In the world of advertising, it’s challenging to come up with something completely unique — millions of ideas have already been realized. Even when searching for references, you might come across videos similar to your concept. Besides recurring themes, a common issue is low effectiveness.

So, how do you create successful advertising?

1. Analyze your target audience. For your ad to truly resonate, you need to understand what matters to your target audience. For instance, a vibrant and dynamic video might not suit an older demographic, while dull colors and adult actors may not work for children’s products.

If your product isn’t in the luxury segment, avoid showcasing characters with expensive accessories. Your viewers should easily relate to the characters in the ad.

2. Maximum connectivity between client and production studio. To successfully execute an advertising project, a clear technical brief is essential for both parties. The client should provide clear requirements, while the studio should offer recommendations and ideas for fresh and relevant ex*****on. Working together on the technical brief will ensure a clear understanding of the process and the final result.

3. Choose the right specialists. Even with a great idea and a clear plan, it’s crucial to have professionals working on your ad. Look for not only qualified experts but also those who understand your product’s specifics.

For example, if you need an ad related to football, it’s best to involve someone who genuinely loves football. This will help create a more authentic and engaging portrayal of your product.

Project preparation is a crucial stage where the foundation for successful idea ex*****on is laid.
We start with searching for and analyzing references, which is critical for shaping the visual style and concept.

1. Defining the visual Idea and gathering feferences:
We explore a wide range of sources, including films, cartoons, graphics, and advertisements, to find inspiration. Creating storyboards and generating images through neural networks help us clearly visualize the project's concept.

2. Selecting the color palette:
After defining the visual idea, we choose a color palette that will create the desired mood and harmony in the project.

3. Finding references for each frame:
We don’t limit ourselves to general ideas — each frame requires unique references. This allows us to meticulously work out the details and ensure visual consistency throughout the video.

4. Refining references:
If references need refinement, we use Photoshop or neural networks for adaptation. This helps us perfect elements and accurately align with the project's concept.

These stages help us create a high-quality and visually appealing product, into which we pour all our creativity and attention to detail.

What is a production studio and how to manage It?👇🏻

A production studio is a complex mechanism working in more than 11 directions to create advertising and promotional projects for clients.

As in any business, we have many departments and internal rules. By setting up each department competently, we can achieve our desired results.

A production studio is not only about creativity; a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. When a movie is successful, the producer and director are praised, but without strong departments, their ideas would not be realized. The same is true for our studio.

For long-term success, we need:
• Proper positioning
• Effective management
• Quality advertising
• Clear logistics
• Customized sales operations
• And much more.

We work on several projects simultaneously, handle advertising, set up new processes, and finalize old ones. If you don’t work on each block regularly, the mechanism will stop.

Last month, we managed 7-8 projects simultaneously. This requires a lot of hard work and responsibility. Even with a heavy workload, we need to plan for the future: sign contracts, develop publications, plan media relations, and set tasks for other departments.

The main departments are:
• Project management
• SEO and positioning
• Sales
• Creative department
• SMM
• Advertising and targeting
• Media relations
• Client relations
• Finance
• Technical department
• Legal department

At first glance, it seems simple – «just do it.» But it doesn’t work that way in large companies. You have to scrutinize everything, run focus groups, and conduct analytics – someone has to do that too.

There are months with fewer projects, but the studio’s workload does not decrease. We always plan for innovation, development, and scaling. And this yields results.

The post-project retrospective is an important stage in any team’s work. It is a time to analyze, discuss and improve. We tell you why the retrospective is so important and what main tasks it fulfills.

1. Analyzing mistakes
A retrospective allows you to analyze the completed project in detail, find out what mistakes were made and understand how to avoid them in the future. Discussion helps to see problems from different angles and find the most effective ways to solve them.

2. Recognizing Achievements
A retrospective helps to celebrate the team’s achievements and successes, which helps to motivate and boost morale. Praise plays a key role in creating a positive atmosphere.

3. Process optimization
During the retrospective, we identify weaknesses in work processes and offer ideas for improvement. This can concern both technical aspects and organizational issues.

4. Improving communication
A retrospective improves internal communication by identifying and addressing failures in information transfer. Good communication is key to successful team performance.

