As everyone is aware the Amazon rainforest has been on fire for weeks now. This isn't a new thing though, Brazilian farmers burn areas to make way for cattle or farm land. This happens more than you would think. Except this time isn't exactly what people are used to. Over 7,200 miles of forest has burned, this is almost the size of New Jersey. Many countries and individuals have offered aid including Leonardo Dicaprio and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. What you might not know, is that the president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro turned the $20 million that was offered at the G7 Summit down. He stated to CNN that he would only accept the money if the French President Emmanuel Macron apologized for his "insults" against him. Macron claims that Bolsonaro lied about climate commitments. Later on that same day though, Bolsonaro told governors of states that he would negotiate with France. Is Bolsonaro's pride more important than the safety of the land and citizens though? Well, when he goes to a personal level on Facebook and makes fun of Macron's wife, maybe not. Yes, there are other donations coming in and they aren't small. Help is help though, and personal feelings should be set aside for a greater good. Many leaders agree and have called out Bolosonaro for his poor decisions in the situation. Donald Trump though, has tweeted out to Bolsonaro stating that he was doing a "good job". In the end though, it doesn't matter if you are with or against Bolsonaro. Either way, the rainforest is burning and the world around isn't doing much better.
