We chat to Clare ahead of her concerts (THIS WEEK!) about what you can expect in the programme, her learning process, new commissions, discovering incredible yet little known composers - have you heard of Hélène de Montgeroult?? We hadn’t but she wrote incredible music and has one heck of a back story as you’ll hear 😎

We also discuss the perils of prepared pianos, good/bad venues, Clare’s recent foray into acting - we try to push an idea for Netflix series onto her which we are definitely more enthusiastic about than her!!

Kick starting our new season is the fabulous Oliver Zeffman who we took out and about for a stroll around the streets of London to chat about

This year’s event runs from 3-7 July - this very week!! Events include Classical Drag, a concert involving LGBTQ+ students from all the music colleges and culminating with Oliver making his LSO debut at the Barbican on Sunday 🤩

We had a lovely time chatting to Oliver - as you’ll hear in true TIAB fashion there were various calamities along route but we overcame them and safely delivered him to the BBC for his next appointment (potentially quite a different experience 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏻‍♂️🤣)

We caught up with Ben at his writing room in Air Studios to chat about his incredible musical output - you’ll undoubtedly have heard his music if you’ve turned your TV on over the last twenty years including scores for Torchwood, Thunderbirds, Mog & the incredible Happy Valley to his name…

Amongst other things, we talk about building relationships with musicians over the years, life on either side of the desk as both conductor & composer, knowing when to switch off and the perils of a grumbling stomach 😱

N.B last year Ben wrote the string arrangements for The Beatles’ final single ‘Now and Then’…did we get round to asking him about it? We did not. Come back for round 2 Ben?!

🚨Crisis at ENO 🚨

In light of recent announcements of redundancies in the Orchestra and Chorus at ENO we felt compelled to record an episode to chat through what on earth is going on….

We collar violinist on the train to Edinburgh to discuss ENO, Northern Ballet and the state of the music industry in general. Not currently the cheeriest of subjects but a very necessary conversation musicians need to be having to support our friends and colleagues.

We met up with Duncan in a very lovely room in the depths of the Barbican to chat about two brilliant concerts he has coming up with featuring Abel Selaocoe and Isabelle Faust….his debut no less!

Duncan also chats about his early musical memories - Casio keyboards, writing and performing his own musical and the inspirational people who spurred him on. He talks about working with Sir Simon Rattle who created a job for him at 😎 and his approach to meeting and building relationships with different orchestras.
