It is time to go to Ticino! 🇨🇭🌴⛰️

With the start of September, travelling within Switzerland has gotten a bit easier again! After a year of repairs and closures following an accident in the summer of 2023, trains now run through the Gotthard tunnel again. You can now reach the canton of Ticino and the cities of Lugano and Locarno in under 2 hours again from Zurich and Lucerne! 🚂

Here are some of the many things to do in this underrated region of Switzerland!

1 & 2 : Take a cruise on Lago di Lugano and awe at the beautiful nature all around. Discover the lovely village of Gandria and hop over to the other side of the lake to explore the Swiss customs museum, right on the border of Switzerland🇨🇭and Italy 🇮🇹. Grab a drink or a bite in one of the grottos on that side of the lake.

3. Take the funicular (or hike!) up to Monte San Salvatore for an amazing view over Lugano and the Ticinese mountains.

4/5. Explore the city of Locarno on Lago Maggiore. Lovely shops, bars and small alleys and palm trees everywhere! Take the funicular up to enjoy the views up from Madonna del Sasso, a popular Pilgrimage destination.

6/7. Make your way not only to the colorful lakefront of Ascona, but also do not skip the boat to Isole di Brissago. On one of these two islands in Lago Maggiore, you find a breathtakingly beautiful botanical garden for you to explore. If you sleep in the hotel on the island, you have it all to yourself after the last boat of the day departs. 🌺🪷🌵🎋

What an amazing summer day it was in Lucerne today!

📌All of the pictures were taken on a walk from Lucerne central station all the way to Meggenhorn. The walk takes about an hour and a half, which some stairs up towards the end. Don’t follow Google Maps walking instructions, just stay close to the beautiful lake all along the route and follow the ’wanderweg’ signs towards the end.

First pictures of our stay last week in the breathtaking Derborence valley in canton Valais/Wallis. It was hard to grasp that such grotesque, untouched wilderness can be find at just one hour from Sion.

We stayed in a small community of only 7 chalets, dotted around a majestic blue lake with the Diablerets mountain range as a constant backdrop ⛰️♥️

On our first day, we explored the lake, enjoyed the winding mountain trails and had a look at the Godey dam overlooking the valley. This trip reminded me that Switzerland is so much more than all the tourist hotspots you see on Instagram 🇨🇭♥️

Yesterday before making a hike at Bannalpsee in canton Nidwalden, we shared the train with many, many tourists heading towards Titlis. Don't get me wrong, Titlis is an experience, but it's overdrowded and expensive. Bannalpsee on the other hand, was calm with only locals. Dare to get off the beaten tourist path!

📍 Bannalpsee - a beautiful artificial lake with dramatic backdrops. From Wolfenschiessen train station (20 minutes from Lucerne), take bus B331 to Fell/ Talstation LFCH (end stop, 15 minutes). From there, you take one of the two tiny cable cars up (to Chreuzhütte or Bannalpsee) and enjoy this amazing place. Lot's of hiking opportunities, or just calm walks. The funicular tickets are only CHF 26 return too!

We hiked down to Grafenort from Bannalpsee instead, a (sometimes steep!) enjoyable 2.5 hour hike.

Many people visiting Lucerne only quickly make their way to the top of Mount Pilatus before going to the next ’hotspot’, but Pilatus is so much more than just the views from the peak!
📍Get off at Krienseregg as well and hike through farmlands and forests, all the while having amazing views ♥️

The hike from Krienseregg back down to Kriens is not too advanced and will only take you about an hour. Unless you stop at one of the local restaurants of course! 🤩

What a lovely discovery Winterthur was! This city a mere 20 minutes by train from Zurich is a perfect place to discover this summer! Some tips:

🛍️ Winterthur has loads of small boutiques focussed on interior design to explore.
🍹 The Oberer/Unterer Graben is a lovely tree-lined street with bars, cafes and restaurant to enjoy while sitting in the evening sun.
🏭 Discover the old industrial Sulzer Area, now a place for museums, sports, a brewery and art!
🌳 Enjoy nature in the Stadtgarten or Vögelipark. The latter also has a small aviary to explore.

Looking for inside plans with kids? Winterthur is home to the largest science museum of Switzerland, !

As the temperatures are rising in Switzerland, the hiking season is truly gaining momentum. One of my favorite hikes so far is the ’Walenpfad’ hike between Bannalpsee by Wolfenschiessen and the Brunni-Engelberg area.

Most people start at Bruni and make their way to the amazing Bannalpsee lake, but we really enjoyed doing it the other way around. The best thing? This hike is just about 45 minutes from Lucerne by public transport. Happy hiking! 🇨🇭♥️

Calm morning walks in Lucerne, without the crowds ✨

Tourist season has definitely started in Lucerne, making it sometimes a bit too packed in town. While I like the bustling feeling of people from all over the world visiting our lovely city, the best moments are experienced in the morning. Strolling through the old town while the hotels and their guests are still sleeping 💤

The sun is back in large parts of Switzerland this weekend after a week of rain and snow. The perfect day to be out and about in Lucerne!

Tip: 📍 Take a long walk along the lake all the way towards the Lido Beach House. You’ll have amazing views, encounter lovely flowerbeds and as a reward, enjoy a drink or brunch while overlooking the Vierwaldstättersee and Mount Pilatus 🏔️🇨🇭

Had an amazing day of skiing last week at the resort. With fresh snow, slopes in top condition and no crowds, this ski destination has quickly become one of my favorite ones in Switzerland. The sun definitely helped too! 🇨🇭☀️

📍 Melchsee- Frutt, a ski resort with slopes for all levels (the black ones from Bonistock are 🔥) and acceptable rates. Also, it only takes an hour from Lucerne by train until you are on the slopes!

Looking for a café or restaurant with amazing views in Lausanne? 🇨🇭

📍 Brasserie de be Montbenon is a beautiful venue in the Montbenon park, not far from Lausanne Flon. Here, you can grab lunch, dinner or a coffee with some sweet treats.
They have an amazing sundeck for sunny and warm days, but the interior is lovely too to spend some time. If you are lucky like we were, it is also the perfect spot to admire the sunset over Lac Léman.
