The month of November starts today. That means it’s National Native American Heritage Month, National Novel Writing Month, and November 1st is National Authors Day. Sounds like a great time to read a book by a Native American author and to start writing that novel you’ve had brewing in your brain for a while now.

THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED WAS ON A WEDNESDAY IN NEW YORK CITY

Well that brings my sportsball season to an end until March 27, 2025.

118 days until pitchers and catchers report
124 days until first spring training game
159 days until opening day
171 days until Cleveland Guardians home opener

I posted this almost exactly 2 years ago:

“Well, they gave us a season to remember and to be extremely proud of. In April, nobody expected them to be better than a rebuilding .500 team, and yet somehow they won the division and 92 games, swept a best 2 out of 3 playoff series, and pushed those damn Yankees (who only won 7 more games) to a decisive game 5 in a best 3 out of 5 series. I’m proud to say that I’ve been a Cleveland Guardians fan from day 1. Let’s see what next year brings. Go Guardians!”

The specifics for this year are slightly different but not by much.

Thank you again for a wonderful season to remember.

I sure hope Jhonkensy Noel makes the roster next year. I’ll miss David Fry (he’s having Tommy John surgery in the offseason, so he’s out for a whole season). I hope Shane Bieber comes back stronger than ever. Stephen Vogt deserves manager of the year honors.

It was a roller coaster ride, but it sure was a fun season.

Today was a records day, so no students were in school and most of the teachers were working from home, so I planned a vacation day for myself at the beginning of the school year. Since I knew I had a planned vacation day, I decided to get my flu and COVID vaccinations last night in case they made me sick. Well, I’m happy to say I had virtually no reaction to either. The COVID arm is a bit sore, but beyond that and a few chills this morning (nothing a hot shower and layers of clothing couldn’t fix), I felt fine all day. Get vaccinated.

Guardians baseball is NOT for the faint of heart.

That game was thoroughly anxiety inducing, but it was exhilarating! I don’t know how we managed to pull that one out, but we did it! Back the CLE for a game 5 on Saturday. Go Guards!

Just got gas at Sam’s Club for $2.589 a gallon. Damn those Biden/Harris policies supported by Sherrod Brown that keep driving prices up. . . Oh, they’re going down under those policies?

The rule was “no fact checking!”

Today continues Hispanic Heritage Month (through October 15th) and begins National Book Month. Visit your favorite library or bookstore and celebrate with a book, perhaps one written by someone of Hispanic heritage.

It also begins LGBT History month, not to be confused with LGBTQIA+ Pride Month (June of every year). Now is a good time to learn about LGBT (and QIA+) people and events throughout history. It didn’t start with Stonewall, and it shouldn’t end there, either.

Today is also World Vexillology Day. That’s the study of flags. Get yourself over to my favorite flag peddler, Flags for Good (https://flagsforgood.com/?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAACVrgy51kpDYyYbs-TKtX28iSDRFk&gclid=Cj0KCQjwu-63BhC9ARIsAMMTLXT-N60FhqWxf_nRmLphNFOmrispw98x0IirFi_NBDXhB1dwE-y11zwaAlIuEALw_wcB) and get yourself some flags, maybe a Progress Pride Flag for LGBT history month.

We only make good flags for good causes and donate a portion of each to matching organizations. Find LGBTQ+ pride flags, progressive activism flags, state and city flags, and more. We believe a flag can change the world, and we are trying to do just that.

I have missed my self-imposed deadline for publication of the “Words Not Weapons” anthology. The number of submissions was overwhelming for a one-person operation such as Simple Simons Press, and my family and I have been going through a lot lately, including my wife’s 98-year-old grandmother whose decline from living alone in her home to living in a nursing home to being admitted to hospice and then palliative care and eventually passing away this last week went rapidly during the last 6 months and took an emotional toll high enough to make reading submissions difficult. However, I do promise to make this anthology happen because what I’ve read so far is amazing. I will notify those being included once it happens and send them all a galley copy for final approval before I go to press with it. Thank you all for your patience.

So, I missed this yesterday, but I realized why I did. There’s a discrepancy in the lyrics. The stage version says it happened on September 21st, whereas the movie version says September 23rd. Well, anyway, don’t buy any strange or interesting plants this weekend.

Today is the United Nations International Day of Peace. Who will you make peace with and how will you promote peace?

With last night’s walk-off win over the Twins, the Guardians’ magic number for wining the AL Central Division is now 4. To clinch a wildcard spot the magic number is now 2.
