Do you have a hard time saying “no” and setting boundaries with people in your life and your work even though you know it would benefit you to?

Setting boundaries with other people can be a hard process.

First, it requires us to turn inward and get in touch with ourselves and ask honestly what it is that we truly need and what isn’t currently working in our lives.

Then, it takes building self-confidence and self-belief to communicate our boundaries with others in a respectful and effective way, and make it clear that they are not up for negotiation.

If setting boundaries has been a hard process for you in the past, or you know it’s something that is starting to become necessary for you in your life, these journal prompts, these journal prompts from certified therapist Minaa B. will help you get in touch with the boundaries that you need to set in your life and with others in order to care for yourself and your needs.

We also recommend that you listen to ’s talk with : “The Sacredness of Saying No” from Season Two, Episode 2.

This episode from The Next Right Step Series is all about getting in touch with ourselves and our needs in order to set healthy boundaries that support our physical and psychological wellness and can help us begin to build momentum in our lives.

There's many ways that we can spot burnout, but one of the first warning signs is apathy. ⁣

Have you felt dread, anxiety or annoyance going into a job you once loved? Chances are, you're either burning out, or are burnt out already.

When we're heading into work feeling depleted, it means that your cup is empty and you don't have much left to give. ⁣

When we begin to see these warning signs of burnout such as: apathy and lacking enthusiasm and productivity, the first step we can take to feeling well again is to stop, rest, and fill our cups.

How can we give to others if we're not giving to ourselves?⁣ 🙋🏽‍♀️

Often, when we feel unsupported, it's a signal that we are not supporting ourselves. Our habits and self-care begin to slip, and we begin to show up in the world not feeling and embodying our best selves. ⁣

It's important to take time to rest, re-charge and fill our cups to get back into flow.

This week, we are taking a break from releasing a new episode for some much needed self-care.

But, if you want to hear more about the topic of burnout and the steps and boundaries you can set in place to prevent it, you can look back at our episodes at the link in bio and listen to Lesson 33: Preventing Burnout with Boundaries on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. ✨🎧

Did you know that connecting to your identity, culture, ancestry and heritage can actually help you make the impact that you want to make in the world? 🙋🏽‍♀️✨

Many of us BIPOC folks, myself included, grew up with societal messages that we should hide these parts of ourselves and assimilate as much as possible in order to “succeed” and create impact.

As I have grown up and learned to root into my identity and culture, I have realized more and more that the opposite is true.

I believe that we were born into our identities, cultures, and ancestral lineages for a reason.

Embracing these important parts of ourselves can actually help connect us to our purpose, and make the impact that we want to make in this world.

If you want to root further into yourself and your identity to make a lasting change in your life and the lives of others, my 6 week program The Next Right Step might be for you.

If you are on the cusp of something exciting and new in your life that you’ve been wanting to make a reality for a long time now, sometimes it helps to remind yourself that you don’t always have to prepare for the worst.

While it’s good to be proactive and prepare for unexpected outcomes, it’s equally as important for us to work against the self-doubt that can creep up when something that we’ve wanted for so long is coming up.

You deserve to prepare for success, and to welcome goodness into your life, whatever that mat look like for you. ✨

29/05/2021

I’ve had to redefine my relationship to work, and change my work habits many times throughout my career -- I can so easily get sucked into overwork and an unrelenting, unsustainable pace. I think that was true for so many of us last year as we were all just trying to survive and make life and work function.

After a season of heavy work, I made a commitment to myself that in the year ahead I wouldn’t sacrifice my health habits (specifically working out and eating well) for work. I was firm in my convictions, and now almost five months later, I’m proud to say it’s stuck.

My health has become an anchor in my life again. Last year was a season of the ‘hustle’ as we built and launched two new programs. But this year, I decided it was time to work differently, and smarter. To anchor into the habits I knew would help me cultivate more contentment, peace, time with my husband, and time for joy.

That’s the beautiful thing about life and how we work and change -- we can decide at any given moment to take the reins and change direction.

