1st January 2025 marked the 60th anniversary of the iconic red Air Canada rondelle, a symbol as uniquely Canadian as the airline itself.
Born as Trans-Canada Air Lines in 1937, the Crown-corporation embarked on a new chapter on January 1, 1965. The name “Air Canada” was chosen to reflect the airline’s evolving identity: a bilingual carrier connecting Canadians and the world.

This new era demanded a new visual identity. The task fell to Stewart, Morrison and Roberts, a leading Canadian brand consultancy. Creative director Hans Kleefeld, a visionary behind other global brands, spearheaded the design process.

The airline explored several concepts, but it was the stylized Maple Leaf, elegantly encircled, that captured the essence of Air Canada. This distinctive symbol was first unveiled in October 1964. The national carrier has modernized the logo twice, in 1993 and again in 2004, while still retaining its core identity.

Michael Rousseau, President and CEO of Air Canada spoke on the proud occasion for the airline. “The rondelle evokes a sense of home for Canadians, wherever they may be,” he explained. “We are immensely proud of this enduring symbol and the responsibility it carries to represent our country on a global stage.”

The Bahamas is rolling out the welcome mat for travelers seeking a refreshing start to the new year. With extended public holidays and a variety of attractions, from pristine beaches to exhilarating events, The Bahamas is inviting both new and returning visitors to experience its unique charm. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments, and Aviation has unveiled a series of new routes, events, and special offers for January and beyond, making it an ideal time for vacationers to escape to paradise.

New Routes and Increased Access to The Bahamas

Delta Airlines has relaunched its seasonal nonstop flight from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) to Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau, providing travelers from the Great Lakes region with a convenient direct connection to The Bahamas. This weekly flight, running through April 12, 2025, is the only nonstop service between Detroit and Nassau, making it an appealing option for those looking to escape the cold and indulge in tropical warmth.

The return of this route is part of a larger trend of expanding access to the islands. As international travel ramps up in 2025, travelers from across the U.S. are now able to more easily enjoy the beauty, culture, and adventure The Bahamas offers.

Vibrant Events and Cultural Celebrations

One of the biggest cultural events of the year is the Junkanoo Festival, a colorful and vibrant celebration of Bahamian culture, taking place on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Known as “The Greatest Show on Earth,” Junkanoo celebrates the strength and resilience of the Bahamian people with extravagant parades, mesmerizing costumes, rhythmic music, and exuberant dance. The largest parade occurs on Bay Street in Nassau, but festivities can also be found across the islands, including in Grand Bahama Island, Abaco, and Eleuthera. The New Year’s Day Parade starts at 2:00 AM, attracting visitors from all over the world who are eager to witness this joyful tradition.

For sports fans, January offers the long-awaited Bahamas Bowl, which will take place on January 4, 2025. This college football showdown between the Buffalo Bulls and the Liberty Flames is the longest-running international bowl game in college football history. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN, and fans can pick up free tickets at John Watling’s Distillery. This highly anticipated game draws large crowds and highlights The Bahamas’ growing appeal as a sports tourism destination.

Golfing Excellence: Korn Ferry Tour

The Bahamas is also home to one of the most prestigious golf tournaments of the year. The Korn Ferry Tour will kick off its 2025 season with The Bahamas Golf Classic, scheduled from January 12 to 15 at Atlantis Paradise Island. The event will take place at the Ocean Club Golf Course, designed by Tom Weiskopf, offering a stunning oceanfront backdrop for the competition. Following the Atlantis event, the tour will move to The Abaco Club for The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic from January 19 to 22, 2025. These events are a must-see for golf enthusiasts, and for the first time since 2020, both tournaments will be televised worldwide, giving global audiences a chance to experience the breathtaking landscapes of The Bahamas from the comfort of their homes.

Romance and Relaxation: Bahamas Romance Week

For those looking for a more intimate experience, The Bahamas is launching its first-ever “Bahamas Romance Week” from January 30 to February 3, 2025. In partnership with The Bahamas Bridal Association, this enchanting event will take place at the historic British Colonial Hotel in Nassau, offering curated deals, immersive experiences, and giveaways for couples celebrating love. Whether planning a wedding, honeymoon, or romantic getaway, Romance Week promises a celebration of love in one of the world’s most beautiful and romantic destinations.

Exclusive Promotions and Deals

The Bahamas is also offering several exclusive deals and packages for travelers looking to make the most of their vacation in 2025. For instance, the Grand Lucayan on Grand Bahama Island is offering a Bed & Breakfast Package, allowing guests to enjoy Bahamian specialties like conch fritters and guava duff. Travelers can also take advantage of the “Stay Longer This Winter” deal at Grand Isle Resort & Residences on Great Exuma, which offers a fifth night free with a four-night stay. Breezes Bahamas, known for its all-inclusive accommodations, is preparing for a lively Spring Break 2025 with unlimited food, drinks, and exciting activities like beach volleyball and pool parties.

Recent Awards and Resort Developments

The Bahamas’ tourism industry continues to be recognized for excellence in marketing, design, and innovation. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism recently received multiple awards, including four platinum awards at The Viddy Awards for outstanding video production campaigns. The islands’ growing reputation for world-class travel experiences is further solidified by new developments, including the opening of Montage Cay, a private island resort in the Abacos, slated to open in late 2025. The resort will offer 50 all-suite accommodations, including over-water bungalows, a full-service spa, and luxurious amenities designed with sustainability in mind.

