India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, the air force said. The reason for the crash was not immediately known.

Gen Rawat was India's first chief of defence staff, a position that the government established in 2019, and was seen as close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 63-year-old was travelling with his wife and other senior officers in the Russian-made Mi-17 chopper, which crashed near its destination in Tamil Nadu.

According to a statement released by the military's media affairs department on Monday, two pilots embraced martyrdom after a Pakistan Army aviation helicopter crashed at Siachen in Gilgit-(GB) Baltistan's Ghanche region.

Major Irfan Bercha and Major Raja Zeeshan Jahanzeb were the martyred pilots, according to the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), who also announced that search and rescue helicopters and army forces had arrived at the crash site.

The ISPR did not provide an explanation for the mishap.

Separately, GB Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan released a statement in which he expressed his sorrow over the occurrence and expressed his condolences to the families of the slain pilots.

A magnificent 14-storey cruise ship will now be sold in junk as there is not enough space to park the beautiful and comfortable cruise at the country's biggest port in Karachi, Geo News reported Sunday.

The cruise's new owner from New Choice Enterprises, Ahmadullah Khan, said he made efforts for the ship to provide recreation as he planned to turn it into a hotel or cruise to promote tourism.

Originally, he purchased the ship to be dismantled in Pakistan, however, when he saw the ship in perfect shape, he changed his mind and thought of turning it into a tourist attraction.

However, he said, he contacted the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) and other authorities, but no place could be allocated for the cruise ship in the largest port of the country.

Hence, the ship, Celestyal Experience, formerly known as Costa Romantica, has been taken to the Gadani ship-breaking yard to be dismantled.

The Taliban said on Friday that they will prohibit women from being forced into marriage in Afghanistan, a decision that appears to be in response to criteria that the international community views as a bar for acknowledging their administration and returning aid to the war-torn country.

Hibatullah Akhunzada, a theologian chosen as the Taliban's ultimate leader and believed to be hiding in the southern city of Kandahar, made the announcement.

It comes as Afghanistan's poverty levels are rising in the aftermath of the Taliban's takeover in August and the exit of US and Nato soldiers. Foreign countries have withheld funds that had been a lifeline for the economy since then.

Yesterday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) suffered strong selling pressure, with the benchmark KSE-100 index dropping more than 2,000 points.

Soon after starting at 45,369.14 points, the market continued to fall, with the benchmark KSE-100 index down 2,005 points, or 4.42 percent, by 1:30pm. Trading in all securities is paused for a specific duration if the index moves 5% above or below its latest close and stays there for five minutes, according to the PSX Rulebook.

The benchmark index ended the day at 43,234.15, down 2,134.99 points, or 4.71 percent, from its previous closing.

Twitter launched new rules Tuesday blocking users from sharing private images of other people without their consent, in a tightening of the network´s policy just a day after it changed CEOs.

Under the new rules, people who are not public figures can ask Twitter to take down pictures or videos of them that they report were posted without permission.

Twitter said this policy does not apply to "public figures or individuals when media and accompanying tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse."

According to authorities, an unemployed young man committed su***de on Tuesday by jumping from the third storey of Karachi's Lucky One Mall.
The victim, Zuhair Asim, suffered critical injuries after he leapt from the third storey of the shopping centre, according to FB Industrial Area Station House Officer (SHO) Jamil Abbasi.
"He was pronounced dead at a private hospital in Karachi's Gulshan-i-Iqbal district," he said. Unemployment, according to the police, was a likely factor in the su***de.
The body was taken by the victim's relatives, who told detectives they did not wish to pursue legal action.

NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), the world’s first full-scale mission to test technology for defending Earth against potential asteroid or comet hazards, launched Wednesday on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Base in California.

Just one part of NASA’s larger planetary defense strategy, DART – built and managed by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland – will impact a known asteroid that is not a threat to Earth. Its goal is to slightly change the asteroid’s motion in a way that can be accurately measured using ground-based telescopes.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Sunday that it is still unclear if the new Omicron coronavirus variation is more contagious or produces more severe disease than earlier SARS-CoV-2 variants.

