LOYALTY IN SERVICE, COMMITMENT TO VISION, KEY TO HIGHER REWARD –EJIOGU

Against the backdrop of political bickering, in-fighting amongst members of different political parties within the rank and file, loyalty in service delivery, commitment to sincere and unshaken pursuit to realize the vision of a vision bearer remain the key indices for a solid foundation for higher and better reward now and in the future, Sir Ejiogu has said. All Progressives Ground Alliance (APGA) candidate in the November 11th gubernatorial election in Imo, Sir Tony Ejiogu stated this in a thanksgiving / reception ceremony organized in his honour at the popular Obilimba Palace, Uratta, in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State by Bar. Canice Manukaji (Obilimba).Bar. Manukaji who was the APGA Imo House of Assembly candidate in the last general election thereafter stood by his party in firm support for his party’s gubernatorial candidate during the campaigns. According to him, it is an uncommon experience to have a rare breed in the mould of Bar. Manukaji to have so selflessly been up and doing, thinking even outside the box in full dedication and guided focus to inject vibrancy in the entire political campaign process that there was nothing left to be required in the campaign effort. In his absence, he said, he found Bar. Manukaji leaving no gap in any manner of initiative to keep the campaign machinery flowing in tandem with his heart beat. Sir Ejiogu said to Bar. Manukaji before his people, “You have shown me you are a quintessential gentle man… You are a very humble gentleman… To Uratta people, your son is simply ‘not to be compared to any other’. His loyalty is unbeatable. He can take a bullet for some one. Since my return to Nigeria, I have not seen anybody like Obilimba … On Saturday we will have the election. No matter how it goes, we have had an inseparable bond and understanding. I will show you that we are not joking. What God has written is written… God has a hand in how I emerge” as APGA candidate, he stressed. He explained why he is in the race for Douglas House. According to him, he remains a quality candidate based on: character, capacity, pedigree, competence in terms of education, exposure, understanding to do the job, youth (age advantage). “In all considerations, I am the best of the candidates,” he declared. Sir Ejiogu said, if elected into power there are a lot of things to do to better the state. As the highest voting block in Owerri North L.G.A, he appealed to the Uratta electorate, nay! Owerri North, to give him support in order to win. Once again, he assured of running a transparent, accountable and responsive administration, empower the people as well as stop the prevailing evils ongoing in the State by setting up a team that will touch lives, better humanity and speak for the voiceless in society. He therefore urged his APGA party men to work collectively to ensure victory and essentially, shun anti-party activities capable of bringing the party down. Earlier, the Deputy Governorship candidate, Sir Chris Ejike Uche (Dimkpa Asaa) had described APGA as having its strong hold in the South East especially in Imo. He described Obilimba as an Uratta son who knows the way urging the people to follow him as well as Sir Ejiogu, a true son of Owerri North. Similarly on his part, the party Chairman, Hon. Chief John Iwuala described the prevailing times as very special indeed, especially in Imo, because, as he put it, the entire state has accepted APGA gubernatorial candidate as the Imo electorate from the three zones will elect him their Governor come 11th November, 2023, he concluded.

*Is This Still Democracy? Tony Ejiogu Condemns Attack On NLC President Joe Ajaero*

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the 2023 Imo state governorship election, Sir Tony Ejiogu, has expressed sadness over the brutal attack on the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Mr Joe Ajaero in Owerri, the state capital.

The NLC president was in Owerri on Wednesday, November 1, to mobilize Imo workers for a protest rally in the state over an alleged violation and abuse of rights and privileges of workers by the state government, but the planned peaceful protest turned violent with allegations that thugs emerged and descended on the protesters and labour leaders.

In a statement on Thursday November 2, Sir Tony Ejiogu described as a huge embarrassment to the highly cultured and peace-loving people of Imo state, the news that a man of Joe Ajaero’s status would be so treated in his own state where he should be lovingly welcomed.

“Regardless of the sentiment that the perpetrators of this act might express, there is no moral or legal justification for violence against a fellow citizen. There should be no place for violence in the Imo state that we all want to live in and prosper“

“How did we get here as Imolites? When did we become a state where leaders and elders are being disrespected, beaten up and disgraced while our children are watching? When did we become a state that has no respect for the leadership of the working population of our nation?”, he said.

The NLC stated that Mr Ajaero was arrested, “beaten up and blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles”. Images of a badly battered Ajaero later emerged on the internet to the shock of many Nigerians.

