Victor Sims is a community leader, seasoned speaker and the founder of Guiding Hope Inc, Child Welfare Agency that was founded in July of 2020 because of the growing and expansive needs of the Child Welfare System. As a tedx speake he focuses on the imperative aspects of social capital for youth in foster care. Although experiencing Florida’s foster care system, Victor has traveled the country advising legislators on various issues regarding teens experiences in foster care. Having been apart of many initiatives and successful pilot programs, Victor’s main aim is to inspire hope within others who are experiencing a sense of hopelessness so that they can shift their perspective for good no matter how rough their start was.

Veronica Krupnick is a member of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona with Jemez Pueblo and Navajo heritage. She is the Mentorship, Advocacy and Peer Support,(MAPS) Program Coordinator with CASA First .She is also a member of the Child Welfare and Race Equity Collaborative, the New Mexico Partners, Tewa Women United and the National Foster Youth and Alumni Policy Council. Her work’s focus is supporting the holistic well-being and healing journey of indigenous people and communities. Veronica is currently attending New Mexico Highlands University, pursuing a master of social work degree, the first in my biological family to do so.

Rimy Morris is 24 year old and has 11 years of lived experience in child welfare. She is the co-founder of Raising Resilience, an organization created to act as a support to minority communities through providing tools, training and custom-made resources to support them and the people who work with them. She is also the author of the Foster Parents; Caring in Color and the Foster Parents; Caring in Color Guidebook.
Rimy works in multiple spaces in child welfare, nationally and locally, to help young people currently experiencing care to find their voices.
Rimy is currently working to expand her public speaking, training and planning to publish more resources to aid in creating change in child welfare.

Foster care remains an important part of society. Unfortunately, very little attention is paid to the travails of young people in foster care even in 2021. Recent reports have revealed that less than 5% of young people with foster care experience graduate post-secondary education. These unfortunate statistics can be attributed to the lack of care in the system, leading youth to become victims of sex-trafficking and mental health patients. CAN YOU IMAGINE THE STATISTICS of success since this global pandemic ?! The injustice in the system and white supremacy have worsened the case, which is where Ángela Quijada-Banks is looking to raise awareness about the plight of young BIPOC in foster care and how supportive adults can help! The Black Foster Youth Handbook has been going under some significant updates since the release on September 29,2020 , let's unpack them and learn how you as a child welfare professional ( GALS, Foster /resource parent, social workers, therapists, foster care nonprofit or any supporter of young people in foster care can support their success and healing journey.