"Preliminary data shows that emergency department visits in South Africa are rising, although this might be due to an increase in the general number of persons being infected, rather than a specific Omicron illness," it stated.

However, the CDC highlighted in a statement that preliminary research indicated the variation may pose a greater risk of reinfection.

"At this time, there is no evidence that symptoms related with Omicron are distinct from those associated with other variations," the WHO stated.

On November 19th, Yara Birkeland departed for a crewed maiden voyage—which included Norway’s prime minister—on a short 43-mile trip across the fjord from Horton to Oslo.

Onboard the 262-foot (80 meter) vessel is a 6.8 megawatt-hours battery pack that can generate 17 mph (28 kph). It can carry 3,200 tons of fertilizer, and should begin commercial operations next year while it carries out lengthy certification for its autonomous navigation technology.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Senator Dr. Sania Nishtar said, "Based on recent field trips to 24 small towns, we have launched 8171 SMS service to facilitate registration of deserving families who have access to internet. Limited or no access."

Under the ongoing Ehsaas Rashan Registration Campaign, Senator Dr. Sania Nishtar along with Ehsaas and NBP teams visited 24 small towns and cities of Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Nowshera, Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan. Provide awareness and feedback to grocery shopkeepers, trade associations, district administration, local media and the public on the Ehsaas Ration Program.

Families earning less than Rs.50,000 per month can register themselves under the Ehsaas Ration Program. Only one member of the applicant's family whose cell number has been issued on his / her personal computerized national identity card (CNIC) can register his / her family through 8171 SMS service or web portal. For registration through 8171, the said family member can send an SMS to their CNIC number 8171. Grocery retailers will be able to register only through the web portal: https://ehsaasrashan.pass.gov.pk/.
The federal cabinet has also approved that eligible families of foreign travelers and government employees earning less than Rs.31,500 can also avail the benefit of ration.

The National Database and Registration Authority’s (Nadra) biometric data has been hacked.

The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing revealed on Thursday that the biometric data with Nadra was compromised while fake SIMs are being exported. The FIA Cybercrime Wing Additional Director Tariq Pervez revealed this during a briefing to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication. He said, “Nadra’s data has been compromised, it has been hacked”.

The FIA official informed the NA body that 13,000 fake SIMs were detained during a crackdown in Faisalabad. He shared that the number of cybercrime complaints registered with the wing had reached 89,000 so far and that there is a shortage of staff needed to address the complaints reported on a daily basis.

This step is being considered as a key factor in eradicating all the obstacles to the current manual system and will assist overseas Pakistanis in processing their online applications conveniently via an updated system.

A microchip with all the biometric information of an individual, such as pictures, fingerprints, and other relevant information, will be embedded in each e-passport to facilitate the authentication of the identity of travelers. Biometric documents will speed up the identification process, simplifying passport control, and paving the way for the automation of services.

Pakistan's Cabinet approved Indian arch-rival India's use of its land route to carry wheat supplies to Afghanistan, where millions of civilians are facing starvation as a harsh winter approaches.
Islamabad would also send relief, including 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat, the prime minister's office said in a statement, matching the amount sent by India.

"We have approved the passage to this 50,000 tonnes of wheat that India wants to deliver to Afghanistan," Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary said following the Cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
"We believe that the people of Afghanistan should be aided in whatever way possible," he stated.
The announcement has elicited no response from New Delhi.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has restored the services of TikTok on assurances of the platform to control immoral and indecent content.

Following the imposition of the video platform ban on July 20, 2021, the PTA remained in communications with the management of the social media app. As a result of continuous engagement, senior management of the platform assured the PTA of its commitment to take necessary measures to control unlawful content in accordance with local laws and societal norms, said a news release issued by the PTA here on Friday.

The TikTok management also assured that the users who are continuously involved in uploading unlawful content will be blocked from using the platform.

"We will support Chinese businesses in Pakistan on a priority basis," Prime Minister said during a conference with the Chinese delegation led by Chen Yan of Challenge Fashion (Pvt) Ltd. "We are grateful to them for their keen interest in accelerating their investment in special economic zones."

Chinese businessmen were ready to begin operations in the glass, ceramics, and information technology sectors, according to the prime minister.
