The transition into motherhood is a challenging time for many moms and there's never a more important time to ensure you look after and nurture yourself. A recurring theme on First Time Mum's Chat has been the lack of information available to moms to help them with their own health and wellbeing during the postpartum period.

This week's guest Allison Lieberman owns a marriage and family therapy practice in California and focuses her energies on helping new moms and new parents transition into motherhood and parenthood.

In this week's episode of First Time Mum's Chat I'm talking with Dr Ravi Rajaratnam an author and management consultant. Dr Ravi has spent decades teaching business leaders to reach their full potential and he realised that a common theme that kept popping up was their belief systems, which led back to their childhood.

During my many years as a child care educator, I was always fascinated by the Montessori method and how it differs from mainstream childcare and education.

I've always been impressed with how their approach encourages children to learn to be independent and how it makes them more environmentally aware and interested in learning about the environment.

In this episode, I'm exploring the world of Montessori and its philosophy and how it can help with infant development.

When it comes to the growth and development of your little one, I think it's safe to say that most mums have a tendency to be oversensitive.

We all have stories to relate of parents we know or have seen being hugely over protective.

However, no one knows your little one like you do, so it's important to seek professional help if you feel something is amiss with their natural development. Always trust that gut feeling!

In this episode, I'm talking with Theresa Inman, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist and author of the book How Can I Help My Child Communicate.

You'll hear Theresa and I talk about why it's so important for early intervention and to get them diagnosed early during the crucial birth to aged three window and much more.

As a baby massage instructor, I'm always striving to impart to new parents the importance and massive benefits of massaging and touching their little one.

Their birth journey is a dramatic one and this is of course far more challenging when they are born prematurely. They are likely to face time in the NICU and being poked and prodded with endless tests.

This week's guest Tracey Kondrasuk-Brander is no stranger to this world, as a neonatal and early intervention, occupational therapist.

You'll hear Tracey and I talk about the importance of touch and why it is even more important with babies born prematurely and much more.

As a parent, it's easy to worry when your little one's verbal development seems slow or delayed. As a childcare educator and baby massage instructor, it's second nature for me to look for and interpret their non-verbal cues.

Learning to read your little one's non-verbal communication is something I highly recommend to all parents and in this week's episode, you'll hear me speaking with Louise Day, who is a speech and language therapist. Louise works with children under 5, often who are non-speaking, so she has lots of tips and insights to offer.

Bringing children into the world and raising them is often a stressful time for you as a parent, so why make it harder on yourself by projecting your expectations and demanding perfect kids. Whilst it’s important to provide that guiding hand, you also need to let kids be kids and allow your kids to make their way in the world, warts and all!

This week’s guest Lisa Sugarman is a mother of two, a parenting author, columnist and radio show host. You'll hear Lisa and I talk about why trying to be perfect parents and protect your kids from everything will prevent them from reaching their full potential and why you need to ensure your children can handle life, take care of themselves and speak for themselves.

A lot of the moms I speak with who suffer from postpartum depression and anxiety feel very alone, overwhelmed and they feel unsupported by society. This week's guest Suzanne Yatim Aslam had a hard time with her two children and went through some very dark times and didn't get help when she needed it.

Suzanne has written a book called Post Pardon Me which is written in the form of journal entries and it's an opportunity to get inside her head. She addresses the thoughts that so many mothers have but are too scared to say out aloud.

If you're struggling with postpartum depression and anxiety, then don't miss this episode.

Colic is a condition that many moms often ask me for help with. This is one of the motivators I had for becoming a baby massage instructor since it broke my heart seeing so many babies suffering.

Did you know there are easy to learn baby massage techniques which you can introduce into your daily routines which parents have had good results with to help their little one's colic.

This led me to put together the Colicky Baby 101 mini course and it's a self paced course delivered via video and written materials. I've designed it so you can learn the necessary techniques quickly and easily and get started in as little as an hour!

Regularly when I'm out and about I see parents chatting with their family and friends whilst their toddler sits mesmerized watching cartoons and other content on their Ipad or Iphone.

As a childcare educator over many years and being of an age where I recall life without smartphones and yes, even computers ;-) , I've often wondered how this effects their future behavior and development.

This week's guest, Melissa Lowry, is a school principal in Atlanta and has seen it all over her many years of experience in the education sector. I had a great chat with Melissa and it was interesting to hear about how things look from the coalface and to hear her thoughts and recommendations to parents.

Introducing children to science when they are just toddlers or preschoolers is not something that many of us think of. Many of the mums I speak with expect it to be costly, complicated and even dangerous!

Science can be an easy and fun activity for kids to do and you can get started when they are just toddlers.

This week's guest, Dr Stephanie Ryan, Ph.D. is a chemist, author and mum who helps young kids explore the fascinating world around them. Dr. Stephanie has taught science to all age groups, helping toddlers learn about their world.
