Mayor Sally fully supports healthy school lunches, and just lunches generally, at all hours of the day. So remember, kids—eat the rainbow, drink your milk, and give good belly rubs.

We are saddened and heartbroken to hear of the passing of our dear Bertie the Pom, New York City’s Deputy Dog Mayor-Elect. He and his devoted Campaign Momager Kathy were beloved in our community and others, representing the very best of what this project can be and accomplish. We’ll leave to another day what this means for the dog mayor offices; for now, we grieve the loss of our dear friend, public servant, and pawlitical pioneer.

Mayor Sally and the NYC dog mayor election’s founder were proud to have joined Assembly Member Harvey Epstein and Manhattan Commissioner Tricia Shimamura on Monday, to announce an investment into improving Tompkins Square Park Dog Run, Sally’s neighborhood stomping ground.

Mayor Sally is a big suppawter of NYC public spaces—especially for all her furry constituents—and we can’t wait to see what more we can do to suppawt our city and its families!

The Honorary Dog Mayor election was featured on page A1 of today’s New York Times. While several of the humans involved offered their points of view, the candidates themselves offered no comment, evidently remaining unaware any of this happened.

Hear ye, hear ye! Following the concession of Bertram the Pomeranian, Simon the Basset-Cattle Dog officially becomes the 2nd Honorary Dog Mayor of New York City!

While Simon won in polls on our Facebook group and website, Bertie held a substantial lead on our Instagram poll. However, we noticed on the back end many accounts that appeared to be bots that flooded the poll at certain times.

The only course that would’ve fully addressed the problem would’ve been a manual—as in, vote-by-vote—recount of 22,000 Instagram votes to w**d out the spam. The magnanimous Bertram opted not to subject our city and country to such a fraught and laborious process, instead conceding the race to Simon.

With Simon crowned the new Honorary NYC Dog Mayor-elect and Bertram the Deputy Dog Mayor-elect, we could not be more excited to see where our new generation of canine leaders will take our great city! But in the interim, mark your calendars for Sunday, January 19, the date of our Indoguration, to take place on the steps of New York City Hall as it did for our incumbents, Dog Mayor Sally and Deputy Dog Mayor Riley!

Also, we’re heeding our followers’ desire to build out a full administration for Mayor Simon, with former candidates serving in cabinet positions to raising further awareness of the plight of our city’s shelter dogs, among other initiatives.
Finally, from the bottom of our hearts we want to extend our deepest thanks to our followers and audience. This election cycle was challenging, and the positive feedback we’ve received has made it all worthwhile.

Keep an eye on our Instagram, Facebook group, and website for further updates and live events. Congrats again to NYC Dog Mayor-elect Simon the Basset-Cattle Dog!

🚨NYC DOG MAYOR ELECTION UPDATE🚨

For the sake of transparency with our followers we wanted to make you aware of a few things behind the scenes. We’ve noticed on the back end a significant number of bots voting in our Instagram poll; our Facebook group’s settings keep most of them out and our website polls have an extra security feature that prohibits them (for now.)

We’ve parsed the vote throughout the day and will likely have to do so even after voting is completed. We can’t guarantee we’ll have the final results immediately but still wanted our community to know what’s up. Please bear with us— the thousands of dubious Instagram votes can’t be removed in blocs but instead have to be done one by one, by our crack team of election monitors consisting of one dude with a day job.

We still encourage everyone to get out the vote for their favorite canine-didate, and we look forward to crowning the next Dog Mayor and Deputy Dog Mayor of New York City. Bark the vote!

NYC Dog Mayor Campaign Spotlight: Simon the Basset-Cattle Dog!

Neighborhood: Upper West Side, Manhattan

Slogan: Adopt a Brighter Future

Bio: Simon and his big ears arrived in The Big Apple in 2021 thanks to Hearts & Bones Rescue in Texas. He was adopted by his foster mom, Sophie, and now resides on the Upper West Side where he enjoys long walks in Riverside Park, hosting friends and fosters, and keeping his mom’s writing assignments on schedule. Simon is running on a platform to promote pet adoption throughout the five boroughs to help more one-of-a-kind dogs like him find their forever homes in New York City.

Hi folks— After a difficult few days we wanted to share a message of unity, positivity, and optimism with our followers.

From the start, the Honorary NYC Dog Mayor platform has foremost been one of love, respect, and acceptance. Nothing in the way of hate or violence against anyone is ever considered okay to us. This is particularly true of abhorrently negative comments directed towards one of our former candidates, regardless of who made such comments or where they originated. Mayor Sally and Deputy Mayor Riley don’t engage in that sort of speech, and neither do we.