While there are divergent reports about the circumstances around the attack on Comrade Joe Ajaero and how he was whisked away by men of the Police, Sir Ejiogu wants the police to ensure that the perpetrators of this “shameful act” are brought to book.

“While the police have been providing the public with their details of this sad event, please permit me to state that an issue like this should not end on the pages of newspapers and social media, because our state and the police leadership will be on the wrong side of history”

“This is not just a crime against Ajaero’s person, but against Nigerian workers, our state and humanity. I appeal to the Imo State Police Command to ensure thorough investigation of this shameful act, so that its perpetrators are exposed, charged and made to face the consequences of their crime”

The APGA candidate then appealed to the people of the state not to lose hope in the future of Imo state.

“Do not be discouraged by these events. Rather, let them inspire you to troop out on November 11 and use your votes to choose a new future for our state. Vote for a new leadership that has genuine respect for human lives and places the security of the state as its top priority”

..APGA Poised to Reclaim Imo - Soludo

As the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA intensifies efforts ahead of the Imo Governorship election, the party’s national leader and Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo has assured supporters that the party is certain to emerge victorious in the State in November.

Professor Soludo made the remark while receiving Sir Tony Ejiogu, the APGA Governorship candidate in Imo State, at the Anambra State Government House in Awka recently.

"You'll agree with me that Imo State has been a stronghold of APGA. Most of our founding fathers are also from the State. Imo is APGA, and APGA is Imo. We have been through trials and tribulations in the past, yet we remained strong as a party. It's time to reclaim back Imo through our persistence and consistency,” Soludo stated.

He added: "APGA is the first Party to be registered with the word “progressives” in its name. Others see other parties as a political platform to win elections but in APGA, we believe in true federalism with a mandate, core value, framework and structure to move the nation forward.”

He expressed optimism in the victory of APGA in Imo State while noting that the herculean task of defeating an incumbent is achievable as evidenced by the massive support the party has enjoyed in the past in Imo where it won elections.

He added that with the forthcoming Guber election, APGA has shown and demonstrated its commitment to the development and progress of Imo State through a credible candidate, Sir Tony Ejiogu and urged the electorate to come out en masse and support the party.

Professor Soludo who also received other Governorship candidates of the party, including Idoko Kingsley Ilonah from Kogi and Hon. Subiri Waibodei from Bayelsa State reiterated that APGA remains the only party in Nigeria that has shown empathy, passion, and genuine interest in improving the life of the citizens.

Also speaking, APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Sylvester Ezeokenwa, said the party was in high hopes to retrieve its mandate in Imo while noting that there have been remarkable differences in APGA in the State, as it fielded a transparent candidate who has become a model for future candidates, whose qualifications is not shielded in secrecy.

“Remain steadfast to the tenets of the party, your coming onboard has brought high expectations. You'll champion a new Imo. Looking at you, I see a glorious day in Imo. God will strengthen you".

On his part, Sir Tony Ejiogu thanked the party’s leadership for creating the enabling environment to ensure that those with proven track records can take part in governance, and promised not to betray the trust; while also soliciting the support of the party hierarchy to succeed in his quest to emerge victorious in Imo State.

*Money And Muscle Politics In Imo State -Why A Paradigm Shift Is Long Overdue*

For what it’s worth, political leadership, in its purest form, is about attaining political power and leveraging on it to influence decisions that bring about human development, and improvement in the quality of lives of those under our jurisdiction. But ironically, our political landscape has repeatedly been plagued by transactional politics where politicians try to recoup as much as possible from public coffers, while the society that was entrusted to them for safekeeping is allowed to deteriorate.

But what is most regrettable and worrisome is that we have created a society where such a menace is allowed to thrive. We have bastardized our political culture to the point that it has become attractive to political merchants whose only aim is to prey on our collective resources. People who lack leadership capacity and moral decency are now dominating our political space due to the fact that we have created a society where no one pays attention to ideologies; a society where there are no issue-based dimensions along which political discussions are based; a society where political parties are structured without any vision. Thus, there are no qualification requirements for prospective candidates. And when indicators of credibility are not used as a litmus test for candidates, there is now room for opportunists to ruthlessly take advantage. It’s so sad that relevant experience, antecedents and credentials are no longer a determinant for both political parties and the electorates to decide who is most suitable to run for a political office. Rather, it is now about who can outwit the other candidates through vote buying and compromising the electoral process. This new culture and trend have produced dealers at the expense of leaders—dealers who are mostly characterized by greed, ineptitude, and insensitivity.