A retrospective is a powerful tool for analysis and improvement. It helps you learn from mistakes, recognize achievements, optimize processes and improve communication, making your team more cohesive and effective.

Do you do retrospectives with the team?

The project manager is the key element that ensures the successful ex*****on of the entire project. He makes sure that the project is carried out according to plan, on time and with the right quality. He also organizes the work of the team, solves problems and maintains communication with clients.

Key points in the work of a project manager ->

1/ Communication
The project manager is always on call. He or she must respond promptly to clients and employees, and make sure that no question or comment is missed.

It is important to be able to adjust to other people in order to solve various misunderstandings in the team and with clients.

2/ Responsibility
A project manager is responsible for the entire project, as any mistake of one of the employees is his/her mistake. It is important to understand this, accept it and quickly find solutions to problems.

You also need to be very punctual, otherwise it will be pointless to demand punctuality from the team.

3/ Experience
Extensive visual experience is an important aspect of the job, as the project manager often helps make edits and discusses the visual part of the project with the client.

It is important for a project manager in VFX production to have an understanding of basic technical aspects. This helps improve communication within the team and with clients about edits and deadlines.

1. Why did you choose this particular field?

No movie, cartoon or game is created without characters. They are the ones who attract the maximum attention of the audience.
I wanted to be that person who creates works that can attract the attention of the audience.

2. What do you like most about your job?

I really enjoy watching my animation progress with each interaction I make. It starts to look more “alive”. I always do save animations to determine if it has started to look better, or if I have veered off in the wrong direction.

3. What is the secret to good character animation?

(1) It is important not to be afraid to start over. Animators often strive to create quality animation even if they initially have flaws in the foundation.

(2) Good animation requires a lot of experience and thousands of hours of practice.

4. What is the hardest thing you’ve had to do in your job?

Now it’s difficult for me to convey to the viewer the emotions of the characters, such as in the ITTA project, where I had to convey all the pain of the daughter and father when they were saying goodbye.

5. What animated movies or TV series have had the biggest influence on your style?

The movie «Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” inspired me a lot. I would like to strive for the same quality of animation in my works.

6. What advice do you have for an aspiring character animator?

I would recommend identifying what it is about the animation industry that you enjoy most, and then finding someone who has been in the field for a while so they can teach you the craft.
Without feedback, the road to accomplishment can be a very long one.

7. Share a random fact about yourself)

I like to add fun details to animations that don’t make it into the frame. I hope this brings a smile to the people I give these animations to :)

At some point, the number of edits may exceed all reasonable limits, and you will find yourself caught in an endless stream of additional requests and changes.

Our tips on how to avoid this👇🏻

1. Make sure you clearly understand the client’s requirements.
2. Explain the work process and the opportunity to influence the outcome.
3. Document your approach in the contract.
4. Agree each step of the work and put it in writing.

11/04/2024

There is a common misconception that working with studios is more expensive than working with individual artists. However, this is not always the case. We offer a range of benefits that can be important to the success of a project.

Even at the planning stage, we take into account all aspects of the project and offer the best possible solutions, adapting to the client’s budget and needs.

We also have a well-developed quality control and project management system, which helps prevent problems and delays in completing tasks, and subsequently additional costs on the part of the client.

Of course, the cost of a project can depend on many factors, including its scope, complexity and quality requirements. However, in most cases we offer competitive prices and various cooperation options.

04/04/2024

In our recent works we actively use character animation, and this is no accident. That’s why our clients are increasingly requesting to create videos with character animation:

1. Characters have a unique ability to attract attention and be remembered better than simple objects.
2. Animated characters open up limitless possibilities for the realization of non-standard and creative concepts.
3. Characters can best convey emotions and feelings, allowing you to create a deep emotional connection with your audience.
4. They effectively help illustrate complex concepts or ideas, making them more accessible and understandable to a wide audience.
5. Unique characters can be a key element of branding, increasing brand recognition among the audience.

Thus, character animation not only makes videos more interesting and appealing, but also significantly improves the effectiveness of the content as a whole, increasing audience engagement and brand awareness.

1. Why did you choose this particular field?

It all started in school, my friend had a gaming channel with 3 subscribers, so we thought it would be great idea to make some flashy intro for this legendary channel. That’s how I got to Cinema 4D and it became that kind of hobby to which you return once in a while. Later I learned After Effects and it became my main software and 2D motion graphics my main speciality.

