On This Day on June 24, 2014, Sri Lanka won their first series victory in England at Leeds. Sri Lanka won a Test match by 100 runs, and a series, with a ball to spare.

Shaminda Eranga bowled the last over of the day and with a ball to spare Eranga dismissed James Anderson and give Sri Lanka a first series victory in England.

England won the toss and elected to field. Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews became the Player of the match by scoring 160 runs in 2nd Innings.

Mathews became the Player of The Series along with James Anderson. Mathews took 4 wickets in the 1st Innings and Dhammika Prasad took 5 wickets in the 2nd Innings.

Liam Plunkett took his maiden five-wicket haul in Tests and his overall match figures of 176/9 were his best in Test cricket. In his second test, Moeen Ali scored his maiden century in Tests.

Sri Lanka not only won the Test series, but also the winning T20 and one-day series on the tour.

~ 1997, Sanath Jayasuriya made 151 runs in the Pepsi Cup ~

On this day on May 17, 1997, Sanath Jayasuriya scored 151 runs not out of 120 balls, against India in the Pepsi Cup match in Mumbai.

An innings that included 17 fours and 4 sixes. At the time it was the highest ODI score by a Sri Lankan.

The previous record was Aravinda De Silva's 145 runs against Kenya. Jayasuriya bettered that with 189, also against India, in Sharjah in 2000-01.

India scored 225 runs and Sri Lanka 229 runs and won by 5 wickets with 55 balls remaining. Sanath Jayasuriya became the Man of The Match.

Sri Lanka won the tournament, which defeated Pakistan in the best-of-three finals.