Owing to this sociopolitical situation we have created, people with questionable character are now on the political spotlight. And their primary aim is simply to obtain the absolute immunity associated with power, and also to enjoy the ample financial reward and unrestricted privileges associated with holding such political positions. No wonder poor leadership has persisted. Political vulgarity has become our reality. Hypocrisy has taken over our political atmosphere. Corruption is now a celebrated culture that has eaten so deep into the fabrics of our core values.

Our state now creates leaders who are demigods rather than public servants, and the desperation to grab power by all means has heightened. These political positions have been made a safe haven for the demigods to unleash their insatiable greed, unquantifiable looting, negligence towards the plight of the masses, intimidation, falsehood, and abuse of power.

This mediocre and retrogressive politics has persisted because we have allowed it to thrive by not making enough inquiries to ascertain who an aspirant really is and what he has to offer; by giving room to mediocrity instead of meritocracy; by looking for a candidate that would buy our acceptance with money instead of the one that has a long-term plan for effective leadership. Sadly, we are now majoring in the minor and minoring in the major.

And it might get even worse if we fail to wake up from our slumber. We as imolites must take drastic measures to ensure that our retrogressive society becomes progressive. We must rebuild our value system to accommodate only leaders with proven integrity and antecedents.

But are we eady to do the needful in order to halt this rot? I ask this because we are in yet another election season in Imo State, and the nontransparent process that produces candidates, coupled with heavy financial inducements, has persisted. In fact, it took a more dangerous twist. How can candidates whom the processes that produced them as flag bearers remain shrouded in controversies promise us a transparent government? Are we seeing people who are willing to serve or people who want to do a show of money and muscle in a bid to see who outwits the other in getting the keys to our state Treasury?

But in all, the situation is not entirely hopeless. For while most Frontline political parties were locked in chaos, one major political party—the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) which has remained the pride of the east—stood out amongst equals. They quietly conducted one of the most transparent, peaceful and rancor- free primaries ever seen in Imo State, and produced a dynamic and vibrant technocrat in the person of Mr Anthony Ejiogu. And while some other candidates are still busy with litigations arising from their shady primaries, the young visionary is steadily penetrating the nooks and crannies of the state with his personality and ideologies. I am not suggesting to Imo people whom to follow, but I am urging them to pay more attention to what Tony Ejiogu and APGA are bringing to the table, especially with their campaign flag off imminent, and they won’t find it difficult to want to key in.

The future of our dear state, that of our children and the generation yet unborn, is at stake, and if we don’t pay attention to tiny details, we will forever be condemned by guilt for the role we played in abusing our own society.

We might have lost a huge chunk of yesterday and today, but we can’t afford to lose tomorrow. Politics shouldn’t be a platform for unsavoury characters to take cover and unleash destructive tendencies. Voters in a democratic system must seek information on the quality of candidates if they are to hold their political representatives accountable to a certain standard. The time to usher in an exciting new era is now.

Guber Poll: Ejiogu reveals 7-point Rebuild Agenda for Imo

The Imo Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the November Governorship election, Sir Tony Ejiogu, flagged off his campaign recently.

In a riveting speech before his supporters, he laid out his agenda to rebuild the state and restore the glory of the eastern heartland.

Below are the 7 takeaways from that speech which highlighted his “Rebuilding Imo Agenda”.

1. Curb Insecurity By 75% In 2 Years

According to Sir Tony Ejiogu, his first charge in the rebuilding agenda “is to make our communities liveable again”.

Lamenting the state of insecurity in the State, he recalled that from August 2020 to July 2023, Imo state experienced 209 violent attacks with no fewer than 289 people losing their lives to those attacks, while about 100 people have been kidnapped and mostly unaccounted for subsequently.

He said, “My priority is to restore security to our dear state so that we may once again enjoy the simple pleasures of life and feel safe while at it.”

2. Uproot Poverty, Boost IGR By 50% In 36 Months.

Tony Ejiogu also promised to take a multi-pronged approach to poverty alleviation in the State.

The first is by creating a conducive environment for private enterprises to thrive and become the engine of growth for the economy through job creation. This particular measure, he said, is capable of driving up the State’s internally generated revenue by over 50% within 36 months of his government.

The second is by creating a knowledge-based economy where Imo youths inclined in the IT sector will be empowered with the right skill set and exposed to the global tech and digital marketplace for foreign exchange earnings.

He also promised that his support will support all those who choose trade and other forms of entrepreneurship shall be supported in their various businesses with soft loans and entrepreneurial mentorship.

