The shirt that I made already speaks for itself. I made the second shirt simpler because I wanted people to focus on the words printed at the back of the shirt. Just like my explanation of the first shirt, the rich are always safe while the poor are always the ones being blamed. A lot of unwealthy people are jailed for something that they did not really do. Some of them are just stuck inside because the person who put them there is powerful and has connections with people in authority. While the middle class are the ones who are working very hard just to provide for their families, the government does not really pay much attention to them just because they are working. Some of the middle class just have exact money and some even lack money because of inflation. Wrong decisions being made by these politicians can affect the whole country. No matter what state you are in, you will still be affected. The Philippines deserves politicians that are JUST and FAIR. But this cannot be attained unless Filipinos choose wisely. A lot of Filipinos are still blinded by the small amount of money in exchange for their future and their family’s future. The change in this country will only happen if the Filipinos living in it also change their way of choosing a leader.

The images used to capture the audience are cartoons. The cartoons are like our modern-day politicians. They can easily attract people, and people tend to be fond of them because of their physical appearance. With this, people are voting for politicians just because of their looks and not really because of their capabilities. Let me explain why the design came to be.


The man wearing the barong represents the politicians here in the Philippines. The theme assigned to me was how the Filipino people are under the governance of the Filipino politicians. This man does not represent all the politicians, but I can say that he can represent the majority of them. He acts like he is big, which means he is in authority over everyone. Politicians should be there to help keep order and make sure that Filipinos will have the best time of their lives while living in the Philippines. The man above him represents families who are rich and are considered untouchable. Even though they have already committed a lot of things that are against the law, they cannot be convicted just because they are rich. So we can see that the treatment of the Filipino politicians was not just. The man under the big politician represents the poor, and as we can see, the politicians are almost stepping on him. Here we can see that the rights of the poor are being neglected and stepped on. Lastly, the woman working on the right side represents the middle class. The reason why she is on the right side and far away from the other drawings is that politicians often address them as people who do not need help. Even the middle class is affected by the government's poor performance, and they are all drastically affected by it. The rights and privileges received by the rich and poor should also be received by them. To summarize, the treatment of government officials is not equal, and not all Filipinos are receiving the treatment and privileges they deserve.

As Rizal realizes throughout his life that we should love our own language and the nation, how we shouldn’t fight each other but rather come as one and fight together. How we should love this country and be able to show it with ease. With this shirt it is easily recognizable with its minimalist and simplistic design, with some recognizable symbols in its design. The gradient had the colors of the Philippine flag as each color with the blue meaning peace, truth and justice, red for patriotism and valor. It reminds us how to act for the country and not for ourselves, for the sake of peace we should find the truth and together be proud of this country and our achievements.

“Study how other nations prosper, and do what they do.” This is what Simoun from El Filibusterismo said when asked by the merchants who are failing at their business due to the poor economic conditions of the Philippines. The Philippines has yet to grasp how to be prosperous as it is still trapped in the negative effects of neoliberalization. As such, economic advisers should learn of economic protectionism, a policy of protecting domestic industries from foreign protection. Countries like the USA and Britain have benefitted from this policy, maintaining prosperity in their economies. However, even with the good impacts of this policy to the rich countries, it might not yield the same effects for developing countries like the Philippines due to the restrictions of tariffs and trades. If combine with pragmatism to the policy though, it might work better than expected as revising and reviewing the policy with practical conditions would help and suit the needs of the country’s economy.

Ang ekonomiya ang sinasabing sitwasyong-pangkabuhayan ng isang bansa. Bago pa man
dumating ang mga kastila, ang Pilipinas ay mayroon nang sariling sistemang pang-
ekonomiya. Ang ating mga ninuno ay nabubuhay noon sa pamamagitan ng mga butil,
bungang kahoy sa gubat, pangangaso at pangingisda – lalo na’t ang Pilipinas ay
napapaliligiran ng dagat na siya ring dahilan kung bakit karamihan ay sa tabi ng
karagatan naninirahan. Natutunan din nila ang pagtatanim at pag-aalaga ng mga hayop.
Dito masasabing ang likas na yaman ang pinagkukunan ng ating mga ninuno ng kanilang
pangangailangan sa pang araw-araw na pamumuhay.

Ang sistemang pang-ekonomiya noon ay tinatawag na “barter”. Ang sistemang ito ay
hindi gumagamit ng salapi bilang pambayad sa mga produkto, bagkus ay pagpapalitan
lamang ng mga produkto. Ang mga dala ng mga Tsino – na pangunahing kapalitan ng

Ang pagkakaroon ng matatag na ekonomiya ng isang bayan ay isang indikasyon ng matatag at maunlad na lipunan—lipunang sa anumang oras ay handang magsarili at mamahala nang walang kontrol at impluwensya ng mga banyagang pamahalaan.
Para kay Rizal, ang pagkakaroon ng sapat na pondo ay isang paraan tungo sa matagumpay na balak na paghihimagsik laban sa mapang-aping Espanya. Sabi nga niya sa kanyang liham kay Jose Alejandrino:

“…A revolution has no likelihood of success unless…(3) there should be money and ammunitions available…”

Mula sa pahayag niyang ito ay masasabi nating malaki din ang pagpahalaga ni Rizal sa isang matatag at maunlad na ekonomiya ng bayan. Oo nga naman, papaano ba matutustusan ang mga pangangailangan ng isang malawakang himagsikan kung sa simula pa lang ay wala ng sapat na pondong mailaan para sa mga di-inaasahang gastusin ng samahang naghihimagsik? Ito ay magiging isa lamang pagsasayang ng panahon at buhay. Oo nga’t ang pagkakaisa ng bawat mamamayang Pilipino ay napakahalaga para sa ganitong pag-aalsa, ngunit sa kasamaang palad ay hindi ito sapat para magtagumpay sa kahuli-hulihan; dahil kakailanganin pa rin ang pagkakaroon ng pondo at matatag na ekonomiya para magiging attainable ang inaasam-asam.

CHANGE IT!

Jose Rizal’s economic views were driven by pragmatism, a philosophical movement of using practical ideas to solve issues and rejecting impractical approaches that give unsatisfactory results. In his book, El Filibusterismo, Simoun had advised a failed businessman that it is wise to study the ways and solutions other nations have done to prosper. Simoun’s words reflect on Rizal’s experiences when he traveled through other countries, noting the great effect industrialization has had on the economies of the leading major countries like France, England, America, etc. However, under the colonial rule of the Spanish and Americans, the Philippines remained as a feudal and agricultural country, being the ‘prey’ of its colonizers. Even after gaining independence, the Philippines has yet to fully grasp industrialization as they adopt policies that benefit more of the foreigners’ needs and interests rather than the Filipinos’, resulting in little economic progress and increased poverty. Seeing that these policies have made unsatisfactory results for the country, it is time to review and change them with practical approaches in order to solve the economic issues of the nation. Hence, this is how the shirt is designed to show the pragmatic view of Jose Rizal towards the economy of the Philippines, “If it does not work, change it!”.

Ang buhay ni Jose Rizal ay sumasalamin ng taong nasyonalismo sa pamamagitan ng pagkanaranas ng paghihirap dahil sa pagigin Pilipino. Siya’y nagpapakita ng suliranin ng lipunan gamit ng sulat at wika. Noong pumuntang Europa si Rizal, nagkaroon siya ng pagkakataon ilabas ang kanyang damdamin at ipaaalam ang katotohanan sa kapwa niyang Pilipino ukol sa abuso ng Kastila. Sa disneyo ng damit, nakalahay ang layunin ng La Solidaridad ang unang ganapan ng “propaganda” nilikha ng mga Illustrados sa Europa. Itong layunin ay ang simpleng pagnanais ng pagbabago sa pamahalaan upang maging mahusay at patas.

Sa titulo ng disenyo nakalagay ang payag na “Rizal, Reform, Revolt.” Ang dahilan at kahulugan nito ay si Jose Rizal ay isang repormista na naniniwala na ang reporma ay maaaring solusyon at pagmulan ng pagbabago sa bansa. Nakalagay din ang salitang “Revolt” dahil sa pagbabagong isip ni Rizal na baka rebulusyon lamang ay paraan upang ipaglaban ang karapatan ng mga Pilipino. Paano ba iapply ang ideya ni Rizal sa mga polisa pangpolitika? Una, may kapangyarihan ang mamamayan upang ipakalat ang kanilang kaalaman. Gamitin ang boses sa tamang paraan, hindi ang karahasan. Pangalawa, sa mga kabataan, magaral ng mabuti para palalimin ang kamalayan; Upang maging tapat ang henerasyon sa kinabukasan.

Sa El Filibusterismo, sinabi ni Simoun ang salitang “Kung ano ang pamahalaan, haoon din ang bansa. And ibig sabihin nito ay nagsasalamin ang pamahalaan ang kalidad ng bansa. Higit pa, kung puno ng bisyo at korapsyon ang pamahalaan, sigurado ganon rin ang bansa. Ito’y isang katotohanan ng kabulukan ng lipunan sapagkat malakas ang impluwensya ng pamahalaan sa pagunlad ng bansa. Itong sining ay nagpapakita ng taong nalulunod dahil hinihila pababa. Ganon din ang mangyayari sa bansang may sirang pamahalaan na puno ng mga sirang pinuno. Naglalarawan ang disenyo ng paalala sa kabataan na napakaimportanteng tuligsain ang mali ng pamahalaan upang maiwasan ang paghila. In the recently concluded 2022 elections, we know that a lot of people fell for disinformation being spread by trolls. A lot of people who also voted in this year’s elections were first-time voters.

We have to keep in mind these things in order not to make the same mistakes again. We can live in a country where justice prevails and society is at peace if we just learn how to elect leaders who are clean when it comes to track records and leaders who are willing to serve the people wholeheartedly. Believe it or not, there are still a lot of politicians who are sincerely in it for the job. We just have to do our part, and that is to research.
