Interesting morning 🤔 As usual, first light was somewhat productive but slowed right down after an hr. After talking to people on the bank how slow fishing is and bite is off, I tried all sorts of beads, roe, and spoon. I went through my bag and found one last jig, after few quick jigging. I had a big hit on the drop! Quick faster jigs staying away from the bottom. I was excited since it was my first coho on the jig this year. I think it was a reaction bite from the aggressive coho. The jig were from 3/8oz. I need more jigs…I see quite a bit of people jiggling and foul hooking repeatedly. I think there’s a time and place to jig. I personally wouldn’t jig in school of fish or if there is a lot of anglers around especially first light since foul hooking them first light could mess up the run and get a uncomfortable look from other anglers. When things are slow or even day time, that reaction bite can be so effective!

Cherish the moment! As we approach thanksgiving, we often take thing for granted. It is going to be the busiest weekend on the Vedder River. We all have one thing in common when heading out to the river which is to Enjoy! Respecting others goes a long way. So far this year, I came across numerous awesome people in the fishing community. For most of them it was their first fish of the season or even first ever! As much as I like catching fish, something about seeing someone new catch their first is a pleasure to watch. It’s always important to share proper techniques and etiquette to make the vedder river itself better. Taking tiny bit of your time and teaching who’s new goes a long way. Good karma will head to your way ;)

Sometime it’s all about patience and making changes! One thing about ice fishing is that if the fish isn’t willing to show up, you need to drill lots of holes. I do not have an electric auger so it’s extra work and very tiring. CHANGE your presentation to something small or big if the normal way doesn’t work. You’d be very surprised. The season is just getting started! Grab your ice rods and head out there 🏔️

First time seeing and catching a STEELHEAD! Last minute decision was a good move to head out for an hr on the river. Had a rough few days in life but this definitely brighten up my day. Life is funny that way. Such a beautiful creature. Now I can say I caught a unicorn. Thank you Petr for netting this beauty. When there’s a downfall there’s always a way up. Keep it going. I’m excited for this moment. Truly a blessing living here and experiencing the moment

Post work. Today I caught my first ever coho on a Started hot with one wild coho and chum with my float rod. Things started to get little slow, I was like why not try twitching, 5th cast in booom! Big milestone for me. So far this season, I have only seen one guy that hooked in the mouth while jigging. That is not a good ratio. I twitched super fast with small movement. Did not snag one fish today. Still not 100% convinced but it was nice to get a first one
