The full list of candidates has been published for the Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner elections on 2 May 2024.

I will be supporting my good friend and colleague David Hancock for Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner.

Whilst he and I agree the position is a waste of tax payers money, and the previous police and fire authority did the same job at a fraction of the cost, we have to work within the democratic structures we are forced into.

If elected, David would use the position to lobby for it to be dissolved. He also understands that the Police and Crime Comissioner is there to hold the leadership at Derbyshire Police to account on behalf of the residents it is suppose to serve, not for it to become a daily photo opportunity, as we have seen in the past.

David will be a police and crime. Commissioner who will pull no punches when it comes to saying what needs to be said to improve the policing across Derbyshire and Derby City.

Transparency in our police force is a cornerstone to it functioning properly. It needs accountability and strong leadership willing to take responsibility when required, otherwise there will never be any real change.

Focus on crime prevention and tackling root causes ✅
Invest funding in more officers out in our communities, instead of expensive buildings ✅
A strong voice representing the communities he serves to change the way the police operate ✅
Being transparent and honest about the issues facing Derbyshire Police ✅
Working with Police forces around the country and adopting policies that are proven to work ✅

Members of a Shirebrook drugs gang who dealt hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of class A drugs in the Derbyshire town have been jailed for a combined total of 45 years.

Thomas Carlisle, who headed up the gang, co-ordinated their activity which saw them handle and distribute huge quantities of co***ne between May 2018 and July 2020.

Officers executed a series of warrants in the town in July 2020 as part of Operation Nelly, a dedicated investigation into the supply of illegal substances.

Co***ne and thousands of pounds worth of cash were found at properties associated with the group and arrests and charges subsequently followed.

The 30-year-old gang leader of Church Drive, Shirebrook who had enjoyed a lavish lifestyle thanks to the proceeds of their activity, appeared at Derby Crown Court for sentencing today (25 August).

He was handed a jail term of 11 years and three months’ imprisonment after admitting conspiracy to supply co***ne, supply of cannabis, money laundering and possession of criminal property.

The remaining members were sentenced as follows, some at earlier hearings, for conspiracy to supply co***ne and other offences as indicated:

•Justin Woodham, 37, of Blackmires Way, Sutton-in-Ashfield – 10 years
•Adam Betts, 33, of Sherwood Drive, Shirebrook – eight years
•Melissa Mikosz, 32, of Church Drive, Shirebrook – seven years and three months with additional offence of money laundering
•Adrian Mohammed, 34, of Queensway, Pilsley – four and a half years
•Georgia Vincent, 23, of The Woodlands, Langwith – four years with additional offence of concealing and converting £25,000 worth of criminal property.

Detective Constable Holloway, officer in the case for Operation Nelly, said:

“The damage that drugs and drug-related crimes cause should not be underestimated; it does not stop with the substance user but extends well beyond to their families and local communities.

“I hope that these sentences show that there are very real consequences for those who choose to deal drugs in Derbyshire and that we will do everything in our power to disrupt your activity.

“We will arrest you, charge you, and put you before the court to answer for the harm you do.”

Officers from the Creswell team assisted officers from the Metropolitan Police last night.

The officers from the Met who form part of the national extradition unit had travelled up to Creswell to locate a suspect that was wanted on an international arrest warrant for offences in Portugal.

The male was located at an address in Creswell and was arrested and taken to Ripley Police Station with an onward journey to London booked for this morning.

Local knowledge and information sharing allows the Police forces to work efficiently when tracing criminals from other countries.

❌ Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Devolution bid ❌

Another level of bureaucracy, a tax raising authority and a tonne of money about to be wasted on elections and offices.

Only thing stopping more money coming into the region to local Councils is government policy, this is all an unnecessary vanity project.

Counties are failing right now to provide infrastructure to smaller towns and villages, this is only going to make things worse as they plough all the resources into the cities and large towns.

We need proper devolution that puts money into things right on our doorstep, not this half-baked idea.
