Hoerikwaggo.
This was the original name for one of the most recognizable mountains in the world.
It means "Mountain in the Sea" in the language of the Khoekhoe, and was known as Hoerikwaggo for many centuries before being named Taboa do Cabo by the Portuguese and then Tafel Baay by the Dutch.
We filmed this 2 weeks ago. Yesterday afternoon Hoerikwaggo was ravaged by fires, and continues to burn today.
Our thoughts are with the people who have lost their homes, as well as the firefighters and emergency crews that have been battling this blaze since yesterday afternoon.
