“Seasons on Canvas”
By Olga Guy

I paint the season of life in strokes bold and clear,
Colors of joy that were once shadowed by fear.
The more I define, the more fades from view,
For truth is elusive in each shade of blue.

I paint the seasons of love both tender and wild,
Where passion is fierce, yet as soft as a child.
Summer’s heat cools the closer you stand,
While winter’s cold burns the touch of your hand.

I paint the seasons of the year, ever new,
The flowers that wither to blossom anew.
Autumn’s leaves fall to rise on the breeze,
And winter’s chill warms the soul it might freeze.

I paint what was and what never will be,
To keep a portrait of you, of us, of me.
Each brushstroke defines, yet leaves undefined,
The changes that linger in heart and in mind.”

**Severe Weather and PTSD: How to Cope and Build Resilience**

Experiencing severe weather like hurricanes, tornadoes, or floods can be terrifying, and for some, these events can trigger PTSD or worsen existing trauma. Even the sound of heavy rain or strong winds can bring back intense memories, causing anxiety, flashbacks, or nightmares.

If you're struggling, know you're not alone. Here are a few ways to cope:

1. **Acknowledge Your Feelings**: It's okay to feel fear or anxiety. Recognizing these emotions is the first step to managing them.

2. **Create a Safety Plan**: Having a clear emergency plan can give you a sense of control. Know your evacuation routes, safe spaces, and keep an emergency kit ready.

3. Stay Informed, But Limit Exposure: Keep up with official weather alerts, but avoid nonstop media coverage, which can heighten stress. Ensure that you are receiving accurate information from trusted sources like your local weather station or the National Hurricane Center. Misinformation from unverified sources can lead to confusion and potentially dangerous decisions.

4. **Grounding Techniques**: Practice deep breathing, meditation, or mindfulness to stay in the present moment during stressful times.

5. **Reach Out**: Talk to friends, family, or a counselor. Sharing your experience can relieve some of the emotional burden.

6. **Professional Help**: If severe weather consistently triggers PTSD symptoms, seeking help from a therapist trained in trauma care is crucial.

Building resilience takes time, but with support and self-care, you can manage these overwhelming feelings. Your mental health matters, and it's okay to ask for help when you need it. Stay safe and take care of yourself! 💙

I just can’t look at videos of what’s going on in Florida right now. It takes me back to what we went through with H. Michael in 2018 and I just wanna throw up. I pray everyone in the path of the storm is in a safe place right now.

Today, I had the opportunity to attend the opening reception for the “Bloom Where You Are Planted” art show at the Bay County Public Library on 11th St in Panama City. It was a real pleasure meeting the incredibly talented artists: Kiara Jones with her beautiful watercolors, Heather Mullins Podnar showcasing her mixed media, and Wendi Jackson with her stunning pottery. Each artist's work revolved around the theme of blooming and flowers, reflecting how their art has blossomed alongside their inspiration. Such a lovely and inspiring evening! 🌸
The exhibit will be on display throughout September. And it’s free to the public.
Visit the Bay County Public Library, check out the art show and don’t forget to get a new book or to get your library card if you haven’t already done so.
