This story is like many throughout the Atlanta Missing and Murdered cases where there may be nothing to this story or it may well be linked to the murders and a key to solving the crimes.
The FBI stated that the case had many "lines of Coincidence" such as Georgia plates on the truck, there was a flyer for a NYC vigil march for the Atlanta victims in the truck,the suspect Frankie Edmonds had allegedly abducted a 9 year old black boy and he owned a Husky which hairs of a husky or chow had been found on many of Atlanta victims.
Frankie Edmonds was a 32 year old black man and Vietnam vet who had been a patient at Creedmoor State Hospital and Matteawan State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Some of his neighbors described him as a weird and scary man. They said that he would one day be dressed as a city utility worker and the next he would be dressed as someone from the telephone company. There were mixed stories on if Edmonds had abducted the boy or if the boy was just with him. The stories also stated that he was searching for his girlfriend and that either him or the boy was going door to door knocking and searching for her. The "girlfriend" had actually been a nurse at a prison that Edmonds had been serving time in for a weapons conviction. Edmonds had become infatuated with her and she had to file a harassment complain against him in 1979.
The truck had originally been rented in Atlanta and driven to Miami then rented and driven to NY where it was rented for Edmonds. Publicly Ryder would not release the names of who had rented the truck. Atlanta had several criminal connections to Miami and NY such as the group that Shirley McGill was connected to was said to be transporting children and drugs between Miami and Atlanta. There was also known drug trafficking between Atlanta and both Miami and NY as a local crime boss Charlie Cato was known to be working with crime syndicates in those cities since the early 70's.
In Atlanta, Lee Brown decided that he would not send anyone to investigate or interview the suspect as he would leave it to the FBI. The FBI were not allowed to speak with Edmonds as he was not charged with any federal crimes. They would not state if they considered him a suspect.

Mayor Maynard Jackson ousted his college classmate Reginald Eaves from the position of Public Safety Commissioner and also fired his boyhood friend Capt. A. L. Cardell for this cheating scandal. Once again Eldrin Bell came out unscathed as Mayor Jackson found him clear of any wrong doing. Enter Lee Brown as Public Safety Commissioner. Bell's next scandal would be connected to the 1979 Southeastern Fair which city councilman Arthur Langford also was involved.

Much money was raised and a good bit of havok was created that night as The Ghost Killer, who was claiming to be the killer of Atlanta's children, really did not care for Mr. Davis and was threatening action that night.
More than 30 police officers were on duty inside the show, officers on every corner outside the Civic Center, police helicopters hovering overhead and bomb sniffing dogs were onsite.
Extra police officers were on hand at the OMNI as the Hawks advertised that they were giving away 1,500 basketballs to kids under 14 that came with their parents. Many considered this a questionable promotion.
The Ghost Killer in a letter a few days later stated that Sammy will have caused more harm than good by having the concert.

Exactly one week after Wayne Williams was arrested children began disappearing from a town called Richland just south of Columbus, Ga. Tanya Nix, the first child abducted in Richland, was found tied to a tree in similar fashion as Angel Lenair and Faye Yearby. It was the headline story for the Atlanta Constitution on 12/28/1981 which was the first day of the jury selection for the trial of Wayne Williams. Were there other children in Atlanta that were abducted, killed and found tied to trees in Atlanta?
