Press Release
Date - 20/11/2024

Since the formation of the SKM Government under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), all communities in Sikkim have witnessed exponential growth and unshakable unity. The culture, tradition, and heritage of all communities in Sikkim are being well-preserved and protected. The State-Level Sakewa Celebration 2024 at Tathang Ground, under the Yuksam Tashiding Constituency, Gyalshing District attended by the Honourable Chief Minister, is a testament to the SKM Government’s commitment to protecting, preserving, and promoting tradition and culture.

Celebrating Sakewa at Tathang has a multifaceted approach and benefits, as it directly and indirectly uplifts the local people while also safeguarding tangible and intangible cultural elements.

Before the SKM Government came to power, the different communities in Sikkim were fragmented, with an intentionally created environment of doubt and mistrust. Communities were often treated as mere vote banks. Communities and the people were politicised. However, since the SKM Government assumed leadership, these communities have been woven together like a garland of flowers, uniting the entire Sikkimese society. Now the community organisations are completely apolitical and have the liberty to choose their leaders . Such kind of liberty and freedom has been possible only under the SKM Government.

Uniting all the communities of Sikkim remains one of the most important objectives of the SKM Government. Sakewa and many other festivals of different communities has been celebrated in various corners of the state, ensuring inclusivity wherever people reside. It is unprecedented for the Head of State to visit such diverse and remote corners of the state to celebrate festivals alongside the people. Celebrating different festivals fosters social cohesion, bringing together people from various backgrounds. Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Party extends heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Chief Minister for always remaining steadfast in uniting the different communities of Sikkim and protecting their traditions and culture.

SKM also welcomes the recent government notification notifying ‘Ubhauli’ as a restricted holiday. This initiative will further enhance efforts to protect and preserve the rich heritage and culture of the Kirat Khambu Rai community.

SKM also expresses gratitude for the pro people announcements made by the Honorable Chief Minister during the State Level Sakewa 2024, one of the most important being the construction of ‘Rai Khim’ under Gyalshing District. It will have multipurpose use for the Kirat Khambu Rai’s of Gyalshing district.

Sikkim Krantikari Morcha Party under the leadership of Honorable Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) remains steadfast in preserving and promoting the rich heritage of all the communities of Sikkim.
