The City of Jasper was designated as a Main Street Alabama community on June 1, 2015. The Jasper Main Street Downtown district has seen significant changes, including thriving businesses and a district that has become a backdrop for many annual events. In addition to the changes of its physical characteristics, a palpable change has taken place in the sense of pride of its people. Jasper Main Street has a growing and diverse group of volunteers dedicated to the fulfillment of the organization’s mission.

Jasper Main Street’s mission for Downtown Jasper is to preserve and enhance the historic charm and integrity of our community while encouraging local spending, tourism, and a sense of community which will improve the local economy.

Jasper Main Street’s vision is to help create a unique and vital downtown that enriches the business community, embraces history, celebrates the arts, preserves our natural environment, and promotes quality events to instill a sense of pride in our community.

The Free Will Baptist Home has been providing a loving home for hurting children since 1947. In our almost 75 years of ministry, they have worked with around 1000 children. They assist the Alabama Department of Human Resources (ALDHR) with placements for foster children and accept private referrals of any family in need of our services.

Most of the children come from very chaotic environments and they strive to provide them with stability, consistency, and love. They want them to have the same opportunities as every other young person. There is no charge for admission.

The Children's Home is a nonprofit that is funded by the generous donations of individuals, churches, businesses, and other organizations. They are well known for the Toy Run motorcycle ride, which is always held the first Saturday in December. At this event, hundreds of motorcyclists gather from all over the state and some from across the country to raise money for the home.

Walker College Foundation was established in 1998. Since that time, they have provided close to $3 million in scholarship funds to students in and around our community. Those funds come from community members – donors who care about the future of our young people and who believe in the power of education to permanently change lives.

Their mission is to support post-secondary education in our community by providing financial, human, and technical support to students who are seeking a college education. They accomplish this mission through two-year scholarships, transfer scholarships, and dual-enrollment scholarships.

St. Mary`s Episcopal Church began a food bank 15 years ago, operating from a closet in the Parish Hall. In 2013 they distributed over 600 bags of groceries. Every Tuesday morning, in addition to distributing food, they operate a diaper bank, and offer breakfast to clients as they wait to register. St Mary's currently distributes on average over 10,000 sets of groceries per year, and in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they distributed over 29,000 bags of groceries.

The food bank director, Mike McClendon, carefully plans what they order through the Community Food Bank of Birmingham, so that costs are low, while providing a variety of staples, protein, and dairy. For every $6 spent, a bag of food worth a minimum of $30 is distributed.

St. Mary's Episcopal is a small congregation of about 170 members. Therefore they could not hope to fund this mission through their regular church budget. They depend upon their annual Valentine’s Day Luncheon fundraiser, grant funding, and outside donations to support this ministry.
