Day 5.
BACKGROUND:
6 Coloradoans have brought a petition seeking to have the Court direct Colorado's Secretary Of State to remove Trump from the ballot for the 2024 election. They allege that the U.S. Constitution Am. 14, Section 3 bars any person who "engaged in insurrection" from holding office as President of the United States. They further claim, that Trump's role in the siege of the Capitol on January 6, qualifies as "engaging in insurrection" and disqualifies him from running for office.
STATUS UPDATE:
On the second day of Defense's case, the focus was on the peaceful nature of the Jan 8 rally for the overwhelming majority of attendees. In an effort to dissuade the Court from vesting too much faith in the Jan 6 Committee Report, Rep. Ken Buck testified about the unusually heavy partisanship of the Committee in both its formation and final product.
EXPECTATIONS FOR UPCOMING WITNESSES:
Today is supposed to be short. We anticipate hearing from only one expert witness "Delhunty" for the Defense before we close for the weekend. Next week, we may hear testimony from one more expert "Heefy" before closing arguments are made.
SIGNIFICANCE OF TRIAL:
This case could have global implications for the 2024 election. Don't watch it alone. Grab your popcorn and watch trial attorneys reacting in real time to testimony, mistakes and sound strategies from both sides and assessing the judge's work as well.