Following the recent comments and the drama surrounding ancillary crypto interests —and indeed, in a time of such uncertainty, negativity, and occasional despair—we want to reiterate our mission to our followers: To provide a fun, light-hearted, hilarious environment to which people can escape the troubles of the world and bask in what things might look like if loving pups were running things, all the while advocating for pet rescue, adoption, and other initiatives most people would consider worthwhile.

As we near the end of Mayor Sally and Deputy Mayor Riley’s tenure in office, we’re as committed as ever to making this a space for love, for both doggos and humans. There may be ups and downs but one thing’s for sure—no matter how bad things may ever get, the world will never be so good or so bad that it can’t be made better by showing each other the kind of love that our pups show us.

Signed,
Mayor Sally, Deputy Mayor Riley, and the entire NYC Dog Mayor team🐾🐾

You may have heard shelters are overflowing right now, and NYCACC is no exception. They need all the help they can get so we hope if you’re looking for a new furry friend, you’ll give your local center a call!

(Seriously though, please also vote today like your pup’s future depends on it🐶)

🚨Breaking Dog Politics News Alert🚨

Enzo the Shih Tzu has decided to withdraw from the race for Honorary NYC Dog Mayor, citing the support of Bertram’s crypto followers. We were sorry to see him go and were hoping to resolve the situation but we understand folks reach different conclusions on how to proceed. In his place, Simon the Basset-Cattle Dog will run in the final round, which will occur on Monday, Nov. 11!

Re: Bertie’s crypto following: We’re a neutral organization and don’t support individual candidates over others, nor do we support any ancillary financial interests associated with the individual candidates. We have literally zero financial interest in this at all, outside of trying to bring joy to the world and getting more puppies adopted.

We don’t condone negativity directed towards anyone, canine or human, and do not support anyone trying to buy or pay for votes. That said, we can’t moderate every conversation on the internet, can’t control whether people in the global crypto marketplace organize for a candidate for dog mayor, and can’t dictate each person’s motivations for casting their vote for a given candidate. We couldn’t disqualify Bertie just because he was supported by some folks who aren’t associated with him or his owner.

So to clear up any misconceptions, we want to reemphasize our basic rules— It isn’t illegal or disqualifying for a candidate to be endorsed by outside groups of people. If anything, we welcome positive support and enthusiasm from folks of any community. The operative word being “positive.”) If folks want to support a candidate and see positive, effective ways to do so, go for it!

We’re as committed as ever to making ours a fun, inclusive, negativity-free election. We hope you to stick with us, as we still expect many great things in the coming months and years, from our incredible candidates Simon and Bertie, and our wonderful community we’ve built over the last few years. Bark the vote!

Last night featured the first meeting between New York’s two most iconic and visionary political titans, Bertie the Pomeranian and Enzo the Shih Tzu, whose community standing belies their tiny stature. We’re so grateful to Bertram’s owner Kathy for generously opening her SoHo gallery The Hole to us and our visitors, and to all the constituents who came out to show love to their favorite canine-didates.

With the winner of the final round to be crowned Honorary NYC Dog Mayor and the runner-up crowned Deputy Dog Mayor, we expect this dynamic duo to achieve great things in the coming years.

Tune in next Monday 11/4 from midnight to 11:59pm for the final round of voting, which takes place in polls on our Instagram Stories, our Facebook Group, and our website. And thank you again to all our followers—the reception we’ve received both on social media and in person makes our elections worthwhile😊🐶

🚨 We need your support! 🚨

The Honorary NYC Dog Mayor elections have always been a labor of love. It’s in that spirit we hope you’ll help us cover the mounting bills that our elections and activities cost to maintain, by contributing to our GoFundMe. We’ve opened up our books here via screenshots of our bills for website hosting full transparency.

The domain and our website were already eating up a chunk of our budget; then, with our having shifted to SurveyMonkey polls instead of Twitter polls—the latter of which didn’t offer our desired transparency—our costs then increased dramatically. This is in addition to the many live events and fees we’ve covered since launching our elections in 2022, and our legal fees as we pursue nonprofit accreditation.

As we’ve noted before, we are a very small team with our founder serving as an angel investor—the same person that this month paid for an autopsy and funeral services for the beloved woman who was this project’s guiding light. [Disclaimer—all funds collected will go to support the growth and maintenance of our institution.]

We hope you’ll lend us your support, as we want to keep this labor of love going for many years to come. You can find the link to our GoFundMe in our bio. We truly appreciate our community’s devotion to making pawlitics fun and look forward to closing this election season strong!
