Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) College of Allied Medicine (CAM) celebrated the 129th anniversary of World Radiologic Technology Day on November 13, 2024, honoring the discovery of X-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895.

This yearโ€™s event theme, โ€œNavigating the Spectrum: Integrating Wavelengths of Innovation and Motivation in Radiologic Technology,โ€ brought together students, faculty, and professionals to acknowledge the advancements and significant contributions of the Radiologic Technology field.

Moreover, the guest lecturer Mr. Laissez Amiell "LA" A. Lambon, RRT, MSRT, emphasized the critical role of innovation and motivation in shaping the future of radiologic technology as a profession.

"Navigating through the spectrum of radiologic technology means embracing innovation as our compass and motivation as our fuel, charting a course toward a brighter, healthier future,โ€ Lambon said.

At the same time, the living gallery exhibit, titled โ€œTo See the Unseenโ€ curated by selected Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology students, was displayed at the campus gazebo offering the public a creative exploration of the unseen world of radiology through educational and artistic presentations.

Faculty members, along with clinical instructors and professors explored the history, development, and innovations surrounding the discovery of X-ray and the ongoing progress in radiologic technology.

The program also featured a quiz bee competition where students were divided into six teams named Sims, Erect, Trendelenburg, Fowler, Supine, and Lithotomy, in which the team Lithotomy emerged as the quiz bee champions.

Following the quiz bee, the celebration continued with team-building games, including a flag and yell competition where they presented their creative cheers and banners, leading to a fun-filled and energetic atmosphere.

The day ended in an awarding ceremony, where Fowler was declared as the overall competition winner.

At the end of the program, Mr. Arnie M. Ytac, RRT, MSRT, Assistant Professor III, delivered the closing remarks, expressing his gratitude to the students and faculty who contributed to the success of the event. The program concluded with a lively post-event party, where students celebrated their achievements and the significance of World Radiologic Technology Day.

Laloโ€™t-higit, wag kalilimutang ipadama ang ating laging paalalaโ€ฆSWEET LOVE:

Illuminating Health from the Inside Out: The Unsung Heroes of Radiologic Technology

The beauty lies from within.
As we navigate through the intricate beauty of the medical field, there lies the silent guides of healthcare. The existence of radiologic technologists still remains unknown to many even after years of service to the healthcare industry. Unbeknownst to most is that behind these closed doors, there are radiologic technology professionals helping the whole community through diagnostic imagingโ€”reducing the need for invasive procedures and surgeries, detecting diseases and abnormalities earlier. Every November 8, as we celebrate World Radiography Day, we commemorate the perseverance and service of these individualsโ€”the deliverance of quality healthcare to patients, enabling us to see the unseen. The beauty from within.

RadTechs skillfully use advanced machinery to create precise, high-quality images that support the diagnosis, treatment, and overall well-being of patients. From X-rays to MRIs, their knowledge sheds light on the inner mechanisms of our bodies, assisting doctors and patients equally. The President of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists emphasizes that radiologic technologists are crucial members of the healthcare team. "We take pride in acknowledging their commitment and skill."

In addition to their technological skills, RadTechs bring empathy and warmth to their job. They offer support to nervous patients, clarify procedures, and offer comfort during times of uncertainty. Their influence reaches further than just the imaging room, impacting lives and families as they tackle through their everyday work. As professionals belonging to allied medicine, their abilities and contributions are worthy enough to be recognized and celebrated, just like the other medical professions. They deliver the utmost care to the patients through black and white images, illuminating the hope for prognosis, early diagnosis, and treatment โ€”giving the patients a chance to live a healthier life, free from any undiagnosed disorder and diseases.

This year, with the theme โ€œNavigating the Spectrum: Integrating Wavelengths of Innovation and Motivation in Radiologic Technologyโ€, together let's celebrate the impressive contribution of radiologic technologists, shedding light on health from within. We should show our appreciation and recognition for their dedication, expertise, and compassion for they serve us for more than what meets the eye. Radtechsโ€”the irreplaceable eye of medicine.
