A moment from episode 19 when therapist @summerforlenza tells people to support survivors by helping them find a therapist and do paperwork.
It’s kind of meta right?

Just @jessmichaelsspeaks out here dropping BOMBS on the latest SGTC. #truecrime #truecrimecommunity #ghislanemaxwell #sgtc
Have you listened to this week’s episode of SGTC? If so, there’s no way you didn’t laugh during this conversation. @jessmichaelsspeaks insisted we keep this joke in the original version of the podcast, but for a very valid reason.
JM: “Me, a survivor of Epstein from Sandy Hook, have no jokes. It’s all bad all the f***ing time. Can we please have one joke publicly that would make sense to every human?”
KCR: “Hell yes, you need some jokes!”
JM: “I have no dark humor only people who look at me and feel traumatized for me and too traumatized to talk to me”
Kim and Kara understand this all too well. We talked about that feeling of loneliness in doing this work, and it can be especially isolating when it’s all bad all the time. Humor has always been a large part of our coping strategies (and lives in general), but it disarms others and creates a comfortable space to discuss uncomfortable topics.
This brings us back to the most important part of establishing this podcast—this is a space for survivors to tell their stories, on their terms, and to their own comfort levels. Putting the power and autonomy back in a victim’s hands following a traumatic event is one of the best forms of supportive healing you can offer. So if a survivor wants to talk about and make fun of their offender’s anatomy, we are gonna talk about and make fun of their offender’s anatomy!

How do we approach talking to and helping people with different life experiences with us?
Well, according to our friend @barrettpall just take a chance and recognize that we will make mistakes. And the fear of making them keeps us from finding unity.
Tell us what you think! Does the appease response make sense? Have you experienced this before?