Island Focus: The Berry Islands

Among the many treasures of The Bahamas are the secluded Berry Islands, which remain a hidden gem for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The waters surrounding the islands, particularly Chub Cay, are teeming with marine life, making it a haven for fishermen. The islands also offer a range of outdoor activities such as diving, cliff jumping, and exploring the stunning blue holes. For those seeking relaxation, the pristine Shelling Beach offers the ultimate in solitude, with crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views.

For accommodation, The OSPREY on the Berry Islands offers a perfect escape, providing direct beach access and a rich natural environment for guests to enjoy.

Conclusion: Unbeatable Experiences Await in The Bahamas

02/01/2025

As we say goodbye to a busy 2024 and look forward to the year ahead, there are no signs that the cruise industry is slowing down. The surge of new vessels being added to the global fleet is only set to gather pace, with major new ships on the way for the world’s biggest cruise lines.

CFR highlights five of the biggest new ships set to make their debut this year:

Norwegian Aqua

The first ship of Norwegian Cruise Line’s expanded Prima-Plus class, Norwegian Aqua, is 10 per cent larger than its predecessors. Norwegian has taken advantage of the ship’s extra space to offer a range of new features, including the world’s first-ever hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidercoaster. The ship will also have a new digital sports complex with an interactive LED floor named Glow Court, as well as the most expansive Ocean Boulevard outdoor promenade on a Norwegian ship.

Norwegian Aqua will begin sailing in March 2025 with a transatlantic voyage from Southampton, UK.

“Norwegian Aqua is a true testament of fusing together what represents the future of our brand as the first ship in the Prima-Plus class, and our commitment to pushing the boundaries in guest-first experiences that will make new waves at sea,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Mein Schiff Relax, the first of TUI Cruises’ new InTUItion class, is currently under construction in Monfalcone, Italy, ahead of its expected debut in early 2025. The ship is the first TUI Cruises vessel to be powered by LNG and will introduce a variety of new venues, including a new outdoor zone inspired by the islands of Greece, a Burlesque Bar and a new Asian-Japanese restaurant equipped with digital lighting and projection technology.

“On 9 April 2025, the time will finally come; the first new build of the InTUItion ship class, the Mein Schiff Relax, will be christened in Málaga, Spain,” said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. “We are looking forward to celebrating this unique and spectacular event together with the crew, our guests and, for the first time, with two other ships in the fleet and Robbie Williams, the feel-good ambassador of the Mein Schiff Relax."

The second ship in MSC Cruises World-class, MSC World America is also set to begin sailing in April 2025. The vessel will feature seven distinct districts, including the MSC Yacht Club, Family Aventura, Aqua Deck, Zen Area, the Galleria, the Terraces and the Promenade, each of which will offer a variety of dining and entertainment venues.

A selection of 19 different cabin options will be available onboard, ranging from the World-class exclusive Promenade View cabins to the 150-square-metre Owner’s Suites, which feature a double bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and bathroom complete with a full-size imperial bathtub. There will also be 19 dining venues on offer, including four main restaurants, two buffets, two venues in the MSC Yacht Club and Eataly.

“We’ve invested a lot into tailoring MSC World America to deliver a truly memorable cruise experience, with new restaurants, bars, experiences and spaces,” said Bernhard Stacher, senior vice president of shipboard hospitality operations at MSC Cruises. “With the only Eataly restaurant at sea, a brand-new Greek restaurant Paxos, and MSC Cruises’ first comedy club, The Loft, there’s really a space and experience for every guest.”

Royal Caribbean International will introduce Star of the Seas, the second ship in the Icon class, in August 2025, with a series of seven-day cruises from Port Canaveral in Florida. Star of the Seas will be nearly identical to its predecessor Icon of the Seas, offering the largest waterpark at sea, Category 6, more than 40 dining venues and bars, an ice skating rink and more.

“The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we’ve seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International.

Setting sail at the end of 2025 with an inaugural sailing from Singapore, Disney Adventure will feature a range of firsts for Disney Cruise Line. Three new Disney attractions will appear on the upper decks in an adventure zone celebrating the Marvel Universe, including the longest rollercoaster at sea, the Ironcycle Test Run. Toy Story Place will be a new water play area designed for families with young children, while San Fransokyo Street, inspired by Big Hero 6, will feature the Big Hero Arcade. New stage shows, dining venues and updated accommodation options will also be available onboard.

“As part of our unprecedented expansion for Disney Cruise Line, we are committed to delivering exceptional experiences that bring our special brand of cruising and the best of Disney storytelling to new guests on new shores,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Cruise Line. “When the Disney Adventure sets sail in December 2025, guests throughout Southeast Asia will have the opportunity to experience the magic of their favourite Disney, Pixar and Marvel stories, in their very own backyard.”

Tourism Triumph: Qatar Reaches Five Million Visitors in 2024
Qatar Tourism proudly announces a historic achievement as the country surpasses five million visitors for the year 2024. This milestone marks a remarkable 25% growth in international arrivals compared to 2023, solidifying Qatar’s position as a leading global tourism destination.

HE Chairman of Qatar Tourism, Mr. Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji: “Surpassing five million visitors is a landmark accomplishment for Qatar, bringing us closer to realizing our vision of positioning the country as one of the world’s fastest-growing, family-friendly premier destinations.