We can decide to fully embody the life we know we deserve, and not get too overwhelmed or stuck when we might occasionally regress.

Did your own definition of success look different than what other people expected of you?

Mine did. And having the courage to follow the path that I wanted for myself despite what others expected of me was hard, but completely worth it in the end.

Over the years, I’ve learned that as life hands us new lessons, obstacles, and opportunities for growth, our relationship to work and “success” can change drastically, and that’s completely okay.

Through my experience with burnout and running my own business, I learned that I needed to build a healthier relationship to work and what I viewed as success.

I learned that we have to be thoughtful and mindful when it comes to the ways that we’re distracting ourselves and continuing sometimes harmful relationships to overwork, pushing ourselves, and “hustling”.

It’s made me wonder: What would it look like to prioritize being well in mind, body, and spirit in a world that is moving faster day after day and gives us the urge to “keep up”, while still continuing to chase our dreams?

Deepica Mutyala and I dive deep into these questions in this week’s episode from The Next Right Step Series: “How to redefine your relationship to work and success with “ ✨

We all have learned so much about ourselves in the past year with all of the massive changes that have been happening in our world.

As we start entering post-pandemic life, you’ve probably started thinking about the changes that you want to make in your life, and the kind of lifestyle that you want to lead moving forward. “To be at home in my body is to be home in the world.” -

As a part of our conversation series from “The Next Right Step”, last week we shared a touching conversation that had with Valarie Kaur about embracing one’s identity, and connecting to one’s ancestry and lineage to make impact in the world.

In this episode, Valarie shared with us the inspiring story of how she began to root into her identity as a Sikh activist, and the role that love and forgiveness played in the process.

She also shared some incredible advice and wisdom on how we can all begin to root and connect to our identities, and use love as a way to make change in the world.

It’s safe to say that this past year has been a transformative experience for many of us 🙏🏼

Spending a large portion of the year in self-isolation and at home, we have each learned so much about ourselves, our values, what we are willing to stand up for, and what we will not tolerate.

We have also learned from experience about the need for boundaries between our personal life and work/labour, as well as in our relationships.

Needless to say, the past year has been full of lessons for us, and has caused us to make major changes in our lives.

While we continue to wait for vaccination rates to increase and for it to be safe to incorporate some aspects of our old daily lives back into our lives again, we all have a great opportunity right now to reflect on the life that we want to lead once our daily routines begin to change once again.

If the question of what life will look like for you in the future has been on your mind lately, you can use these questions to begin to reflect on your learning experience over the past year, and what lessons you want to carry over with you into the future, and the “new normal”.

If you’re ready to take the next step and head into the future feeling more grounded, supported, and connected to your needs, boundaries and goals, join the waitlist for the June cohort of The Next Right Step Program at the link in bio ✨👏🏼

18/05/2021

For most of my life I was taught to suppress my anger and rage.

I wasn’t shown healthy ways to process this emotion I felt, and was often told it was unwelcome and harmful.

As I got older, I realized that my rage was actually a guide towards what I most cared about, and a barometer for what I was willing to tolerate.

When I learned to embrace my rage and learned how to express it in useful ways -- in my work and activism, or in a healthy, empathetic conversation where it could be named and not weaponized -- rage became a tool for my greatest expression.

Let yourself feel your rage.

Let yourself emote it and express it in a healthy way.

Find ways to connect to your people to support yourself through the expression of it.

Lean into love and kindness to yourself and others.

- Komal Minhas ✨

These journal prompts are inspired by our most recent episode “How To Embrace Your Rage”, where I shared a deeply touching conversation I had with

Valarie Kaur is a civil rights lawyer and activist, woman warrior, and leader of the Revolutionary Love Project.

In this episode, from The Next Right Step Series, we learn about finding strength and guidance from your ancestors and how to honor your identity even when you are feeling othered.

We also explore the differences between empathy and feeling; between forgiveness and reconciliation; and between love and rage.