2. What do you like most about your job?

Particularly in AE I really like expressions, they let you create dependencies and systems that move many objects with a single parameter. But it’s important to not overcomplicate things even further :)

3. What is the hardest thing you’ve had to do in your job?

Honestly, I’m such a slowpoke when starting a new project, so I guess in every project the most difficult thing for me is to actually start.

4. What style do you like to work in the most?

Mixing 2D aesthetics and 3D graphics. I appreciate more stylized than realistic approach. Personally I like a lot style of Arcane and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. I really wish someday to bulk up my skills to be able to work on projects with similar style, could it be motion picture, trailer, some ad or even game.

5. Your favorite project at [squád]?

I think any project where we worked as a whole team, it really feels like you part of this team and inspires you.

6. What advice can you give to an aspiring motion designer?

Seek new horizons and push your ideas and imagination to next level, but also be aware of your mental health, it’s no joke. None of it would matter if in the end you’ll end up being burnt-out, broken person. Take your rest, seek balance, spend time with people you love and your inspiration will naturally grow even further.

7. Share a random fact about yourself)

I’m a huge enjoyer of lego to an extent that I barely manage to not spend my last savings for some new cool set.

I’m a huge metalhead, I really enjoy melodic metalcore and sometimes I dream about learning guitar and starting a band or musical project. Sometimes this kind of music helps A LOT to get things done.

1. The position «I am a client - you are a performer»

The unique interaction between our studio and our clients is the art of partnership, where we don’t just fulfill orders, but co-create VFX videos. Instead of seeing us as mere performers, we invite each client to a collaboration where both parties actively influence the outcome.

2. Approval of only the end result by the head of the company

Instead of aiming for an instant «wow effect», we insist on a step-by-step process involving many iterations and adjustments. This is the only way we ensure that every detail of the project meets the client’s expectations and goals.

3. Budget is a key factor in choosing a contractor

We believe that high-quality VFX videos are the result of not only professional labor, but also the joint efforts of a team of specialists. Prices for services can vary greatly between individual freelancers and studios. For small projects, turning to a single specialist may be acceptable, but for large projects, this approach can lead to poor quality and the risk of failure of the entire project.

Our approach to work helps us avoid these mistakes. We divide the process into pre-production, production and post-production, where the client becomes our partner, actively participating in each stage. In this way, we reduce the risk of misunderstandings and turn the client’s dreams into reality, avoiding the «expectation-reality» effect.

1. Why did you choose this particular field?

It all happened naturally. I liked drawing since I was little, then I joined drawing clubs and went to art school. When I started university, during my first year of studying architecture, I realized it wasn’t for me. So, I started looking for more creative courses and found one on 3D motion design. And now, here I am 😉

2. What do you like most about your job?

The sound of money being transferred to my card😅 But in general I like to play with textures and lighting to create eye-catching visuals. Previously, this was my least favorite part of the job, because it was difficult for me.

3. What do you think is the most important thing about your job?

Communicate with the client, discuss everything in detail at the beginning to minimize edits. Well, as a result, the work should bring benefit to the client, and be beautiful.

4. What style do you like to work in the most?

Most in cartoon style, least in realistic style. I also make VFX videos and lately I like adding 3D cartoon animations and objects to real video.

5. Your favorite project at [squád]?

Of course a music video for Kalush. Everything happened perfectly there. Cartoon style, cool characters and almost no edits)

6. What advice can you give to an aspiring motion designer?

Add more complete projects to your portfolio, check out what others are doing, and remember to do warm-up exercises.

7. Share a random fact about yourself)

- I love exploring nature, going on hikes, and eat food while watching the sunset.
- I spent four years studying to become an architect, but I ended up never working in this field.
- Cats and croissants hold a special place in my heart.

Not sure how to choose a production company? Here are some tips on what to look out for.

[The carousel provides examples of responses that can serve as red flags when communicating with a video production studio]

1. Always study the studio’s portfolio to assess the visual style and technical skills. Make sure they meet your expectations and visual preferences.

2. Pay attention to deadline and budget guarantees. Their absence can be a red flag, especially if the studio doesn’t offer more specific details. This can create uncertainty and lead to potential problems.

