Here's how we made our stop motion for Harbour Lane Studio ...read on to find out how we made it jump...
1️⃣ We shot all the stop motion for the first shot, including the hand on the blank canvas
2️⃣ We then shot the watercoloured canvas on its own, to match the animation. We'll later blend these 2 shots together in using masking.
3️⃣ We moved the camera for the second shot, lining up the lampshade position and used rolls of tape to make it jump in the air. At the end, we shot an image of a blank background so we could mask this over the tape to look like the lampshade was floating.
4️⃣ In the edit, I graded the last bit with warmer light to give more of a living room vibe once the lamp turns on
5️⃣ Finally I added some sound design to help tell the story. Can you hear the seagulls?

For this shoot, we kept tweaking all of the little bits until we really felt like we nailed the look. 🙌
Sometimes setting up for a stop motion can take longer than actually animating it! From meticulously positioning each prop to adjusting lighting and choosing camera angles, the setup process takes a long time.
But when it all comes together and you see your final animation, the time and effort is completely worth it.
In short...Setting up for stop motion: hours. Animating it: also hours. The magic of stop motion: priceless 😉🪄

We really enjoyed getting crafty to bring The Discovery Journal to life in stop motion 📝 We cut out lots of paper pieces and characters to help the viewer to visualise what it's like to fill out the journal and the emotional change it can bring.

Peoples attention spans are decreasing by the minute, so creating a series of shorter animations is often more effective than cramming lots of products and messages into one longer video 🙌
Having shorter bursts of stop motion means that each video can really focus on one product or message. A series of shorter stop motion videos allow it to have multiple uses. You can even put all the clips together, like we did here for Human Health (these were originally short-form videos), to make a longer edit for your website or other social platforms!

It's always a challenge to change the background colour in stop motion (spot our concentration faces!!) but we got there in the end 🌈 What do you guys think?
