What’s good?
Hope you are cool, taking care of yourself and family.
I am just chilling in the studio at the moment, and something just hit me so I thought I should just shoot you a quick email.
back when I was a novice mixing engineer. I dreamed of mixing songs that would hit hard just like what i was hearing on the radio
But there was a problem.
More times than the other, I was always annoyed with the loudness of my mixes.
No matter what I did, my mixes would not sound as loud as the commercial records.
so one day I just started messing around with the EQ filters on my Mixbuss.
I discovered that if I put an EQ on my Mixbuss, add a high pass filter and a low pass filter.
I can take out all the unnecessary frequencies that most playback systems don’t need
and I can have more room to raise the loudness ceiling of my song
So I decided to experiment with the idea until I fine-tune it.
I felt like I was breaking the rules of recording and mixing which made me feel uneasy like I was committing a sin.
After all, I had put in a lot of work to learn to become an engineer.
and I needed to know that I’m not wasting my time here.
trying to do something that only the chosen ones can do. So I needed a win, no matter how small
From messing around with the filters trying to strike a balance.
I figured that if I add a high pass filter at 30hz and a low pass filter at 18khz.
the mix will still sound natural and I have gained more headroom for my mix to be louder.
So go ahead and give that simple trick a try on your Mixbuss and see it gain more headroom for your mix.
