Abu Dhabi Airports is launching the “biometric smart travel” project to automate passenger registration at Zayed International Airport that will eliminate the need for travel documents and significantly cut processing time.

Abu Dhabi Airports is partnering with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security to roll out the new system that will enhance the passenger travel experience, Abu Dhabi Media office said in a post on X on Sunday.

Data from the ICP will be used to automatically authenticate travellers with the help of biometric technology, eliminating the need for prior registration for departing passengers.

"The Biometric Smart Travel project reduces the time to serve travellers from 25 seconds to just seven seconds, integrating ticket and travel document verification into a single process and alleviating the burden on human resources by relying on smart gates for identity verification,” Saeed Al Khaili, director general at the ICP, said.

The project will be rolled out in three phases in collaboration with Next 50, which specialises in AI-based transportation solutions.

Wizz Air to cut cost of flights to Dubai by 75%

Flight prices between the UK and the Middle East could be slashed to a quarter of current levels once Wizz Air receives new aircraft, the airline has claimed.

Marion Geoffroy, UK managing director of Wizz Air, predicted the Airbus A321XLR planes will “revolutionise” air travel from a cost perspective.

The enhanced fuel capacity of the jets means they will have a maximum range of up to 11 hours flying time and burn up to 30% less fuel per seat than previous generation aircraft, according to Airbus.

Wizz Air has 47 of the planes on order and expects to begin receiving them from February next year.

Ms Geoffroy said she hopes this will enable Wizz Air to launch new routes between the UK and Middle East countries already served by the airline from continental Europe, such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

She told the PA news agency: “We will be looking at connecting the UK with the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region, the Middle East, where we have a strong brand already and where we do have a sister airline, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.

“This is a very important region for us. From the UK that would definitely be a potential network that we would explore, because it makes a lot of sense to be connecting places where we do have a brand, we do have a presence, we do have customers.

“We would be offering a completely different product (from other airlines), a point-to-point product from the UK to the Middle East.

“If you look at the current fares on these routes and the fares that we could offer, it’s a huge reduction.

As Brussels prepares to host its iconic Flower Carpet display, Hotel Amigo, a Rocco Forte hotel, announces Flower Cocktails at Bar Magritte, a new drinks list inspired by the world-famous floral masterpiece. The bi-annual event is a summer tradition in Brussels that sees the Grand Place, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, transformed into a vibrant carpet-like tapestry of colourful blooms from 15th to 18th August.
At Hotel Amigo, just steps away from the Grand Place, the newly opened Bar Magritte, the world’s first bar dedicated to Belgian Surrealist genius René Magritte, has created four innovative cocktails crafted to incorporate the character of surrealism and the impressive Flower Carpet. Available until 31st August, Bar Manager Hassan Guilich has devised each drink to pay homage to this Brussels grand summer tradition through an array of seasonal flavours.

Guests can choose from:

La Vie En Rose: Sparkling with notes of rose and peach - a blushing nod to the romance of a rose garden. Vodka infused with hibiscus, vine peach liqueur, champagne, lemon juice, rose syrup
Purple Haze | Delicately sweet with a hint of sourness and a medley of hues inspired by Japan’s ephemeral sakura blossom. Roku gin, elderflower liqueur, butterfly pea tea, lime juice, passion syrup
Flower Power | Light, fresh, and aromatic. A nutty taste of almond with a South American journey. Cachaça, elderflower, grapefruit juice, lime juice, almond syrup
Garden of Eden (non-alcoholic) | Uplifting notes of yuzu meet sweet matcha and a twist of tarragon - an ethereal breeze on a sunny day. Yuzu gin 0%, apple juice, lemon juice, matcha syrup, egg white, tarragon leaf

Occurring every two years since its inception in 1971, this year marks a significant change in the renowned Brussels Flower Carpet as dahlias take centre stage for the first time, replacing the traditional begonias. The design of the 23rd edition is entrusted to street artist Océane Cornille, signifying a new era for the Flower Carpet

S Hotels and Resorts PCL (SHR), the international hospitality company under Singha Estate PCL (S), is celebrating the global Plastic-Free July movement by introducing innovative holiday experiences focused on sustainability and nature. As environmentally responsible tourism gains momentum, SHR is committed to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable practices.

