In case you're wondering why California is a tinder box and its hydrants are running dry, it's not just about climate change, it's about unbelievable corruption and greed.
The Sate of California built the Kern Water Bank, using taxpayer money. The 32 square mile facility stores enough water in one year to supply a city the size of San Francisco for the next ten.
But an agreement, signed in secret, gave ownership and control to a few private water companies. It was signed without any input from voters, taxpayers, or legislators. Two billionaires, Stewart and Lynda Resnick, now own 57% of it. The Resnicks use 150 billion gallons of water a year on their farms, while the taps in the town they built for their workers run dry.
