Here's a little information about me. I graduated with a Bachelor's in History from Kennesaw State University. I admittedly hated the subject of History in high school. However, life has a funny way of changing your perspective. One of the general education requirements was a history course that showed me a different side of the discipline that I never imagined I would like, let alone love. One that depended on research, factual evidence, analysis, and interpretation. There was so much more than the small world of dates and names I'd had in high school. History is so much more than the cut and dry facts of what happened, and realizing all of that changed everything. After learning how to be brave and bold with my own life, I changed my major from Accounting to History. The difference in my life, in my own happiness, was indescribable. Every professor and teacher I had left an impact on me. Some small, some valuable beyond measure. If I could I would list them all to thank them because they pushed me to be better. If you're out there listening, please reach out and let me know! Now as I mentioned, I graduated and I was in the middle of my job search. Then Covid-19 came along and everything was shut down. Job listings vanished, I got e-mails from some letting me know they'd suspended all hiring, and everything came to a halt. Early on I wrote a letter to someone who, for now, will remain anonymous. She wrote back and she was the one who suggested I make a podcast. I mulled it over for a few weeks and gathered input, and then I got to work. I started pulling out books I'd saved from college, primary and secondary sources. I pooled all the resources already at hand and everything I knew about research. The idea to focus on themes came to me when I remembered noticing them during college when my class schedule always had classes from different times and places. And so, Yesterday Meets Today: Themes Throughout History was born! Now I'm putting my love of history and research to work, taking what I've already learned and adding to it as I craft each episode. Now I'm starting this journey that I don't consider to be mine or yours, but ours collectively. I'm putting these episodes together for you to hopefully learn something new and interesting from based on the information I gather, and in doing so I'm learning new things as well. Everything I present is accurate to my knowledge, but the great thing about historical research is that you never know what you'll find next! So I hope you'll stay on this journey with me as we explore new themes each month!