3. Implement One-Community-One-Product (OCOP) Initiative for Exports.

This is arguably one of Tony Ejiogu’s most ambitious ideas for the development of the State’s agric sector. According to Ejiogu, this plan is amongst other agro-based interventions that will feature prominently in his government, and will entail “a one-community-one-product (OCOP) initiative to develop specialty products from communities based on existing comparative advantage.”

The overarching objective, according to Ejiogu, is to “make food abundant again, by making it safe for farmers to return to their farmlands, harnessing our agricultural potential fully and making the right investments so that our people can have more than enough to eat”.

4. Raise Minimum Wage to N80,000/Month

Improving worker’s welfare is also top on Ejiogu’s priority.

He told his supporters during the flag-off that one of his visions is to create an Imo “where the minimum wage of an average worker shall be a livable wage of at least N80,000 monthly and our civil service retirement age is officially pegged at 65 years with pensions and gratuities paid as and when due.”

5. Complete Autonomy for Local Governments

Ejiogu also pledged his commitment to devolution of powers, as he has promised to conduct free, fair and credible local government elections and allow them complete financial and operational independence.

He maintained that a part of his vision is to build a new Imo where the third tier government shall indeed exist with complete financial and operational independence, and the culture of impunity, corruption and recklessness shall be dethroned.

6. Promote Good Governance Through Partnership, Accountability, Responsibility and Trust

To promote good governance in the state, Ejiogu said his government shall be a reflection of his lifestyle of modesty and accessibility.

He said, “just like your next-door neighbour, I will operate an open-door policy to make myself available to you. Our commitment to good governance starts with having listening ears to the people we lead because this is how we can journey together and reach the promised land”.

Calling on the people for their support, he said “all hands must be on deck in this PART to rebuild Imo.

And By PART, I mean, joining hands in Partnership, Accountability, Responsibility and Trust. Do your PART to rebuild Imo, I will do MINE”.

7. Prioritise Competitive Academic Curriculum, Retraining of Teachers

According to Ejiogu’s agenda, improving education will be a top priority as he will adopt a unique approach that will see the State refocusing its education objectives on retooling the citizens of the State to be a part of the global economy.

This, he said, forms part of his vision for the new Imo where “competitive academic curriculum shall focus on building students to be self-sustaining, and teachers properly trained to contemporary teaching methodology”.

IMO 2023: APGA WILL RECLAIM IT'S POSITION OF PROMINENCE IN IMO STATE POLITICS

If not for what is perceived as a sellout by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in 2011, the political landscape of Imo State might have taken a different course for good and the betterment of the State and Electorates.

Despite the setback, there is a prevailing belief that history can be rewritten, and the November 11 2023 Imo State Governorship election holds the promise of a resurgence for APGA, potentially leading to its emergence as the party of choice by Imolites

Despite this setback, proponents of APGA remain optimistic about the party's future prospects in Imo State. The upcoming November 11 election is as an opportunity to rewrite history.

The sentiment is that Imo electorate's desire for accountable and transparent governance aligns with APGA's core principles. The party's resilience and determination to recapture its original vision have garnered support from those who believe in its potential to lead the state effectively.

The parallels drawn between the historical context and the present election emphasize the cyclical nature of politics. Just as the sellout altered the course of Imo State politics, the November 11 election has the potential to reshape the state's political landscape.

Tony Chidiebere Ejiogu progressive agenda, proven track record, commitment to development, and dedication to good governance make him the optimal choice for the governorship of Imo State. His holistic approach to addressing the needs of the Imo people, coupled with his experience in leadership, positions his as a strong contender capable of ushering in a new era of true prosperity and progress for the Imo State.

"My 5 point agenda are the things that will extinguish the fire in Imo state and bring back a working government where everything a government should do will be executed seamlessly with prudence and honesty. It will be a new dawn. The giant before us can be defeated; the fire can be extinguished, it can but it requires all hands on deck."~ Tony Ejiogu

Dear Imolites, let’s change for a better version by making different choices and doing things differently

Nov.11th Guber Election : Ejiogu Pledges Commitment To Workers’ Welfare, To Pay N80K Minimum Wage

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in the November Imo Governorship election, Sir Tony Ejiogu has pledged to improve the welfare of Imo workers by increasing the minimum wage to at least 80,000 naira per month while settling pensions and gratuities as and when due.