In Thailand, SHR’s initiatives include the Upcycling Project at Santiburi Koh Samui, where old curtains and cushion cases are repurposed into complimentary bags for guests. This not only reduces waste but also encourages our guests to avoid using plastic bags, providing them with unique, eco-friendly alternatives during their stay. At SAii Phi Phi Island Village, guests participate in Sunday beach cleanups alongside marine biologists, removing trash from the beach and mangrove forest. Held regularly, these communal events successfully removed nearly 12,000 kilograms of marine and coastal waste in 2023. With environmental advocacy being a priority year-round, both resorts also invite guests to explore local biodiversity through regular guided trails on land and water. SAii Koh Samui Choengmon nestled in Hanuman Bay is another SHR property in Thailand that hosts weekly beach and road cleaning sessions, followed by organic refreshments at the resort for the participants.

In the Indian Ocean, fully plastic-free CROSSROADS Maldives has partnered with Maldives’ Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy to jointly maintain the stunning natural landscape where the property hosts eco-tourism classes for guests and local schoolchildren. Additionally, the resort’s popular Junior Marine Biologist programme focuses on the impact of plastic pollution on marine life, with Marine Discovery Centre playing host to rotating exhibitions showcasing coral diversity and emphasising the importance of conservation.

Marriott launches “Beyond Ordinary” Maldives packages, with curated experiences and Bonvoy rewards
Marriott has created a new suite package offering called “Beyond Ordinary”, involving a luxury getaway at one of three of its seven properties in the Maldives, with specially-curated resort experiences, and the opportunity to earn 20,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

The “Beyond Ordinary” package is centered around journeys of discovery and the chance to experience the epitome of opulence at either the The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, or the JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa. Ideal for families or a group of friends traveling together, the package can be explored with a variety of suite and multi-bedroom collections. The packages include a four-night stay at any of these three resorts, with each one offering a slightly different curated offering. Each package comes with the 20,000 bonus Bonvoy points, and must be booked by 17 August, 2024, valid for stays until 30 June, 2025.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, is focused on giving its guests the chance to go beyond the ordinary. Here, guests are welcomed with a traditional Sangu shell blowing upon arrival – an ancient Maldivian tradition. Also harking back to Maldivian history, the dedicated island butler service – named “Aris Meeha”, after the privileged role of the “closest person” right hand held in bygone Maldivian royal households – harks back to royal court traditions. And as the sun sets each day, guests can enjoy one of the brand’s signature Defining Moments with a traditional Bodu Beru drum performance, and a flaming ceremony marking the transition from day to night.

The six Paris districts you should know, from classically French cobbled streets to edgy underground clubs

All eyes are now on the French capital for the 2024 Olympic Games. But when you’re not dashing from the Stade de France to Champ-de-Mars to watch rugby players and wrestlers tussle for gold, which neighbouthoods deserve your time? And more importantly, where should you stay if you’re in town for the Games (or enjoying a Paris city break at any time for that matter)?

The best way to get your head around the layout of Paris’s 20 central arrondissements, which looks as illogical as the French counting system, is to think of it as a snail’s shell. How typically French, to structure their capital city like an escargot. The first arrondissement is where you’ll find the Louvre, former home of the French royals, and from here, the spiral goes clockwise and outwards.

Each district has it’s own distinct character and may well appeal to a different type of traveller. Part of the beauty of Paris is that it has a heart and soul away from the main tourist attractions (and from the buzz of the Games). These are the six districts that will help you discover it. https://ow.ly/usRE50SGHlE

The serene beauty of the islands created an idyllic setting, far removed from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

When it’s time for me to break, I really break. And boy did I need one.

This year, as I welcomed a new chapter in my life, I took my birthday as an opportunity for a reset and was determined to start my personal new year on the right foot. Then a vacation, of course. And after narrowing down a few destinations, I decided Turks & Caicos was the perfect destination for this.

As soon as I stepped off the plane in Turks & Caicos (just a short 3 hour flight from Washington D.C.), I felt an immediate sense of calm wash over me. The serene beauty of the islands, the soft, powdery sands of Grace Bay Beach and the mesmerizing turquoise waters created an idyllic setting, far removed from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It felt like the universe had gifted me a slice of paradise for my special day. And where is this dream backdrop, you may wonder?
