Ethnicity; Rakhine and Muslim student groups issue joint statement to watch out for religious clashes
Western News: December 24
In Rakhine State, in December, The Rakhine Students' Union (RUSU) and the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) have called on the Rakhine people to remain vigilant in the face of acts of sectarian violence. The Muslim Students Union and the Rakhine Students Union (University-Yangon) issued a joint statement on December 23.
The statement said that in December, The statement said the military council's ICJ coincided with the timing of the trial, which saw a spate of suspected crimes that had led to sectarian violence.
In Rakhine and Rakhine states, in 2012 and 2017, sectarian violence erupted and millions of people were affected by the conflict.
In addition to the current struggle for Rakhine people's liberation, while building a community that is harmonious with the security of the people and moving towards a new state, dubious vandalism in Rakhine State is an obstacle to the construction of Rakhine State, and the Rakhine people should remain vigilant in their actions.
In Rakhine State, a series of extraordinary events have taken place since the beginning of December. Ko Phone Pyae Phyo, chairman of the Arakan State Students' Union, told Western News that the statement was issued because it could lead to religious extremism and obstruct the current course of travel in Rakhine State.
“Since the beginning of December 2021, significant developments have taken place in Rakhine State. Experts also consider this extraordinary event. According to the military, the incident took place near different ethnic groups. These can lead to misunderstandings and ethnic conflicts. These are actions that can lead to religious conflicts. In Rakhine State, we suffered from ethnic conflicts in 2012 and 2017, and these issues are still unresolved. In addition, if this happens, the current routes that the Rakhine people want to take can be an obstacle. "And we are giving advice from somewhere to prevent problems, which we believe could lead to blood feuds and worsening the situation."
Zaw Min Tun, a Muslim student, told Western News that the joint statement was issued to prevent sectarian conflict in Rakhine State, which is lagging behind in development and does not benefit one ethnic group.
“We do not want trouble in Rakhine State. If there is a problem, what race? It is not good for any religion. We have to issue a joint statement to the people to be vigilant and refrain from such racism and bigotry. If we see any signs of religious conflict, we need to cooperate with them. From 2012 to the present, there has been little reconciliation between the two ethnic groups. It is not complete yet. As a result, Rakhine State has become known as a dangerous zone in the world. Everything lags behind, including our development. If it happens again, it will be even more backward and the people living in Rakhine State will be considered as barbaric and there is nothing good about it, ”he said.
The Rakhine National League (ULA) issued a statement on December 17 urging the Rakhine people to be careful as Maungdaw, which is experiencing extraordinary events in December in Rakhine State, could lead to sectarian violence.
