Hello everyone,
Before we get to anything else, I would like to update y’all on what has been going on. Our months-long hiatus was not planned, but there were several factors beyond our control that came into play.
I have some sad news to share.
On September 1st, 2023, our founding member, a founding investor, co-writer and co-host, Mr. Robert Bruce Alsobrook suddenly passed away after fighting several health issues over the years. It was a very difficult loss for all who knew and loved him, and especially for his beautiful family. He was only 63.
It has been hard for me to address this publicly, but I wanted to share with our listeners a little bit about him, and what he meant to this project - as we would not be here without him.
Robert was full of life. He was an accomplished career and award-winning journalist, editor, and writer. He had an amazing sense of humor, a passion for equality, and basic human rights for all. He also had the most amazing southern “lilt” of a Texan accent and an incredibly infectious and joyous laugh.
We met through twitter, back in the “good old days” of the platform and became fast friends. We really enjoyed talking with each other, and when I presented him with the idea of the podcast, he was full in. He really inspired me, taught me a lot about writing, and encouraged my journey into the podcast world with gusto.
I was beside myself to be writing the podcast episodes with such a talented and brilliant individual… and again, hilarious. We laughed a lot together. He once told me while we were having our “writer’s meeting” one week: “You know, since I’m mostly retired, I miss this work. Thank you for this honey, I feel like like a real writer again”. Tears of joy. I looked forward to these conversations and collaborations every week.
Robert became ill last spring and was no longer able to record with us, but he was still helping me behind the scenes with writing and episode ideas. Towards the end of last summer, we were thinking that he was going to be able to come back for an occasional episode… I was last in touch with him about a week before things took a turn for the worst.
Needless to say, it took me a bit of time to figure out how I was going to approach the podcast without my right-hand-writer. I wanted to be able to work on the ideas that Robert and I had discussed as the very platform of our project, and he would not have wanted me to quit…
I pulled out all of our notes and get to work on the re-boot.
The podcast goes on with the memory of his enthusiasm, encouragement, and in his honor.
Robert is featured as a co-host on Episodes 1-4 of [Name] of POD.
I particularly love the bit he did about Right Said Fred at the end of Episode 3 - it’s pretty darn funny.
I always be proud of, and thankful for, the work that we did together.
Thank you for everything Robert. You are missed my friend.