3. Learn how production treats making changes to a project. The studio’s refusal to make changes to the project shows the studio’s lack of flexibility and can lead to client dissatisfaction.

4. Requiring 100% prepayment before the project starts can create financial risk for the client, lack of incentive for the studio and create distrust.

5. If the studio does not emphasize the importance of detailing tasks and understanding expectations, this should alert you. Lack of a clear strategy can lead to misunderstandings.

6. Pay attention to whether the studio provides specific methods for controlling budget and deadlines. Lack of clear strategies may indicate a lack of professionalism.

7. If the studio doesn’t provide specific information about their additional services and doesn’t emphasize their ability to provide them, it can cause difficulties as the project progresses.

Remember, choosing a 3D video creation partner is not only a strategic decision, but also an investment in the quality and visual impact of your brand.

Trends in 3D Motion Graphics expected in 2024:

1. Artificial Intelligence

The trend of AI implementation in 3D motion videos is driven by several factors. First, automation and optimization of processes in animation creation with AI speeds up and simplifies work. Second, AI can improve animation quality by making movements more natural and realistic.

Also, personalizing content, analyzing viewers' preferences, and saving time and resources are important factors.

2. Hyperrealism
Creating realistic graphics and surprising the viewer is becoming easier as technology and software are actively evolving.

The growing popularity of 3D tools such as Unreal Engine 5 and Blender, as well as several recently released features, have taken these capabilities to the next level.

3. Motion graphics on websites and apps
Motion graphics on websites and apps are becoming one of the elements to keep the attention of the audience.

Viewers are given the opportunity to interact with the content, which creates a unique and memorable experience, strengthening the connection with the brand or platform.

4. Augmented Reality (AR)
Augmented reality is becoming more accessible, creating a demand for content in motion design with elements of animation in space and interactive interaction.

5. Nostalgia
We all experience nostalgia for style, music, fashion, or cultural elements of the past and often perceive them as more authentic or pure compared to modern trends.

Such memories shape personal identity and serve as motivation to stay connected to the past.

How do we create videos?

We’ve already touched on the stages of video creation in the post about roadmap, but today we want to talk about it in more detail.

1. Concept and script.
We get acquainted with the client’s idea and task, and then write a script, or adapt the client’s script, select references, and generate future shots in Midjourney (we talked about this in detail earlier).

2. Layout (animatic)
Then we fully assemble the scene: arrange objects and animate them, customize camera animation, make draft lighting.

If there are characters in the clip, at this stage we do character animation.

At this stage the picture looks gray, since there are no textures in the clip yet.

3. Lookdev
At the lookdev stage we customize textures in scenes, finalize lighting and render the clip in low quality to confirm everything with the client.

4. Final render
After approving the lookdev stage with the client, we proceed to the final render. Parallel to the final render, the sound design of the video can be carried out.

5. Compositing
We put the final touches to the project, make color correction, add effects that will improve the video.

Depending on the complexity of the video, some stages may include additional tasks, but the basis is always the same.

1. Why did you choose this field and profession?
Since I was a kid, I really liked to watch movies where there were 3D graphics and special effects, such as “Transformers”, “Toy Story”. I really admired it and for me it seemed something incredible, impossible.

So I started to explore the field of simple video editing, and then I got into 3D, and now I realized that I can do the same graphics myself.

2. What is the main thing in your work?
The main thing in my work is to make beautiful, and also - to catch the viewer’s attention so that he wants to watch your video to the end and he can say: “Wow, I want to watch it again!”.

3. In what style do you like to work the most?
Realism. Because this way you can convey more different details. Although it is more difficult, because you need to refine the picture so that it was like in real life, and take into account many aspects, but the result is worth it.

4. Your favorite project in [squád]?
The social project I liked most of all was the one for ITTA about the military mobile hospital.

Although it was not commercial, but it is very valuable for supporting Ukraine and its story is based on real events.

It was a pleasure for me to work on this project and I like the result very much.

5. What is your professional goal in 3-5 years ?
To work on more cool and interesting projects to be seen all over the world. To further improve my technical skills in programs as well as soft skills.