Ejiogu made this pledge while delivering a speech at the flag-off of his campaign on Thursday in Owerri, Imo State capital, where he also promised to rebuild Imo by tackling insecurity and reviving the economy of the State.

In an emotion-laden stump speech, Ejiogu who went down memory lane and bemoaned the lost glory of the State, said Imo has moved from the Eastern heartland to become the Eastern wasteland over the past three years and promised to tackle the security menace through a potpourri of measures including strengthening law enforcement, and investing significantly in community engagement to identify conflict drivers.

He said it was time to remind Imo people, that “In spite of our past triumphs and legacies, this is a time of great tension between good and evil, progress and retrogression, and a time to choose whether to continue on the path of destruction or begin the process of rebuilding our dear Imo”.

From August 2020 to July 2023, our dear Imo state has experienced 209 violent attacks. No fewer than 289 people have lost their lives to those attacks, while about 100 people have been kidnapped and mostly unaccounted for subsequently.

These are not just numbers. They are our sons, daughters, fathers and mothers, cousins and uncles. Who among you today still sleeps with both eyes closed? Who among you today will invite your friends from across the Niger to Imo for your children’s traditional marriage ceremony? These simple gestures that define us are now being threatened by the forces of evil. My priority is to restore security to our dear state so that we may once again enjoy the simple pleasures of life and feel safe while at it,” Ejiogu said.

Ejiogu decried Imo’s unenviable status as the headquarters of youth unemployment in Nigeria. He, therefore vowed to implement strategic economic reforms and initiatives that will create the enabling environment for private enterprises to thrive and create much-needed jobs, thereby tackling poverty by its roots, while boosting internally generated revenue, IGR by 50% within three years.

The APGA flagbearer, whose candidacy is shaping up to be one of the strongest contenders in the race to the Imo government house in the November election, also promised to pay Imo workers a liveable minimum wage of at least 80,000 naira per month, while settling pension and gratuities as and when due.

Ejiogu also said his economic agenda will feature aggressive reforms of the agricultural sector to tackle food insecurity by harnessing the potential of the sector in the state through his “One-Community-One-Product (OCOP)” initiative, which will enable the state to develop specialty products from communities based on existing comparative advantage.

The former Seminarian said the time has come for all Imo people to shed their inhibitions, forget their differences and “choose to rebuild Imo by voting for the right leadership in the November Governorship election”.

He added, “My stewardship shall remain committed to a purposeful, people-centred, servant leadership that considers our people’s plight and incredible strength in delivering social justice, good governance, and engendering economic prosperity and protection for all. Ndi Imo deserves fresh ideas and initiatives that will set and propel our dear state on a trajectory of peace, growth and limitless prosperity.”

Ejiogu also pledged his commitment to full devolution of powers and the restoration of the local government system by conducting free, fair and credible local government elections upon assumption of office, and allowing them complete financial and operational independence.

*Ejiogu surprises associates with 'no rented crowd' principle*

APGA’s candidate in the forthcoming Imo state governorship election, Sir Tony Ejiogu, has reportedly told his political associates that he wants to run a campaign that will feature genuine supporters and true believers in his vision and not a crowd of rented praise singers.

According to one of the close aides of the Owerri-born politician, who pleaded anonymity, Ejiogu made this declaration during a meeting in the buildup to his campaign flag-off which holds on Thursday, August 31 at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Egbu, Owerri North LGA of Imo state.

According to the source, Tony Ejiogu insisted that his campaign flag-off is not a test of his popularity, nor is it a competition with the career politicians that he is contesting against. Rather, it is an event where he intends to share a vision with like minds regardless of social and economic status.

He further said that his emergence as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate without bribing or paying anyone is an indication that when the people are presented with a true heart with honest intentions, they will offer their support freely.

He argued that several politicians have lost elections in the past, despite the huge crowds at their campaign rallies, and their claims that the masses were with them. The logic is that campaign crowds are never proof of the people’s support and most times they do not translate into votes.

Since his emergence as APGA’s flag bearer, Tony Ejiogu’s popularity has been growing fast among young people in Imo state because he represents a departure from the political class that has ruled the state for many years.

“Our people deserve better than being used and dumped. I place a higher value on my people than trying to buy them to support me to become governor. What will be the future of our vision for a new Imo state if all I do is to repeat those same practices that got us where we are now?” he reportedly asked his associates.

Our source added that he had become more convinced that Tony Ejiogu’s candidacy and modesty will challenge the culture of monetized politics in Nigeria as it represents a model for how visionary leaders lead.
