Thanks to everyone who gave me a lot of love and support as I started my podcast journey at the beginning of this year.

Also, I want to express my deep gratitude for all the guests who came to my podcast. Thanks for your kindness and generosity. Because of your support, I published 20 episodes this year! 🎉

The podcast journey has been a humbling and rewarding experience. I truly enjoyed creating content, interviewing people, and adding value to the community. At the same time, I’ve been consuming so much immigration content through developing podcast that weighted on me. Not to mention, my work, my identity, and my personal life revolve so much around immigration.

To me, immigration work is like a double-edged sword: deeply passionate about what I do, fulfilling experiences, and feeling part of a meaningful community. On the other hand, I feel emotionally and mentally drained and burnt out.

As I’m entering 2023, I want to be mindful about my health but also continue to do what I enjoy - interview and produce content as a podcaster.

Excited for what’s to come in 2023, and again, I’m grateful for all your love and support! 🙏🏻

Celebrating successful & ’s first joint gala since MinKwon rejoined the NAKASEC Network!

This gala is a reminder of our history in the mass movement and the teaching of our founders to "know your roots," and also our resolve to build a world that is peaceful and prosperous for everyone.

Deeply honored and humbled to serve as the NAKASEC Board for the past four years and three years as the Board Chair. Excited to what’s to come for the NAKASEC and its affiliates. I’m hopeful 🙏🏻

What is the Adoptee Citizenship Act? The is a critical piece of legislation that needs to pass THIS YEAR! Over 500,000 individuals have been adopted from abroad and brought to the U.S. by American parents – but not all were granted citizenship.

The Adoptee Citizenship Act of 2021 can repair these oversights and help adoptees and their loved ones. Congress: Pass the Adoptee Citizenship Act this year!

Incredibly honored to participate in the and joint convening, in Los Angeles, California. They brought together over 70 of our community members across the country. Throughout the convening, we learned about each community, culture, and perspective; reflected on our past work together and highlighted successes and areas of future growth; Engaged in further honest and transparent dialogue regarding the historic tension between our communities in the United States and globally; Co-created a shared understanding and framework of how Black and Asian American communities can truly be in solidarity and unity.

Such a powerful, inspiring convening!

Exactly one year ago, in the shadow of the Washington Monument, I publicly shaved my head with 60 others in an action with profound historical and cultural significance, demanding action to push for a pathway to citizenship for all.

Escalating further, NAKASEC Action Fund held a weeklong 24-7 vigil. Not only that, I have participated in civil disobedience action in front of the White House.

I, like many others, am tired of empty promises and thwarted expectations. But I remain hopeful, and I hold close my responsibilities to our communities.

Recent DACA announcement is another reminder that DACA is vulnerable, temporary program with limitations. We will continue to fight for justice for undocumented immigrant youth and their families, and organize and push for a pathway to citizenship for all.

I’m a proud dreamer but I’m feelin the pressure
If i count up all my stress i could give you a lecture
Got all eyes on me, but i’m just a victim of twisted history
When am i getting my papers? That sh*t’s always a mystery
My days feel numbered, i feel guilt when i slumber
Cause a wasted day isn’t what i want to remember
Receiving daca is a privilege, a blessing and a curse
I pray for my homies that are in situations way worse
We need a final solution, no more confusion,
All of us know this dream act is an act of illusion
Tired of just retweets and shares whats the conclusion?
We at year 10 for a temporary solution, aka exclusion
I don’t want to settle when they throw me the bone
But i can’t afford to say no, i gotta pay for my home
-i ain’t gotta do this alone,
Matter of fact it’s impossible, so call your rep on the phone

I’m tired of survival mode, the balls in their court they want me to fold
I’m fighting for kids futures cause mine was robbed and now i’m too old
I’m not even sad no more my anger just be makin me bold
For 10 long years i’ve seen people’s hearts callous up from the cold

Got me fighting over paper i feel like i’m playin squid game
I ain’t tryna compete with one another i’m goin insane
I’m on my best behavior but my best is for who
They just want us to behave to suppress me and you
Who can cross the line before they make rules and start shooting
Thought ya’ll welcome the tired and poor, we still human
Who and what is a good or bad immigrant?
Quite evident by our patience we’re all heavensent
Red yellow green, thats been the status between
While we try to adapt and survive in this chaos it seems
Wanted a piece of the pie but they marked up my cookie
Now i’m cuttin my life to shapes feelin hella rookie
With the laws it feels like tug of war and i’m losin my marbles
Can’t plan ahead so i jump instead whether its harmless

Don’t forget young people challenged the status quo and demanded the administration to stop the deportation of undocumented immigrant families. Because of their consistent and courageous actions throughout the years, we won major victories like

Invest in young people and don’t ever underestimate the power of organizing! ✊🏻

23/05/2022

Next week, we have Nicole Solis-Sison as our guest! We covered a wide range of topics, from her work as an artist to love and relationship while being undocumented.

Here’s a sneak peek of Nicole sharing her story when she decided to publicly come out as an undocumented.

“I was definitely still grappling around my identity. I didn't publicize that I was undocumented, formerly undocumented or documented. I was always scared to share that.

And I was talking to Juan Escalante about if I share [my status] to people that I'm undocumented, publicly on a public platform, or advocate for DACA publicly on a public platform, do I put myself at risk? And Juan blatantly said, yes, there's always a risk.

And then I made the decision that I saw artists like Julio Salgado, I saw artists like tam Tran, I saw artists just in general take that leap and take that risk and be brave and say that they were undocumented or documented. And I decided to take that leap and take that risk myself.

And the moment I came out undocumented publicly, to my friends, to my colleagues, to people in several industries, I became freer and freer, like the pain in my chest went away. And I felt like I stepped into who I really was, rather than someone that was always scared. Now I'm not scared anymore. Like I don't have panic attacks like I used to, just because I was able to share really what my story was.” - Nicole Solis-Sison
