Calling all therapists ☎️

🧘🏽‍♀️Somatic Psychology?! Yoga and Psychology?! I’ve got a dual event to share with you today 🧘🏽‍♀️

Somatic work is a hot topic!

You already know the mind and body are connected, and chances are you’re bringing this wisdom into the therapy room already. However, beyond understanding a bit about the nervous system and the vagus nerve, you might not be entirely clear on how this relates to your client’s interoceptive awareness, emotional experiences and the ability to emotionally regulate.

Off the back of the ANZ ACBS conference, I wanted to offer my Somatic Psychology workshop to those of you interested in how you can harness the innate wisdom of the body in the therapy room.

Somatic therapy is a broad term for body-centred approaches honouring the mind-body connection through integrated psychotherapeutic and physical practices. These exercises are most powerful when adjusted by psychological flexibility skill building, and reflective practices to ensure clients have the awareness and skill to engage effectively in their lives.

In this workshop, you will learn:

🧐 More about the body-centred somatic therapy approaches that honour the mind-body connection through integrated psychotherapeutic and physical practices.

🧐 How the ACT pillars of Awareness, Openness, and Engagement can be interpreted as a therapeutic scaffolding system for the introduction of somatic practices.

🧐 The multidisciplinary science underpinning somatic psychology and the therapeutic importance of enhancing interoceptive awareness.

🧐 Practical practices you can apply to ensure clients have the interoceptive awareness and skill to engage effectively in their lives

The 90-minute LIVE webinar will take place on Monday, April 8th at 6:00 PM AEST (Eastern).
If you cannot attend live, you will be sent a recorded version.

✨AND! Given that we are coming up to a year since I offered a Yoga and Psychology workshop (and since there is heaps of overlap in somatics and yoga), I’m going to offer both workshops together at a discounted rate.✨

The Integrating Yoga and Psychology workshop is specifically for yoga instructors and is designed to help save you the professional and legal confusion I experienced when starting out in this area.

We’ll cover the common questions that I've seen come up in supervision sessions, such as:
🧐 What ratio of yoga to psychoeducation/intervention works?
🧐 How does this fit within the Medicare model?
🧐 What insurance do I need and how does informed consent work?
🧐 How do I manage documentation?

The 90-minute LIVE webinar will take place on Tuesday, April 16th at 6:00 PM AEST (Eastern).
If you cannot attend live, you will be sent a recorded version.

👉🏽https://www.trybooking.com/CITPE you can register for both events via either link

In addition to completing my dissertation in this integrative space, I convene the APS Psychology and Yoga Interest Group, am a Board-Approved supervisor and run group psychological therapy that offers an embodied yoga practice component. I am currently finishing up a book manuscript for PESI Publishing on Somatic Psychology and hold registration as a Senior Yoga Instructor and Meditation Instructor.

Warmly, Kaitlin

The Wisdom for Wellbeing Framework

I work as a clinical psychologist, and enjoy the opportunity to discuss wellbeing with clients, as much as researching and applying it myself! Given the increasing consumption of podcasts and social media, I really wanted to add something to the mix that will serve to both inspire and to support healing, growth and ultimately, personal thriving. Hence, I have created Wellness Wisdom as a platform to discuss topics related to achieving mental health and wellbeing in a holistic manner, with a focus on evidence-based practical strategies.

We are now on Season Two and have episodes covering topics ranging from relationships and evolutionary psychology to nutrition and gut-health. Note #wellbeingwednesday in your calendar, as that is when each new episode will drop. Of course, while you are waiting, head back to the Season One where we cover everything from values and productivity to integrating mindful-movement practices, such as yoga, into your life.
