that were probably the first Italian electronic group and if their music was filled with echoes of early Kraftwerk (daddy Ralf and daddy Florian), it soon developed its own original style, preceding the British electronic musical experience of the early 80s (Depeche Mode, Human League, John Foxx, etc…). The label was re-founded in the 2014 releasing the N.O.I.A. old stuff in with new recordings, a

dding new tracks and remixes. Until now the label released music by Prins Thomas, The Orb, Gaudi, Daniele Baldelli, Kirk Degiorgio, Dj Skull, The Hacker, Black Asteroid, TenGrams and more others. In a few words it’s possible to describe it as “Folk music for the robot generation”. Records nasce della band N.O.I.A., probabilmente il primo gruppo elettronico italiano e se la loro musica si richiamava agli esordi ai Kraftwerk (babbo Ralf e babbo Florian), si sviluppò presto in modo originale, precedendo l'esperienza musicale elettronica inglese dei primi anni ’80. L'etichetta è stata ri-fondata nel 2014, pubblicando vecchie tracce edite ed inedite in nuove versioni e remix. Fino ad ora l'etichetta ha coinvolto diversi artisti come Prins Thomas, The Orb, Gaudi, Daniele Baldelli, Kirk Degiorgio, Dj Skull, The Hacker, Black Asteroid, TenGrams e altri ancora. Interessata ad un’ampia visione della musica elettronica, la label, In poche parole è possibile descriverla con lo slogan "Folk music for the robot generation".

N.O.I.A. Records is proud to announce the arrival of a nine track album from Italian pair TenGrams entitled 'The Defect Of Equality'.

TenGrams are brothers Alessandro and Davide Piatto, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of electronic music. Davide is a co-founder of N.O.I.A, one of Italy's first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synths as early as 1978. He was also the musician behind seminal Italo outfit Klein & M.B.O and proto house hit 'Dirty Talk'.

Since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this project brings them right back to their electronic roots.

Recorded and mixed between January and June of 2022, vintage synths, drum machines and samplers and 'no rules or music trends' went into the writing process here, and the result is a work that is influenced by sci-fi movies and electronic music from Krautrock to techno-pop.

'The Defect Of Equality' is a nostalgic ode to 80s Synthpop and New Wave.

All of us at On-U Sound are devastated to learn of the passing of Mark Stewart. His importance and influence in the story of the label cannot be over-stated: he appeared on the first album we put out, the debut New Age Steppers LP in 1981, he appeared on one of the most recent records we released, Pay It All Back Volume 8, and he headlined the 40th anniversary show at the Forum in London last year.

Adrian Sherwood recalls: “I met Mark in the Revolver record shop in Bristol around 1975 or 76. I was 17 or 18 and he would have been 14 or 15 - a giant spotty schoolboy music fanatic. He would wait there for what he and his mates called the "van from Zion" which was what they called my reggae delivery vehicle carrying the new tunes every week.”

Whilst Adrian got involved with releasing records via the pre-On-U Sound imprints Carib Gems, Hit Run and 4D Rhythms; Mark made a name for himself fronting the funk-driven agit prop blitzkrieg of The Pop Group. Their friendship endured over the years, with the two collaborating closely on Stewart’s solo work, and Mark openly acknowledged as a strong influence on Adrian’s aesthetic. On Mark's debut solo album Learning To Cope With Cowardice they tried to replicate the sound of blown out cassette tapes that Mark would bring to the studio of Jah Shaka and other sound system dances. The Maffia were a shifting collective, initially featuring members of Creation Rebel, but later to include the famous US trio of Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald and Keith LeBlanc, known variously as The Sugarhill Gang, Fats Comet and Tackhead.

Adrian adds: "Working with Mark was something of a sound re-education. You spent a lot of studio time unlearning, experimenting and ignoring rules about levels to tape and studio dos and don'ts. You discovered how much fun could be had in the land of overload."

He will be hugely missed.

Antenna! is the brand new music project created by the Italian producer Andrea Bertolini. Andrea, who's a synth addicted and craftsman of the sound, over the last decade has shaped his own groove signature releasing hundreds of tracks for the best electronic music labels of the world; his particular attention and passion for stuff like Chicken Lips, Loose Joints and The Emperor Machine, that have been source of inspiration for him from day one, has generated the idea to create Antenna!. Juno 106, Korg MonoPoly and SCI Pro-one are his special weapons and disco, funk, house and psychedelic attitude are the special ingredients.
