There have been a lot of illustrations to go along with James and the Giant Peach over the years, but my favorite by far are the Quentin Blake ones. So delightfully sketchy and strange. Our Season Two finale episode on this book is out on all the podcast places! (At least the ones that are left… they are dropping like flies, sadly.)

Some of the illustrations from the original run of “Meet Samantha,” there was also a second round of illustrations later on, and then in the most recent repackage there were no illustrations at all, which I feel was definitely a bad call. Now that both of the hosts have moved halfway across the country, we have caught up on editing and the rest of season two is scheduled for release!

Tomorrow we have a Wren pick, the Terry Brooks series that is not the one folks usually think of first, and then two weeks after that is an absolutely wild Brandon pick.

One of my favorite things about reading the older books we have read is getting to go back and explore all of the various covers the book has had. I read the most recent green one with the bug in the crosshairs, but I definitely would have given the side eye to the really fascist looking one had I seen it in stores at the time. I guess there is something to that old “judging books by their covers” idiom. Haha.
