FOREIGNERS DENIED ENTRY TO CLINIC

Cosmo City, Johannesburg - A growing concern for non-South African residents in the city has arisen as a vigilante group continues to deny entry to a public clinic in the area.

This group, which calls itself activists, has taken over the job of security personnel at the multi-purpose facility of Cosmo City and is denying access to those without South African identity documents.

According to reports, this has been happening for over two weeks and is causing difficulties for those in need of medical care. The clinic in question is one of the few health centers in the city where non-South Africans are being turned away. This is a violation of human rights as public services, including healthcare, should be accessible to all regardless of their nationality.

One resident, who was denied entry to the clinic to admit her sick baby, stated that she has been trying to access the clinic repeatedly but to no avail. “I keep coming back because my son is sick and I cannot afford private health services,” she said. “You cannot negotiate anything with them, all they want is a South African Identity card or book.”

Social media posts have started circulating warning foreigners not to bother going to this facility and others due to the presence of the vigilante group. This lack of intervention from the relevant offices is causing harm to those in need of medical attention and is a clear violation of human rights.

This issue is not limited to public healthcare services as another organization, Operation Dudula, is threatening to camp outside schools and chase out foreign national students in favor of placing the locals.

TRUCK CRASHES INTO CLASSROOM

A truck carrying bring trucks into a classroom and injured 15 learners on Wednesday, 18 January 2023.

The incident happened at Blue Eagle High School situated on the corner of Tanzania and Liberia Streets in Extension 2 while learning was taking place.

COSMO SUN understands that the truck drove through the palisade fence and was stopped by the wall of the classroom.

Two (2) learners were taken to the nearby hospital for medical attention. Fifteen pupils aged between 14 and 18 suffered injuries ranging from minor to moderate,

“A truck loaded with bricks drove into a mobile classroom at Blue Eagle Secondary School in Cosmo City. Our information reveals that there were no serious injuries except two pupils who were rushed to hospital,” confirmed Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona.

“Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 continuously until further notice,” said Eskom in a statement on Friday.

The power utility says that this is due to breakdown of six (6) generating units at five (5) power stations and the need to conserve emergency generation reserves.

CURRO COSMO CITY FOOTBALL STARS TO BE PART OF PITSO MOSIMANE PROGRAM

From January 2023, budding football stars at Curro Meridian Cosmo City in Roodepoort and Curro Northern Academy in Polokwane will acquire invaluable knowledge and perfect their skills, and discipline, as part of the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools (PMSS) programme.

The illustrious former coach of the Egyptian Giants, Al Ahly S.C. launched his coveted training programme earlier this year in a bid to help boost the quality and ability of South Africa’s football talent, which has experienced a decline in FIFA ranking – dropping from 20th in 2000 to 68th in 2022.

“At Curro, we are always striving to complement our world-class academic curriculum with a diverse range of sports, culture and other extracurricular activities of an equally high standard. Working with PMSS will add immeasurable value to our offering, giving our learners the unique opportunity of learning from Coach Pitso Mosimane, a true South African hero. He has dedicated his life to sharing his experience with the youth and his coaching recipe is a blueprint for success,” says Fergus Sampson, Business Executive for Meridian Schools at Curro Holdings.

The programme aims to guide young African players between the ages of 6 and 18 to become technically, intellectually, and socially equipped to succeed in the competitive world of professional football.

“Few people realise that to be a well-rounded football player, you need to have been equipped with the correct foundation at an early age. To foster future talents, we need to train the learners consistently and with the appropriate training programme for their age and skill-set. Curro’s football vision strongly aligns with this. I am beyond excited to be working with the school to further develop global best practices and training techniques,” says Mosimane.

By working with PMSS, Curro hopes to continue enhancing their sporting successes. The independent school group has already agreed to comply with the high standards prescribed by PMSS and has outlined ambitious plans to upgrade its football fields, purchase training equipment and renovate its boarding facilities in order to accommodate a professional football academy.

Despite being based in the Middle East, Mosimane has a team of talented federation-accredited football coaches administering the programme. The two schools currently selected for the PMSS partnership will serve as pilot sites, with the programme expected to be scaled to other Curro schools across the country in due course.
