Lately it seems every day is met with a set of challenges. COVID screeners, shuffling off to daycare, school, Google Classroom, practice- is it on or is not, game no game are just to name a few “triggers” (apparently this is a new word amongst 13 year olds).
Often, it’s hard to dig deep and find what we are grateful for. This morning, I dug deep into my sock drawer and found these amazing socks. Not only am I super grateful to have found them but for who gave them to me as well.
But, this morning I dug deeper (not into the sock drawer because it’s not THAT deep), I realize I am grateful to be able to teach our nation’s history to young minds, who keep me young and “hip”.
I didn’t stop digging there. As I am about to to go vote, I realize how grateful I am that I can vote. Yes I have my health, yes I have enough energy to drag myself out of bed (well that’s questionable), and yes I can withstand standing in line. BUT I’m grateful that 100 years ago some bad a** women fought for the women’s right to vote. Finally in 1920, during a World War, women got the job done. The 19th amendment was passed. Women all over knew this meant they were done being treated as inferior to men. They knew their vote was a vote for so much more. It was a vote to earn respect, voice our opinions and eventually be taken seriously in the work place.
Today, as a woman and a mom, I am grateful that I can vote. Thanks Alice Paul, Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott (list goes on) for all the tireless hours, months, decades you put into that fight to pass the 19th amendment. If you can accomplish that, WE can get through 2020 and really anything else that may get in our way.
Mommas everywhere go out and vote. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
