Well said, Brett!

It is difficult for religious communities to push common sense while following safety protocols that are anything but, writes Brett Salkeld.

My newest piece for the Archdiocese.

By Fr. Parker LoveDespite having not released a new episode in almost a decade, Greg Daniel’s The Office remains a cultural phenomenon. In its original run, this television sitcom ran for nine seasons and was regularly praised by critics and audiences. Since it ended, and especially since it began...

Loiuise Glück is an American poet, and the winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature, and in the 21st episode of the podcast, Fr Parker tries to talk about some of her poems as if he actually knows what he is talking about. I mean, he did do a whole degree in English literature, so that should help, right?! Tune in to find out.

Here's the description of this week's podcast: "Fr Parker was very tired when he recorded this episode, and he stresses that point multiple times in the Podcast and now at least once in the description. Still don't believe him? This podcast was recorded on time but released late because he was so tired that he forgot he had to actually upload it somewhere and not just let magical podcast faeries take care of the hard work.

Maybe that's why he didn't have the time of day for the incredibly sexist and aged-poorly-even-though-it's-only-seven-years-old-sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Tune in for a rant!"

If that's not quality content, then I don't know what is!

Note: I probably don't know what is.

It's been almost four weeks since I watched Velocipastor, and the real truth is that I am still laughing at some of its ridiculousness. I'm not sure if that reveals more about how ridiculous I am or the film is, but the 20th episode of this podcast takes itself slightly more serious than the film it is based on does.

How can we say that the Church wishes to bring us back into the Dark Ages? The Church was the only thing that ever brought us out of them.

This is just a lovely moment and exactly the content we needed at the end of a long day. Father is saying a blessing. The innocence of a child. They’re trying not to laugh. Best thing you’ll see today… pic.twitter.com/8ueI8JLhnf — Rex Chapman🏇🏼 () October 21, 2020 High five!...

The nineteenth episode of the podcast is about Flannery O'Connor's second novel, The Violent Bear it Away. O'Connor is a master of Catholic fiction, and easily one of Fr Parker's favourite writers because she doesn't shy away from the hard questions of our faith. This novel demonstrates her deep understanding of the faith and her great ability to craft terrible, hateful characters who are overwhelmed by the Grace of God. Tune in to hear more.

The eighteenth episode of the podcast is the most Catholic topic yet, but that's not saying much since what is probably the second most Catholic topic was the Netflix series . Could Fr Parker possibly like the film Fatima, a film about his favourite Marian apparition, less than he liked Warrior Nun. There are several ways to find out, but the easiest is to listen to the podcast.

Fr Parker delayed talking about Brooklyn Nine-Nine only because The Good Place came on Netflix with enough time to talk about it in the sixteenth episode. The seventeenth episode, then, had to be about this other great show that was co-created by Mike Schur. It lives up to the hype and is hilarious.
