A Visakhapatnam-based software solutions company, Fluentgrid ,in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (), has deployed technological solutions to fight the Covid threat in the city. Similar technologies have earlier been applied as part of the national Smart Cities Mission. The technology is currently being used in Lucknow and Vishakhapatnam.

Areas where the technology is being used include monitoring streets and public places for violations during the lockdown , guiding teams working on the field, directing field staff through a field responder mobile app to conduct surveys, tracing known suspects, monitoring people under quarantine and ensuring sanitation, collaborating with various to trace and isolate suspects and handling logistics.

Through the citizens’ mobile app, the technology helps to self-diagnose, self-quarantine, report suspects, report cases of black marketeering, report quarantine violators, provide telemedicine services to citizens, especially those in quarantine and alert citizens through public address systems and message displays.

News has it that Ganga waters at Rishikesh and Haridwar have become very clean according to the observation made by BD Joshi, Environmental Scientist and Ex-professor at the Gurukul Kangri University. According to Joshi, it is after a long time that Ganga water has become good for achaman (ritual sipping) in Haridwar. Joshi also added that the cause behind cleaner Ganga water is a 500 per cent decrease in total dissolved solid (TDS), industrial effluent, dharmashalas, sewage from hotels and lodges.

Apparently, this change has been ushered by the lack of human activities as no pilgrims have been visiting the twin holy towns of Haridwar and Rishikesh.

Odisha on Saturday installed a machine to ramp up state’s existing testing capacity from about 400 per day to 1000 samples a day as the government aims to bring even asymptomatic cases into the ambit of coronavirus testing. “With the installation of a Cobas 6800 machine, the second such machine in India, at least 600 additional samples can be tested using the PCR method, taking the total to more than 1000,” said Pandit.

Till Friday night, Odisha had tested 3547 samples while Maharashtra had tested 32051, the highest in the country.

Women and senior citizens have started receiving benefits of relief measures announced by the Modi government. Around 40 per cent (around 8 crore) of total 20 crore women beneficiaries of Jan Dhan Schemes have already received payment worth Rs 500 each. The Centre started crediting the first instalment of Rs 500 each to over 4 crore Jan Dhan accounts of poor women on April 3.
