A Kano Chief Magistrate Court has conceded bail to an instructor standing preliminary trial over supposed lewd behavior towards his female student.

The 36-year-old lecturer, Ali Shehu, was granted N200,000 bail with two solid sureties in like source by Chief Magistrate Muhammad Idris.

He said one of the sureties must be a Senior Lecturer of Kano State college of Technology and the second will be the town head of where the accused individual lives.

“Both the accused lecturer and sureties will store two recent passport photos,” he ordered on Tuesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reviewed that the court had before fixed October 15, for condemning after the charged conceded, yet during Tuesday’s hearing, his lawyer pushed for a new preliminary.

The lawyer, Mr Abdullahi Ibrahim, told the court that when his accused client was first summoned on Oct. 8, he conceded the substance of the First Information Report without fully understanding it.

“We humbly apply that the content of the FIR to be read and explained to the accused person again to give his plea in line with section 36 of the Constitution of Nigeria for fair hearing,’’ Ibrahim said.

At the point when the supplication of the denounced was again taken, he argued not guilty, and his lawyer asked the court to give him bail.

“Whenever conceded bail, he won’t bounce bail nor will he commit another offense and he is prepared to follow the court request.”

Shehu, a lecturer of Kano State School of Technology, is confronting trial on a two-count charge of break of legitimate trust and attempt to commit an offence, in contrast to Sections 95 and 98 of the Penal Code.

The Prosecutor, ASP Badamasi Gawuna, had prior told the court that the charged committed the offense on August 19, in Kano.

He said that on a similar date at about 11.00 a.m., the accused, took one of his female student (name retained) to Ummi Plaza in Kano, to enable him to check his student’s final examination scripts.

“In the process, the accused admitted to touching the said victim’s private part,’’ the prosecutor said.
