Things we’ve learned in 2024 series:
(Footage from Jan 2024)

1: It’s not as scary as it feels before you do it.

When Josh and I first left in January of 2024, we were honestly a wreck, and so stressed out from fear. It literally had to get to the point where the fear of staying outweighed the fear of leaving. To this day I thank God we were even able to pull it off. Sometimes people, while meaning well, did not understand our choices, and it took a lot out of us to navigate that on top of the already stressful circumstances.
Both Josh and I had gone through ALOT of health issues in the past couple of years beforehand, and we were worried about finding care on the road, and being away from the support system we worked so hard to create.
Josh quit his job to go on the road, which was incredibly brave and scary at the same time. I had never been a traveling tattoo artist before, and I was terrified of not being able to find clients. We didn’t know ANYBODY in alot of the places we’ve gone, and we spent many nights praying about it. I was prepared to go door to door at local businesses handing out business cards. I was joining local Facebook groups, throwing money at Instagram ads, randomly following anyone on ig who had the area code of where we were going in their username, just hoping SOMETHING would stick. I was worried about how other shops would be, I was worried about the market, as the economy had been getting progressively worse and worse since Covid- not to mention we started this journey during the SLOWEST time for tattooing, in January right after the holidays. We were also freaked out about the state of the world overall, and being far from family. It’s funny how fears tend to piggy back on each other. I found myself having endless stream of worry that did not stop until we went out and proved it wrong.

BUT despite all of this, there was a small part of me that KNEW everything would be okay. Josh and I both learned to trust ourselves and each other even more. Every new place we went, new thing we did and new person we talked to slowly expanded our comfort zone, and now our world is a lot bigger because of it ♥️
