📺 NEW VIDEO 📺

The last part of our interview with German neurobiologist Björn Brembs is out! We talked about scientific prestige of high impact journals which were linked to numerous scandals with retracted scientific papers (like Andrew Wakefield’s article about MMR vaccine and development of autism published in the Lancet). This fake news in science communication are doing a real harm to our science and society. Despite the fact that Wakefield’s paper was found to be flawed and had numerous conflicts of interests, it is still being referenced by anti-vaxxer movement. Do we need these journals? Björn explained how he sees the future of research where text, data and code are openly accessible on the infrastructure which is reliable, affordable and sustainable.

Happy Monday, guys! We had finished editing the third episode of our interview with Björn Brembs. He explains about traditional scientific publishing in commercial journals and about difference between a scientific article and a news paper article. We also talked about the anonymity of peer review and scientists' mentality to use a free and open alternative scientific communication platform ArXiv but to be published in journals for the additional lines in their CV for career promotion. This lines cost university libraries millions of euros in journal subscription fees. Also featuring African animals and their dung 💩

TOTAL MUST WATCH! How to make a huge amount of money on scientific publishing? What is a link between scientific journal publishing houses and Jeffrey Epstein's scandal? And how our guest, German neurobiologist Björn Brembs, together with his colleagues tried to fight against these businesses that monopolised scientific communication market? These and other questions will be discussed in the second part of our interview with Björn. Please, like this video and share among your colleagues, friends and family! We all should know how our taxes are spent!

Y A Y! Our second episode is available to watch right now! We invited to the interview German neurobiologist Björn Brembs. In this first part (from four) we discussed his scientific background in neurogenetics and research on the fruit fly and snail behaviour. Björn also told us about his way to the Open Science movement. Upon the development of his academic career he realised that there is no digital infrastructure using which he can store his results, data, code and share with other scientists. In addition, he found that the current academic publishing process is fully controlled by the commercial companies. For him Open Science means not only the openness in sharing information, it means the creation of a tool that needs to be used correctly in order to make scientific findings available for everyone.

IT IS OUT TODAY!

Our first introduction video is dedicated to the problem of peer review process in scientific communication. In the view of recent scandals with articles retraction from prestigious journals such as hydroxychloroquine study from the Lancet journal, we must overview the need of peer review in the current scholarly publishing system. What is a peer review and why does it prevent our scientific progress and citizens participation in it? What is Open science and Open peer review? And why do we need to transform our science to be open?

To answer these questions, we invited to the interview Matheus Pereira Lobo, Brazilian physicist and mathematician, professor at the Federal University of Tocantins, co-editor of the Open Journal of Mathematics and Physics. He shares his thoughts about peer review process and tells about the alternative, his Open Journal of Mathematics and Physics which welcomes collaboration not only with his colleagues but with the broad public.

Please, share this video among your colleagues and friends, let the world know about Open Science and its benefits!