And there is a very big desire to work on the project to be shown on the biggest screen in Europe, on the shopping center “Gulliver” in Kyiv.

6. What part of the job takes up the most time and why?
The rendering process, as I have a rather weak laptop, and it can take a large amount of time to render a scene.

Also may appear various noises, bugs, to correct which can take a fair amount of time, and it is not always clear how much).

7. Share random facts about yourself:)
When I was in high school, I did dance for 7 years before I started 3D motion design. And it turned out, as one of our team members said, was an artist – and became a 3D artist:)

12/01/2024

It is important to us to not only deliver high quality results, but also to ensure quality communication during the project ex*****on process. Here are a few of the tools we use to accomplish this goal.

TUTORIAL. At the beginning of a project, we provide clients with a tutorial on how to interact with us. Essentially, it’s analogous to a roadmap, but with a more detailed description of each step of the work and examples. This helps to close a lot of questions from clients, for example, why the picture is gray or with noise.

CALLS. During calls, clients don’t have to worry about important information being missed. Our managers capture all the key points and then send a summary of the call to the chat room so that all the necessary information is at their fingertips. This also helps minimize possible misunderstandings between the client and the performer.

COMMUNICATING IN THE SAME LANGUAGE. We realize that professional slang can be difficult to understand, so we try to explain everything in the simplest possible words to ensure full understanding between us and the client.

FLEXIBILITY. We do not stick to a single scheme of interaction with each client. For some it is important to receive progress reports every week, while others just want to see the results of specific milestones. There are clients who are comfortable having calls to discuss details, while others prefer to communicate in writing. We choose an approach that is convenient for both us and the client.

09/01/2024

A project roadmap is a project management tool that outlines the steps needed to achieve project goals. But it is not only a tool for management and control by the project team, it is also an important communication tool with the client. Here are a few reasons why a roadmap is useful for the client:

Transparency and process understanding: A roadmap provides the client with a transparent view of the project’s progress. This allows the client to better understand which phases of the project have been completed, which tasks are currently in progress, and which phases are to be completed.

Expectations and timelines: The roadmap helps set realistic expectations for project timelines. The client sees a clear timeline and can adequately plan their activities and resources around that timeline.

Trust and Confidence: Providing the client with a clear roadmap helps build trust. The client sees that the project is being managed systematically and professionally, which increases confidence in the successful completion of the project.

Overall, the roadmap is a tool that promotes open and productive communication between the project team and the client, which is important for successful project delivery.

[You can see an example of our roadmap for most projects in the carousel]

05/01/2024

Lighting Method/Global Illumination (GI):
Cinema: Utilizes a couple effective Global Illumination method, and they work well.
UE: Offers multiple Global Illumination methods, but selecting one may negate the benefits of another.

Drawing Distance
Cinema: Objects retain quality regardless of distance.
UE: Objects deteriorate with distance, requiring you to find console commands to correct this.

Creating Atmosphere/Sun/Clouds
Cinema: Sun looks bad, no clouds, and no atmosphere. It takes a long time to render, and you have to use HDRI.
UE: Allows you to flexibly customize the sun, create realistic clouds and atmosphere, also add weather phenomena (snow, rain, fog) and customize them. [Rendering is fast enough].

Deformers/Smoke/Collision(Interaction Between Objects)
Cinema: All these features are present, enabling object parameter changes, like making objects soft or simulating gravity-induced falls. Flames can be created following desired trajectories.
UE: Lacks these features, but external software can create it and than import them into UE.

Assets
Cinema: Requires searching for models on the web and further texture mapping for each object.
UE: UE5 Marketplace offers many models, although they take up a significant amount of space on your computer.

Blueprints (Specifically PCGs)
Cinema: Limited to object cloning.
UE: Allows location creation through program code without adding objects, simplifying large location creation.

A significant advantage of UE is the rendering of the scene using Path Tracing.

This highly photorealistic rendering method overcomes the problems associated with other lighting (GI) methods discussed earlier. However, using Path Tracing we will not see customizable clouds, smoke, atmosphere and other important elements. Deciding on the choice of rendering method (using Path Tracing or any other alternative lighting method) early on is crucial depending on the task.

[In addition, Path Tracing has a significantly longer rendering time, like Redshift].

The conclusion at the end of the carousel🖤
