Writer-director James Gunn has shared Sean Gunn’s first screen test as Weasel for The Su***de Squad. Sean Gunn also plays Kraglin and does the motion capture for Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In The Su***de Squad, the actor followed his brother into the DC Extended Universe to play the Belle Reeve inmate Calendar Man and do the motion capture for Weasel — a strange, anthropomorphic creature who is “harmless” despite having “killed twenty-seven children." Naturally, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) assumes assumes he is a werewolf.

Gunn’s R-rated follow-up to 2016’s Su***de Squad introduces more than a few obscure DC characters to the big screen. Task Force X’s new members include Peacemaker (John Cena), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), T.D.K. (Nathan Fillion), Javelin (Flula Borg), and, of course, Weasel. Many of the team’s new members don’t make it past the film’s title card, however, as Colonel Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman)’s team is massacred at the beginning of the film. Despite appearing to perish immediately due to an inability to swim, Weasel has become of The Su***de Squad's most talked-about characters.

Hocus Pocus is considered by many as the ultimate Halloween movie, and as such, it’s one of the most-watched movies during Halloween season, but what has the cast been up to since Hocus Pocus was released? Disney has explored a variety of genres and styles for decades, most of them with a family-friendly approach as that’s the studios’ target, and in 1993, it brought a story of witches, spells, and more in Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega (who years later would direct the High School Musical trilogy).

Hocus Pocus tells the story of the Sanderson sisters, three witches who in 1693 are executed for their witchcraft practices and the murder of two siblings, Emily and Thackery, though the latter was actually cursed to live as a black cat forever. However, before being killed, the oldest sister, Winifred, manages to cast a spell that will resurrect her and her sisters during a full moon on Halloween when a virgin lights the Black Candle Flame. Centuries later, in 1993, teenager Max inadvertently resurrects the sisters, who start looking for a child to absorb their youth so they can live past Halloween, as the spell only allows them to live for that night and will turn into dust when the sun rises.

Netflix and Howard University are partnering up to create a $5.4 million scholarship in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman. The 43-year-old actor passed away in August 2020 after a long and secretive battle with colon cancer. Best remembered for his performance as King T'Challa in 2016's Black Panther, Boseman continued to film for projects like Netflix's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and Da 5 Bloods despite being sick. His final recorded role is for Marvel's animated series, What If...?, which began airing on Disney+ in August. Boseman lent his voice to nearly half of the first season's episodes, and was honored with a heartfelt tribute at the end of episode 2.

As reported by ET Canada, Netflix and Howard University are joining forces to create a $5.4 million scholarship in the late actor's name. Boseman graduated from the HBCU in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing, and stayed connected to his alma mater throughout his adult life. According to a statement released by the university, The Chadwick A. Boseman Memorial Scholarship will provide incoming College of Fine Arts students with a 4-year, full-ride scholarship. Boseman's wife, Simone, also helped to establish the fund, which will be presented annually to 1 member of each class. Howard University President Wayne A.I. Frederick's full statement can be read below:

“It is with immense pleasure and deep gratitude that we announce the creation of an endowed scholarship in honor of alumnus, Chadwick Boseman, whose life and contributions to the arts continues to inspire,” Howard University President, Wayne A.I. Frederick, M.D, said in Netflix’s press release on the partnership. “This scholarship embodies Chadwick’s love for Howard, his passion for storytelling, and his willingness to support future generations of Howard students. I am thankful for the continuous support and partnership of Chadwick’s wife, Mrs. Simone Ledward-Boseman, and to Netflix for this important gift.”

The MCU has entered Phase 4 in 2021, and many of its movies and shows have spent time fixing mistakes made in Avengers: Age of Ultron. 2015’s Age of Ultron served as the partial conclusion to the MCU’s Phase 2, and though the film was a financial success, it was a somewhat polarizing installment in the Avengers franchise, with many viewers and critics feeling that its choices in characterization and story were questionable. The following films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame had far better reception, leaving Age of Ultron the closest thing the MCU had to an audience failure and the subject of in-universe maintenance for years to come.

For a film franchise that began in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been remarkably well-received. Supervised by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, the MCU films are spiritually faithful adaptations of their Marvel comic source material and simultaneously crowd-pleasing blockbusters. 2012’s The Avengers changed the pop culture landscape almost instantly by proving the marketability and success of comic book-style shared universe crossovers. Since then, the franchise has grown in recognition and prestige, with Black Panther even winning multiple Academy Awards. The MCU has dominated pop culture for years, but not all of its installments are complete successes.

20th Century Studios unveils a new clip from Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel seeing Jodie Comer’s character confronting Matt Damon after realizing she may be burned alive. Scott’s adaptation of Eric Jager’s The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France is based in part on the last sanctioned duel in 14th-century France. It is the first of two films the 83-year old director is releasing this year along with House of Gucci.

The Last Duel follows Norm knight Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon), who challenges his squire, Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), to a trial by combat after his wife, Marguerite (Comer) accuses Le Gris of having r***d her, a charge Le Gris firmly asserts is false. On top of being a fight to the death, if Carrouges loses, Marguerite will be burned at the stake as punishment for her false accusation. The Last Duel was written by Ben Affleck (who also stars as Count Pierre d'Alençon), Damon, and Nicole Holofcener. To properly explore the film’s ideas, Affleck and Damon reportedly wrote the male perspective and Holofcener wrote the female.
