Why overstimulation diminishes your radiance + the Soul-ution!

From doom gloom media and social media chatter to overflowing inboxes and family demands, you are inundated with noise. Glued to the screen, your monkey mind races like an overheated computer. And toxic emotions stick to the bottom of your gut like old chewing gum.

Associated with a low vibrational frequency, these thoughts and emotions diminish your power, energy (life force), and abundance. And they lead to poor physical health, toxic relationships and icky life circumstances. After all, like attracts like. And ultimately, these thoughts and emotions become roadblocks that force you to take the looong route to manifest your highest potential.

It’s hard to filter through the endless stream of content to find the gems. And yes, there are gems out there that have changed my life for the better. So, the answer isn't to stop consuming stories. But to intentionally consume quality over quantity.

Regardless of whether the stories are fact or fiction, the emotions they evoke within you are real. And the good ones help you explore metaphysical topics, the Universe, and your most authentic self.

Despite ongoing ankle injuries, declined credit cards, and mounting debt, I never sensed my chronic root chakra blockage.

It was calling for H-E-L-P every time I rolled an ankle and limped back home from yoga practice. But alas, I overlooked the energetic origins and rationalized the pain: “it’s just an old gymnastics injury.”

A chakra is an energy center, or a small vortex point of concentrated energy, that receives and sends energy to and from you. It may be energy in the form of a person’s emotion or thought.

The chakra system is constantly filtering through the energy that you encounter. It may store the energy in the body or release it. Ultimately, the chakras are responsible for your body’s energy maintenance, health and wellbeing.

As a change manager by day, I’m fascinated by the ooey gooey world of emotions. Bubbling beneath the surface, emotions lie at the root of all thoughts and beliefs. Grief from the loss of a loved one thinks, “If only I had been there…” Desire to buy another crystal thinks, “I have to have it NOW.” And apathy thinks, “Why bother starting a business. It’s just a waste of time and money.”

Mystic Muse isn’t just a muse for my readers. It’s also my muse. I never felt so inspired and connected to the divine than when I was writing Mystic Travel Magazine. So, a new digital magazine is in the works!

But there will be some changes:
- This magazine won’t be travel focused. While the idea is still percolating, it will be healing with goddess self-care, sacred crafts, crystal healing rituals, astrology, numerology, and tarot guidance.
- It will be a mini monthly magazine, not seasonal.
- There will be complementary video content for divine dance classes. Yes, I’m finally going to teach belly dance for self-healing!

I've always been a "doer" — writing, editing, designing, dancing, researching, mothering, etc. Juggling several different activities is the norm. But then I stopped... ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✨ Yes, I stopped the treadmill and sat down. Then I magically sank into a dream world made of plush feathers and silk, aka my bed. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
😴 For real, I've been sleeping and dreaming A LOT. S*x dreams, dreams of surfing a hurricane, dreams of being chased by an ogre. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
🧘🏽‍♀️ After 10+ hours of astral adventures, I would practice yoga. And if I'm not stuck in a Netflix coma, I would dust off my plant-based cookbooks and make a healthy meal. All this excitement is between mothering, of course. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✨ But let me be straight, I didn't intend on taking a break from Mystic Muse and screenwriting. Each night, I would set the intention to jumpstart my creative practice. And each morning, I would wake up at 8AM with my four-year-old. And so, I kept missing that small creative window of complete silence and "me" time. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✨ Yes, for the past few months I've been stuck in "being" mode. And frankly, I wish I enjoyed it more. Most of the time, I couldn't shake the itch that I should be finishing that screenplay or maintaining my blog. But this break allowed me to go within and choose my next path with sacred intention.​​​​​​​​

Ok I know I’ve been M.I.A. for too long so I wanted to fill you in on my life over the past few months. 👇🏼​​​​​​​​

✍🏼 Truth be told, I’m knee deep in writing a short film script inspired by my deceased brother, Justin. Indeed, I process grief through writing. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
💔 As you may know, Justin struggled with drug addiction for 15 years before his passing last year at 30-years-old of fentanyl poisoning. He was a talented athlete with loads of charisma, but he struggled to manage his anxiety without hard drugs. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✍🏼 Through writing this script, I’m digging deep into the rabbit hole of mental health. What was at the root of Justin’s anxiety and addiction? ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
I may never know the answer to that question. But this creative process made me ask fundamental questions: What is success? A respectable career, money, a home? Who created those metrics? And will chasing society’s dream bring self-love? ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
💔 At the heart of it all, I believe that Justin was searching for love. Weighed down by self-loathing pain, his idle search ended in drug use.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Yes, his self-hatred was partially rooted in countless mistakes… Truly, you wouldn’t believe the stories. But what if he was given a second, third, and fourth chance? ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
✨ In this short film, I want to see a young adult who goes down the wrong path pivot onto a healthy one. I want to see a bright future for this character. And in turn, give hope for everyone stuck in the shadow of their mistakes. ​​​​​​​​

In 2009 I was living in Bologna, Italy when my mom called with oddly predictable news👇🏼​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Justin (my now deceased brother) overdosed on opioids for the first time. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
🏈 Crippled from a football accident and wildly delirious, Justin demanded to drive by his old school to reminisce on a lost childhood. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
But even before the drug addiction, parents would warn their children, "Don't hang out with that Jenkins kid!" A warning all too familiar to my dad and his siblings, who were also labeled "bad kids." ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
👿 Naturally, when Justin started using drugs, the good ones (except one true friend) fell away to be replaced by life-sucking vultures from the underworld. For the record, I also avoided Justin. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
🙋🏽‍♀️ But I have a question: why don't we avoid people with eating disorders, anxiety or other ailments? ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
🍭 Growing up, parental figures never told me to avoid Betty because she eats too many sweets or Nancy because she stutters under pressure. Yet, we avoid people that struggle with drug addiction. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
I believe that drug addiction is a disease. A disease that should be treated with proper medical care. But what if this disease is passed down from our ancestors?​​​​​​​​
