30 million free breakfasts and counting!

The School Breakfast Club program offers free and health breakfasts for students across the state.

The Andrews Labor Government is backing this in with more than $2 Million in extra funding.
Students need to focus on learning in the classroom and not on their empty tummy.

For too long the topic of menopause has been one of those things which is rarely spoken about.

This has made it harder for people to get the information they need and healthcare they deserve.

It's time for that to change.

As co-chair of Parliamentary Friends of Women's Health, I was proud to host a roundtable this morning to talk about Menopause.

We were joined by some incredible speakers, health experts and parliamentary colleagues for a bipartisan discussion.

Thanks to all who attended to take part in this important conversation.

It has taken the robodebt royal commission to do it, but Australians are being given dramatic evidence that the very underpinnings of our system of government have been trashed at great cost to the nation.

🏄 Surfs Up! 🏄‍♂️

Over the weekend I joined the Environment Minister, Ingrid Stitt MP at Point Leo for the opening of a new kiosk and accessible amenity block.

There we met with Tony from Point Leo Foreshore Park and Reserve and Pea the president of the Disabled Surfers Association Mornington Peninsula (DSAMP).

The project was funded from grants through the Victorian Governments Great Outdoors Camping and Caravan grant, Changing Places grant and contributions from Point Leo Reserve.

Following the opening, we were lucky to see DSAMP put on a ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ event. It was awesome to see everyone have a go at surfing, it’s been some time since I’ve been on a board but the joy and smiles on everyone’s face allowed me to live vicariously through them!

Thanks to everyone who came down to support a great initiative, having representives from all levels of government shows unity and solidarity in making sure everyone has access to all the great things on the Peninsula.

Labor Governments make history.
Labor Governments change lives.
Labor Governments shape the future.

Mary Doyle knows this. She has lived it — she is still living it.
And now, in Aston, you can help her write a new chapter in the story.

Forget walking on sunshine.

We're running on solar.

And saving state schools around $10,000 a year on energy bills while we're at it.

More than 230 schools are part of the Greener Government School Buildings program - with more on the way.

And that means cheaper energy bills and reduced emissions.

Cleaner, more sustainable schools.

And a better future for our students.

This is what a community battery looks like.

It helps households to lower their electricity bills.

And reduces pressure on our electricity grid.

The Albanese Government is rolling out 400 of them in neighbourhoods across the country.

Including one right here in Carrum Downs.

I know our community is concerned about the proliferation, on TV and online, of sports betting ads.

As chair of the parliamantary inquiry into online gambling we've heard evidence from people around Australia frustrated by betting ads.

Today the inquiry will hear more evidence about the effectiveness of current online gambling harm minimisation measures.

As well as ideas on new approaches that may be necessary to reduce harm.

It’s been 10 years since the last National Cultural Policy.

10 years without a genuine commitment to Australian content - to making sure we get Australian voices, faces, stories on streaming services.

We can do better.

Stay tuned for Tony Burke MP and Anthony Albanese launching our National Cultural Policy tomorrow.

Stopped in at Nairm Marr Djambana.

The Aboriginal community in Frankston have worked tirelessly to open the doors here and to keep them open.

And they have so many exciting projects in the works for 2023.

Looking forward to supporting their work.

Speaking to media this morning.

This is the Year of the Voice.

This is our opportunity for the first time ever to recognise Australia’s First Nations people in our constitution.

At its heart, the Voice is a simple ask:

That we recognise First Nations people in our constitution, and we make real progress on closing the gap by truely listening to Indigenous communities about what they need.

Zero Integrity

“If you can’t be honest with yourself, you can’t be honest with anyone.” That little homily is playing out for the federal Liberal Party.

The govt is expecting a return to pre-pandemic migration levels this year but the projections may be too bullish given the global environment.

After a Christmas lull in hostilities, Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton have opened fire over the Voice to Parliament.

09/01/2023

Former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull has doubled down on his criticism of Australia's nuclear submarines plan, saying it risks the nation's independence.

The festive season has ended in tragedy with three fatal drownings, a further three significant incidents, and 48 rescues conducted by lifesavers in Victorian waters since Christmas Day.

With the mercury expected to hit 37 degrees today marking our hottest day for the year so far, we’re urging people to prioritise safety around water.

💧Seek out patrolled locations and swim between the red and yellow flags
💧Always bring a friend when recreating in, on, or by the water
💧Leave alcohol until after you’ve left the water
💧Actively supervise children around water
💧Check the conditions before you head out

We want everyone to get home safe.

Hiding from the heat (of course we all are 🥵)?

Give a thought to our furry and feathered friends, leave some water out for them if you can.

A core Liberal belief is “in a just and humane society in which the importance of the family and the role of law and justice is maintained”.

Enhancing justice is essential. Injustice begets injustice, but with justice comes a caring and humane society.

And so, I was honoured to have been appointed today by Liberal Leader John Pesutto as the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and Corrections. I may also have more to say on a further role in coming days.

This role brings together my experiences in Federal Parliament – as Chair of the Australian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs & Aid Sub-Committee and the Australian Government’s Home Affairs & Legal Affairs Policy Committee, bringing about Australia’s Modern Slavery Act and other justice initiatives – career experiences as a magistrates’ associate, lawyer, international lawyer through the UN in Kosovo, CEO, with the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery and with Australia’s Modern Slavery Expert Advisory Group, plus master’s degrees in law and diplomacy.

I’ll have more to say on this portfolio area, but I look forward to using this experience to help bring about a better and fairer justice and corrections system in Victoria, to improve youth justice, to further tackle the scourge of modern slavery in Victoria and Victorian supply chains, and more, working closely with Shadow Ministers, the Liberal and Nationals team, and Parliament.

On a separate note, I was informed yesterday that I will need to give my Inaugural Speech this Tuesday 20 December, sometime between 6-7.30pm at the Parliament of Victoria. Given limited spaces in the public gallery, if you’ve been involved in my campaign and would like to attend in person, please RSVP to my wife Grace via [email protected] or by calling her, as you will need to be registered. Otherwise, it will also be available to watch on livestream, or after the speech on video.
