Brand X without Zironar. Lot of yellow patches and uneven beans-likely soybean nematodes. This field had no Zironar on it. Notice the company sold him a thin line for 30” rows-huge mistake! Next pictures are of beans for 30” rows and had Zironar.

Walking some Corteva breeding. Northern is normal is most of their genetics-why they recommend fungicides.

Walked corn fields in East Central and South Western areas of Huntington county. Very little to no disease. Friend from Millersburg sent pictures of Tar Spot hitting that area hard right now.

Walked corn fields in Alien county & Adams today. Saw very little disease. Tomorrow Huntington county.

Placed Avodigen & Consensus on seed. Thicker stem & pith but very little root mass difference. Did see grey in non treated. None in treated. Great news-no insect feeding on roots.

Yesterday, I walked corn near South Whitley. Think I found early Tar Spot. Purdue says they identified it at their farm at Columbia City. There is a HUGE difference in companies. I walked a field of an Internet sold seed, it was 3’ tall and loaded with grey already. Once again, the usual suspects had diseases in them while some did not. I will stay off my soap box of why buy quality rather than save a few bucks per acre on seed.

Tar Spot map run by Purdue shows Tar Spot as close as Grant county. Starting to walk fields today. None found-so far. Did see grey & eye spot. If u have a field that is second year corn, send me location.

Will post yield map later but we saw a yield response to copper in wheat. First, it was Avodigen & Terramar that helped. Now we are adding copper/Black Label zinc to mix. Timing is one of the keys.

23/06/2024

Wheat yields are not as good as 2023. No surprise since the 90+ degrees killed the wheat 10-14 days earlier which stopped kernel fill. Looking like the earlier varieties are better than the mids since the early varieties started filling sooner & all died together. So far in our area, lo toxin levels. Evansville and parts of Kentucky are not as fortunate.

Don’t think seed depth is important? Same hybrid planted at 1” vs 1.5”. I’m bad at photography but 1.5” planted is 1-2” taller, much thicker stalk and better color.

One on far left has some extra products-about $10/acre or less-vs just normal, good products. The 2 on right came from fields that will be above normal yields. It will be interesting to see yield differences as independent crop advisor said the kernels on the far left were larger and filled out to end of head. We know there is a much improved root system below far left.

What I noticed was more even head size and better root structure with Avodigen. When combined with Consensus on seed and later application of Terramar even better size & uniformity of heads along with a much better root system.

We are working on finding better wheat genetics for our area with plots and different new applications to improve cultural practices. This year, we have added Copper and black label zince to practices along with a growth regulator from Syngenta. Results to follow.

Great picture of army worms. Check any crops that are up. Wheat being #1.

FYI. Learned yesterday anything planted on western side of Indiana on Mother’s Day is being looked at for replant. Every year, corn planted on Mother’s Day is stressed at best or torn up & replanted.

24/05/2024

Got a large corn plot in today. Not just different hybrids but a different seed treatment as well as a different use of the 2X2. Thanks to Joe Thompson & 2 Brevant reps-Jack Garner & Elexie Gardner. Also Jake brought some new hybrids I wanted to see.

Next up after rains, bean plot looking at a bunch of new ideas. I’m jacked for that. Although my body reminds me that I’m not 25 anymore more.

Have to remember Satchel Paige’s quote.

21/05/2024

FYI, it does not bother me that you call me on my cell phone whether at work or home. That is why I gave you my number. Actually it’s an honor that anyone believes I know something worth asking me. If it’s a bad time for me, I won’t pick up. So, call or text away

18/05/2024

I’m being asked, so here is my “official” opinion on whether to plant when field is 90% ready. GO! It’s acting a little like 2019 when 90% was as good as it got. With rain being every 5-6 days, it will be hard to get to perfect.

11/05/2024

FYI, we are starting to see farmers in area switch from corn acres to soybeans. No, it will not affect the national commodity price but may have an effect on spot local prices because we have so much livestock.
Crazy year because south of Warren, some farmers are done planting corn while other areas are a week away if it doesn’t rain. Of course, rain is in forecast.

Got the copper on a little late but interesting effect on wheat heads. 2 on left had copper. The right one didn’t. Later I will post pix of
Root systems of wheat seed treated with Avodigen and Consensus. They are currently soaking in water to loosen clay from roots.

Something to consider. We will have a later planting window & if Weathertrend360 is correct with a shorter growing season, this crop needs no set backs. Consider a couple of FMC products that prevent early diseases from slowing down plant development. Over 2 years we’ve seen +5 bushels on beans and +10 on corn. Any questions, call or text.

02/05/2024

With planting time looking like it will be later in May, now is a good time to look at projected corn hybrids. Based on last year, 5/20 planting area, 100-109 averaged +20 bushel more, +2 # TW & 2 points drier harvested 2 weeks earlier than 110-114 day hybrids. If you want to visit about this, my phone number hasn’t changed.

It’s been a bad 8 days. Starting with the loss of a gentle man at work to competitors basically calling me a liar. I’ve had good friends in the industry contact me asking what can they do to help. I will remember their kindness.

Management has promised all the help and more to service our accounts. This started last week.

Those that I’ve worked with over the years, I appreciate your willingness to allow us to re-group.

To those who are fortunate enough to not know me, I will visit with you to explain the plan moving forward.

While 3 friends paid a price for a bad decision, it has allowed me to see those that are willing to support me. To you, word cannot express my gratitude of having you in my life.

08/04/2024

Please be very careful this spring. It only takes a split second for an accident. One very nice gentleman lost his life. If it’s dangerous, re-think whether it needs to be done. If yes, consider the safest way to do it.

21/03/2024

Next Wednesday’s Nutrien meeting at Warren. Starts at 10:30 with lunch at noon. The topics will be proven ways to increase soybean yields. He has been working on several methods.
