We are celebrating ONE YEAR of Needle Engine!

More than 10.000 projects made with Needle have been published to Glitch and other platforms in the past year. We’re grateful to be home to such an incredible community!
And we’re just getting started on our path to ubiquitous 3D.
Time flies! One year ago, we presented Needle Engine to the world, the best way to build rich, interactive 3D apps for the web. Throughout the year, we improved all areas of Needle Engine: high-fidelity rendering, spatial UIs, particles, stronger WebXR, visionOS support, a multitude of new samples and integrations, and so much more. Our Unity Integration continues to get better, the Blender Integration is now in public alpha, and we now have an Omniverse Integration too.

Thank you for an amazing first year! 💚
Teams from all over the world are creating with Needle. From cultural understanding to digital heritage, high-end product visualization to treating long covid, digital art at SIGGRAPH to brand experiences – Web Apps made with Needle make 3D content so much more accessible to a wide audience, without requiring any installation or wait times.

The founders of A.MUSE – Interactive Studio, Minh Binh Herbst and Christin Marczinizik, have created the augmented reality app Songs of Cultures, designed to help children learn languages through playful songs from around the world.

Considering the refugee crisis in Europe and the Ukrainian War it was their fervent wish to add Ukrainian and Syrian cultures to their 3D experience.
Adding more languages and additional interactive songs, the iOS and Android App came to its limits in the year 2022.
They quickly reached the 500MB Limit, which we all know, is a big size for an app to be downloaded.

The Songs of Culture app was developed in Unity with individual 3D content and timeline animations for each song. With the help of Needle Engine Songs of Cultures was transformed into a web app running in every browser.
Using Needle Engine Songs of Cultures loads in a flash and runs smoothly on the web – even with a lot more content, new cultures and songs.

The outstanding difference to other tools or engines on the market is that the Songs of Cultures Creator Team can now easily add more worlds and songs themselves using their trusted tools in Unity.

Songs Of Culture is a perfect example of how Needle can change the game: Songs of Cultures, winner of the Unity for Humanity Imagine Grant – now running on Needle Engine – will be exhibited at the United Nations next week.

Songs of Cultures, a free app with songs from around the world, started as a regular app for Android and iOS. Now, as a web app made with Needle, it can reach many more people with much less friction – fast loading, working on any device, no download required.

Automatic LODs are now available in Needle Engine 3.36 It does decrease the download size significantly because only the data that is needed will be loaded instead of everything all at once - you get a lower resolution version first for assets that are either not visible or far away and better quality meshes and textures are loaded when necessary AFTER the scene is already interactive.
