Have you ever asked the question What’s the difference between Jack Daniel’s and Johnnie Walker?

Well today I am going to answer that question.

Let’s start off by clearing up any confusions you may have about whiskeys. Jack Daniel’s, Johnnie Walker and Jim Beam are all categorized as whiskeys because they all share the same classifications, they are made from grain mashes and they are aged in oak barrels. The main difference is the type of grain used hence the different type of whiskeys.

Jack Daniel’s (Tennessee “Bourdon” Whiskey)

Tennessee Whiskey is a type of Bourbon Whiskey that follows U.S. Regulations which states that all Bourbon must be made from at least 51% corn mash. So Jack Daniel’s is a bourdon and it gets its name Tennessee Whiskey because you guessed it, it’s made in Tennessee. That’s not the only difference, the other is that it must go through a process called the Lincoln County Process which regular Bourdon does not. In this process the whiskey is filtered through charcoal chips before being placed to age. So if you ever drank Jack Daniel’s this explains the smokey taste.

Johnnie Walker (Scotch Whiskey)

Scotch whiskey is a name given to whiskeys only made in Scotland. Unlike Bourbon which main ingredient is corn mash, Scotch is made from malted barley. There are five different categories of Scotch whiskeys: single malt, single grain, blended malt, blended grain and blended Scotch whiskey.
Johnnie Walker is categorized as a blended malt whiskey meaning the contents in the bottle comes from a combination of various barrels.

Jim Beam (Bourbon Whiskey)

Bourbon Whiskey is a whiskey that must be made in the USA. According to U.S. Regulations for a whiskey to be called Bourbon whiskey it must be made from at least 51% corn mash.

So hopefully now you have a better understand on what separates each brand from the other

Carib BLUE Review

To some at first taste Carib Blue is no different than the original Carib. Well to be fair it is a variation of Carib so I can’t blame them. But when you get halfway through the beer you start to taste the differences. We’ll talk about those differences bit later.

First some facts about Carib BLUE. It is an ultra premium lager beer with 6.0% alcohol volume. It is a pale lager just like Carib but its appearance is slightly darker. The taste comes from malt and hops.

Now the question I hear a lot is what makes a beer an ultra premium beer. Well it is simply down to the quality of the ingredients used. For a beer to be called ‘ultra premium’ it needs to be made of the highest quality ingredients. So we have to take Carib Brewery’s word for it that they are using the highest of quality malt and hops.

Finally Let’s talk about the differences. The first notable difference is the taste, Carib has the perfect balance of sweet from malt and bitter from hops and Carib Blue carries that same balance but the sweetness from the malt and bitterness from the hops is amplified to give you a stronger taste. The second difference is the smoothness of Carib Blue. The carbonation is toned down a bit to give you a more soothing taste where it is not to over-carbonated and not to flat.

Balance seems to be the key method in Carib Blue. Overall it is an exquisite beer with just the right balance in taste and smoothnesses

Happy National Rum Day!! Rum has been around for centuries and it all started in the Caribbean back when the European powers had sugar plantations. Rum is created using molasses that is left over from the refining and crystallization of sugar. It is fermented and distilled and then aged in oak barrels. There are four types of rums; light rum which is filtered after aging to remove the color. Dark rum which is aged the longest and therefore is darker and stronger. Gold rum which is amber in color isn’t aged as long as dark rum. Finally flavored rum which is light rum just with added flavor like coconut.
