On our most recent episode of Pick Me Choose Me Podcast Me, we discuss biases in the health care system and advocate for these issues to be addressed.
The first topic we address is addiction and the fair treatment of pain. We must remember that people who suffer from addiction are human beings that are in need of support and aid, not judgement and suffering. Below, we linked a page for Government of Canada that provides links for specific help services regarding addiction.

The second topic we address is gender and racial biases in healthcare. Though the episode does not address these topics specifically, it is currently very relevant and we would be doing a disservice by not addressing it. Currently, protests still continue against systemic racism and police brutality. Yet, systemic racism extends much farther than the police system and has significant impacts in the health care system as well. As Canadians, we sometimes can brush off these issues as American problems and choose not to acknowledge that Canada also has issues with racism, and our indigenous communities, in particular, take the brunt of it. WE CANNOT FIX A PROBLEM IF WE REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM EXISTS. We have a responsible as a country and members of the global community to be aware the of system racism, sexism, and bigotry that are prevalent in our society.
