Good mental health is like a recipe with several key ingredients. Here are some basic ones:
Self-care: Prioritize activities that promote your well-being, such as regular exercise, sufficient sleep, healthy eating, and relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing exercises.
Connection: Foster meaningful relationships with friends, family, and supportive individuals who uplift and understand you. Human connection is essential for emotional well-being.
Purpose: Engage in activities that give you a sense of purpose and fulfillment, whether it's through work, hobbies, volunteering, or creative pursuits. Having goals to work towards can provide a sense of meaning and direction in life.
Balance: Strive for balance in all aspects of your life, including work, leisure, relationships, and personal time. Avoiding extremes and finding a harmonious equilibrium can contribute to overall mental well-being.
Boundaries: Set healthy boundaries to protect your mental and emotional health. Learn to say no to things that drain your energy or cause unnecessary stress, and prioritize activities and relationships that bring you joy and fulfillment.
Mindfulness: Cultivate mindfulness and awareness of the present moment. Practice techniques like mindfulness meditation to help you stay grounded, reduce stress, and enhance self-awareness.
Learning and Growth: Be open to learning and personal growth. Embrace challenges as opportunities for self-improvement and resilience-building, and seek out experiences that expand your horizons and deepen your understanding of yourself and the world around you.
Professional Support: Don't hesitate to seek professional help if you're struggling with your mental health. Therapists, counselors, and mental health professionals can provide guidance, support, and treatment options tailored to your individual needs.
Remember, everyone's recipe for good mental health may look a little different, so it's important to find what works best for you

A Day Late- Fibromyalgia Awareness Day was May 12th
Today marks Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, a day close to my heart as it symbolizes both struggle and resilience, pain and hope. It was October of 2020 when I received the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, a condition that entered my life unexpectedly, like an unwelcome guest disrupting the tranquility of my existence. It wasn't a gradual realization; rather, it came crashing down on me like a tidal wave after a traumatic kidney stone event. In an instant, everything changed.
The diagnosis felt like a death sentence for my active lifestyle. I thought I'd never hike through lush forests or camp under the starlit sky again. The pain was relentless, engulfing me in its fiery grip, leaving me feeling powerless and defeated. I was in the throes of the worst state of Fibromyalgia, where every movement was agonizing, every day a battle against my own body.
But what I've come to understand is that Fibromyalgia is as diverse as the individuals who live with it. Each person's journey is unique, their experiences varied. For some, the symptoms are so severe that even the simplest tasks become Herculean feats, while others may find solace in treatment options that offer some semblance of relief. And then there are those who struggle tirelessly, searching for a remedy that remains elusive, a flickering hope in the darkness of their pain.
To anyone living with Fibromyalgia, I want you to know this: your pain is valid. Your struggles are real. It's easy to feel invalidated when others don't understand the depths of your suffering, when they dismiss it as mere exaggeration or overlook it altogether. But I'm here to tell you that your pain is real, and your journey is valid. You are not defined by your illness; you are defined by your strength, your resilience, and your unwavering determination to keep fighting, day in and day out.
On this Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, let's come together as a community to shed light on this often misunde
Amidst life's hustle and bustle, remember: it's perfectly okay to hit pause and prioritize your mental health.
Taking breaks isn't a sign of weakness; it's a testament to self-awareness and self-care. Whether it's a moment to breathe deeply, a walk in nature, or simply giving yourself permission to rest, these acts of kindness to yourself are essential for maintaining well-being.
In a world that often glorifies busyness, let's normalize the importance of slowing down and checking in with ourselves. By acknowledging our needs and honoring our limits, we not only foster resilience but also cultivate a deeper sense of compassion for ourselves and others.
So, if you're feeling overwhelmed or exhausted, know that it's okay to step back, recharge, and prioritize your mental health. Remember, you are deserving of care, compassion, and grace.
Let's embrace the power of self-care and remind ourselves that taking care of our mental health is not only important but also necessary for leading fulfilling lives. Here's to honoring our well-being, one moment of self-care at a time. π
