The Children of Children’s Home of Hope, Maduravoyal, Chennai , India wishing our beloved Dr. VGP a most blessed birthday. Dr VGP’s mother late Mrs Lily Prabhakar founded this orphanage to integrate Leprosy patients children with normal children to prevent the spread of leprosy in 1967 and this Home was built in 1971 in Maduravoyal, Chennai and has educated, got jobs and settled hundreds of kids over the years .
Currently about 80-100 children are in the Home. Dr VGP is closely associated with the Children’s Home of Hope throughout the last 50 years to present.
Dr. VGP founded Madras Youth Association in 1974 which later became Tamilnadu Youth Association that was a forerunner for Community service for nearly a decade in TamilNadu. Several of his college mates at Loyola College 1973-74, Presidency college 1974-75 and Madras Medical College 1975-1982 have consistently visited the Home and encouraged the children through various initiatives.
In 1981, Dr. VGP organised a most successful fund raising initiative,” Winter Carnival “ in Bains School, Kilpauk Chennai and raised nearly two lakhs Indian Rupees for the Children’s Home of Hope in a stupendous organizing effort of roping in the IAS officers wives, IPS officers wives and the Army Officers . In 1983, Dr. VGP came to USA for higher studies in Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
Recently in 2013, Dr VGP’s elder sister Indrani Sivaram and her husband N. Sivaram along with the Children’s Home of Hope Executive Committee raised nearly 4 Crores INR to rebuilt the Home to a State of art facility with a capacity to house 150 Children.
Founder Mrs Lily Prabhakar named the Primary Nursey School Grade 1 to Grade 5 at the Home after Dr. VGP’s daughter Tanya , her only granddaughter .
Service and leadership is a quality that Dr. VGP has inherited from his early school days.

Rev Jesse L Jackson met Vincent Chin’s mother in the same Portsmouth Square, San Francisco in 1984, to express his solidarity.
Vincent Chin case serves as a wake up call to address anti Asian bias and racial intolerance today. Recently in Atlanta , Asian American hate violence reared it’s ugly head . All of us Asian Americans must unite to stop this hate violence against us.
President Biden has made Anti Asian American hate violence a priority in his administration. Recently a study revealed one out of two Indian Americans experienced some form of discrimination in USA over the course of a 12 month period.
